Summer ROCKS and so do the Super Goofs!

Hello Goofs!

I've started a new thread to keep track of the rosters more easily. I expect interest in teams will start to pick up soon as the training to train and full-on training for the fall races start.

The link to this new thread is here, and it will include the rosters on the first post and monthly totals for all the teams on the second. Other posts will be for requests and new information.

Lisa, could you please send me an updated roster for your team? TIA! :goodvibes I did check your posts and have already taken Joann off your roster, so I hope I'm close to accurate.

Hey Goofs! Ran 5.50 miles this morning with only two one minute walking breaks. I'm almost back up to 6 miles again. I swear, I'm slower than I was before, though! After the Peachtree I need to work on my speed.

Man, it is hot today. :cool2:

Hey all, Happy "tonight the Wings win the Cup" day (Good thing Debra popped in before this post! Well--here's hoping.

Today-swimming. I appear to have developed what is commonly referred to as "swimmer's sinusitis". Apparently the chlorine in the pool aggravates my nasal passages and I am a sneezng, dripping, congested mess for about 24 hours after. I bought some nose clips and tried them today--came up gasping after two laps. Just felt like I was suffocating. So I'm going to try saline solution, before and after and see if that helps. All this to do the one activity I don't like all that much!

sk8ingmom Congrats on the tri. You sounded like you had a good time and a satisfying result. Yippee!

Steve I got pooped just reading about your race schedule. Hope it goes well. My DS is also doing a leg of a Relay for Life event that a member of his track team is organizing (well, as much as high schoolers can!)

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Maura

the sinusitis fixed Maura...that happens to me too, but I thought maybe I was developing hay fever! Let me know how the saline works for you.

I didn't get to buy a wetsuit yesterday, but I hope to get there today.

Got in 5.59 miles in 52 minutes.

Normally I despise the run, but today was sort of fun.

Laps were 10:38, 8:52, 9:52, 10:23, 9:31...we did the last .3 miles in 2:42, which should...if my math is right...be about a 8:50 pace for that lap, and a 9:30 pace overall

Kind of fun...but I just don't see how these guys run 5,6,7 minute miles!

Guess I'm built for neither speed or comfort!

Mike

Hey Goofs!

Quick run by: sounds like everyone is doing pretty darn good with work outs.

Last night I got in 5.5 miles on the bike, did T2 in garage then half mile run. Wanted further but I was starving and body refused to cooperate. Need to rethink my afternoon snack I think. Tonight is pool time. Nothing crazy with the tri this Sunday, just getting in some laps.

Have a great day!!

My friend and I tried to get in a run early this morning to beat the heat. It was already in the 70s and the humidity was 93% and we were both dragging. Bagged the run after a little more than 2.25 miles. I felt guilty since I had three on tap for today, so I did the final run on the TM, in the air conditioning, with the fan set on high.
So. Much. Better.
I'm at a loss as to how to handle running through the Alabama summer. I see many TM runs in my future.

Liz, what tri are you doing on Sunday?

I have a 35 mile ride for charity scheduled...does that count as double miles or time, neither, or both?

Morning Goofs! Ran 4 miles this morning. Went out earlier and it wasn't quite so bad heat wise.

Just scored some Miley Cyrus tickets for my daughters a few minutes ago. Good day! :thumbsup2

4 miles for me today.

Kim I do most of my runs indoors these days--even when training for the half it was 2-in, 1-out just from a schedule standpoint. I used to worry that it wasn't the same to do them indoors as out--and physically it is different, but it seems at some point miles are miles and the ones indoors must be working, since my races have been pretty decent.

Kim,

I know you can't exactly mimic outdoor running on a treadmill, but I've heard that if you put the treadmill at a 1% incline it's supposed to get you closer to replicating outdoor running...hope this helps.

Mike - Naper Women's Tri. As for the charity ride, when I did the ACS one Lisa said could double the miles since it was an organized event.

Noakes (et al.) actually have been saying that, unless you are clocking 6:30 miles or faster, it doesn't make any significant difference. You can put your treadmill on an incline if you wish, though I have noticed that constant running on an incline bothers my knees far more than a longer, faster run outside.

I got in late last night from a trip to Arizona and the Grand Canyon. We hiked down South Kaibab Trail to Cedar Point. Round trip it is only 3 miles, but it was a 3:30 hike which included a 45 minute rest at Cedar Point. Coming back out of the canyon was tough. The temperature wasn't bad, but the altitude was getting to me. I had fun and needed to take several rest breaks, but we got out on our own two feet. I would absolutely do it again too! Maybe even plan to hike down and camp for a night.

Yesterday, I got to hike at Camelback Mtn and Echo Canyon Rec Area in Phoenix before heading to the airport. It was only about 45 minutes. If I had planned better, maybe I would have gotten up early and we could have hiked the whole trail. I'll try to post some pictures later.

We also hiked a little in the red rocks in Sedona before heading back to Phoenix. I'll add numbers to the spreadsheet later. I'll add some pictures over on the main Wish page too!

Hey Goofs....

Warrior in the House!! I know, I know, you all are just flabergasted right??:lmao:

As prevously stated, Debra and I are trying to put together a more current WISH smaller teams thread. Keeping the teams members names current and getting people on a team that want to be.
Also on that thread is a post which I am doing that will show how all of the teams are doing.
So....... Please start a new thread each month (thank you for doing so!). On the first post please include the teams total Miles and Minutes. This will make it much easier on my part to look up each teams numbers. Please don't post a link to a spreadsheet. Lots of numbers to keep track of, so having it out there in plain sight makes it easier for me (and other teams to stop by and check it out)
And with that said.... I need the Goof's time and miles for each month starting with February. You can PM me or post it on that new thread that Debra started.

Thanks Super Goofs!!:thumbsup2

Happy early AM Goofs! I am now employed 40 hours a week and my DIS time will be limited from now on. I will check in with you as much as possible but the rest of the team is going to have to pull together and keep this rolling. I am in training for the next few weeks and will be pretty scarce.

Mike, any organized event that you compete or participate in is doubled. You all can double your times if you wish. I don't, I just double miles. Other teams do both and some just do the miles. Where this is not truly a competition, I don't think it really matters. But in answer to your question, yes, any bike, run, walk event that you participate in that is an organized event (even World Run Day or the Nike 10K thing in the fall) count as double.

As for the keeping of miles/minutes, team roster etcetera on the first post, I have been trying to keep up with that. Mike, maybe you can help me as you are usually the next one in line to post in the morning. Soon you will be first!! :woohoo: I am still going to keep the spreadsheet link in the first post as I cannot save the link on the hospital computer and it is helpful to me personally.

As for my running, I am back on track with my schedule. I am biking the miles on the days it is too yucky to run. This has been a lot lately. We have been really cold and now really rainy. Tonight is 4 miles and it may either be Leslie Sansone and I or the bike depending on the level of rainage.

So, take care Goofs, keep up the great work and if anyone wants to step up and captain for awhile, I will hand over the reins to this out of control wagon!! Seriously, I could use the help at least for the next few months!!!!!

Just back from my 4 miler. I know what you're talking about Kim. I'm in Georgia and it is hot. I've been trying to leave the house early, but it is still rough.

I have a new pain. This is something I've never had before. I guess it is a shin splint? I'll go read up on it today. My knee has been doing well, so I'm kinda bummed to have a new pain! :headache:

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I'll probably check back in on Sunday. :grouphug:

Congratulation on the 40 hour-week bump! I know it'll be a lot of work, and we'll miss you, but I'm assuming it's a good thing during this economic time. :woohoo:

VERY short flyby...i might go riding in an hour or so.

Nothing big on tap for the weekend, 2 hour run tomorrow, 35 mile charity ride on Sunday.

mike

Mike Hope the ride goes well on Sunday. 35 shouldn't be too bad.

Kim and Shan I don't know how you ladies do it. I just melt in the heat/humidity, So glad I do miles indoors--even then it gets a little warm for my liking!

Liz ROCK THAT TRI!!!!!!! (Is that a loud enough shout?)

Lisa Good luck with your new work schedule. We will do our best to stay motivated and productive while you are busy!

AFM....I "played hookie/hooky" (however it's spelled) today on my workout. I just decided I would do some weights. It was like a vacation. Usually, it is swim-bike-run (repeat in some order). Today I just said "nuts" and did what I wanted. Felt good to be bad.....
