Summer ROCKS and so do the Super Goofs!

I got in 7 miles in 63 minutes today...didn't feel like it, but that is pretty fast for me!

Hope everyone is having a great day/week...lets make it a great month!

Mike

Lisa: Good luck with the decision you have to make. I know what you mean....is it worth it? I had to work full time while Nancy was on leave, and it was hard on the family ((((and me!)))) There is still everything else to be done, but way less time to do it! I knew it was temporary, but still hard to get up everyday and stay motivated to get everything done! The money was good......and missed when it was over! But, many more headaches involved day to day.

But, on the positive side, my family did rise to the occassion and helped me out more than normal. My dh even did the laundry a couple of times! So, it wasn't all bad!

I hope whatever you decide to do works for you and the family!

Hi Goofs!

Well, I got my 5 miles in this morning even though I was achey from yesterdays miles. I didn't enjoy it though. Sometimes that happens.

Today is a busy day with all sorts of craziness happening. We leave for vacation tomorrow and boy do I need it. I love our beachhouse. Hopefully I will be able to get lots of miles in while I am there. I have 30 scheduled but I know that my sisters will talk me into "one more drink" at night and thats going to make those early morning runs tough to get in. Maybe I will be strong this year.......

Lisa - wow, nice to have such a tough decision to make in this economy. I know what you mean about it being a huge adjustment though. Good luck in figuring it all out.

Take care Goofs and have a great week!

Cecilia

Happy Friday Goofs!!

I got in 3.71 miles yesterday. I know, I know, why the .71 right. Well I was going 4 but there was a car that was passing me frequently and then up ahead of me, they pulled over and just sat there. It kind of freaked me out so I turned around and ran back home. Sissy girl. No running today except for running around like a chicken with my head cut off!

It is 8th grade prom night. I will try and post a picture for you all to see my roly poly chunky monkey baby girl in all her glory. She turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. DH used to ask me what I was feeding her to make her so fat. He doesn't say that anymore. I am sure there will be a tear in his eye tonight, especially when we drop her off with her "date" for the prom. Nervous little boy.

So here is my day, work at home 3 hours, drive 1 hour to the hospital, work 3 hours at the hospital, drive 1:15 back to the school to pick up DD14 and get her to hair and makeup, drive home, change my clothes, get the veggie tray and go to the pre-prom party, pictures, eating, take her to the prom, clean up from party and move to next location for the post-prom party, run in town and pick up some girly girls and transport to the after party, sit and have a beer around the bonfire. Well the last part sounds good anyway!!!

Have a super weekend everyone and tune in later for pictures!!

Cruddy week here. Between the 10-12 hour work days, kid activities, rain rain rain, and prepping for a 9yo backyard camp out birthday party tonight, I've been a total slug. Of course, the backyard campout is now a living room camp out - did I mention that it's been raining here?

DS10 and I are running a super sprint tri (250 meter/4.5 mile/1.4 mile) on Sunday. I have no doubt that he's going to beat me on the run!

Suzanne: The Mustang in Nashville was fun. I got my fix and moved on. I really appreciate my Jetta and the 50 MPG that it gets. I am sure you would have felt the same about the Mustang compared to the Corolla. Did I mention it was fun though??? :goodvibes

I love my Mustang. It makes me happy. I've had cars before that I liked, but never one that made me happy.

I loved my stangs, both of them. I had an 89 GT convertible and a 69 Mach 1 fastback. Guess which one I loved more...:lmao: Yesterday I drove by our local dealership and there was an electric blue Roush 2010 fastback calling my name. Why oh why do they need to do that to me...:sad2:

Morning Goofs!

Cecilia - have a great beach vacation!

Maura - yep, it is the Naper Womens tri. Keep hearing that is the best one to do as a first.

Went to the tri transition work shop last night. I feel SO much better about it! Instructor was great, other attendees friendly and it was fun. Did full run thru - bikes on racks, gear layed out, running into T1, getting into bike gear, out to mount line, ride (to end of parking lot/back), dismount at line, bike back on rack, change shoes, hat/race belt, out other side to "run". Good tips, too.

There were newbies and experienced people (only 8-9 of us). Instructor has done Ironman and is very friendly in addition to knowledgeable. So glad I went. Thinking of taking other workshops they offer as well.

Now only have the swim to panic about.

Have a great weekend!!

Got in 4.25 miles this morning at a nearby park. It was great cause DH was at work and my youngest at my parents' so it was just my older daughter and myself. We took her bike and she rode along beside me. We've never done that before. It was really nice. Hope everyone else is having a good weekend. :grouphug:

Lisa, how was the dance???

Yesterday: 87 miles in 5:15.

Today: 7 miles in 78 minutes...could have gone faster, but kept it slow.

Mikey's tired now...bed time soon!

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread.

What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?

How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Wake up, Goofs...it's Monday!

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. As usual, always too short! Yesterday I dragged my butt over to the gym and ran 4 miles. Today, it was 50 minutes on the bike.

Mike I don't know how you do it. The one thing about this tri training that I don't like is that even though I train 6 days a week (which is probably one more day than I'd like to do), I still feel like I'm not doing enough. Seems like if a person wants to get decent or good at triathlon, it involves way more training than I care to think about! I guess I'm just lazy.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Maura

Good morning Goofs. Trying to catch up!

Maura, I feel the same about marathon training. The miles did not bother me it was the time I had invested. I have told everyone that I need to learn to run faster and then it won't take so much time! :goodvibes

Mike, you rock as usual!

Shan, sounds like you are back on the road again. The dance was great. DD was a little put out as all her friends got onto a limo bus that we refused to pay $25 for but she got over it quickly. She looked very sweet with her date even though she would not allow pictures of them. I do have some pics of she and her friends. More to come. I have to get them off the camera first!

Everyone else, :grouphug:

We have lost Joanne (Groovygirls) from our group. She has moved on to greener pastures. Sad but true. :guilty: I am sure we will all miss her a lot. Best of luck to her in the future with her 2 beautiful girls and the boy named Seamus!

As for me, I got a 17 mile bike ride in yesterday. My Monday 5K is planned for later. Then DS7 has a baseball game this evening. His season is nearly over (except for All Star weekend). DD14 has her first summer 16-U practice Wednesday. This is DH and I :yay::yay: We love summer softball. DD is very excited to play with the high school girls that she loves so much. The intensity level is sure different from middle school softball. DD looks out of place with the middle schoolers. Most of the opposing teams don't know what to do with her. :confused3 She steals and steals and steals. Time to move on to the older girls who all play the same way.

I ate out too much this weekend and am paying for it with an extra 2 pounds this morning. Time to buckle down for bikini season....

Good morning goofs!

I passed my PT test on Friday...ran the 1.5 mile run almost 2 min faster than I needed to. I would've passed with 15:48, but I ran it in 14:00 :yay:

I rewarded myself be taking the weekend off...now, like Lisa, I'm carrying around 2 extra pounds...baking cookies yesterday probably didn't help either, as I do like to test the batter every now and then ;)

Mike . Seems like if a person wants to get decent or good at triathlon, it involves way more training than I care to think about! I guess I'm just lazy.

Maura

Maura: No way are you lazy...it took me about three years to build up the base to the point where I can handle this volume (and I'm not sure I CAN handle it). I will tell you that I have NO desire to do another one...yet :lmao:

Also, FYI, I'm utterly mediocre at all three events that comprise a triathlon...I guess my strength is my strength...thats about all I have going for me is that I have pretty good physical strength...but it would be nice to have some technique!

Mike

Hey Goofs, you are all putting me to shame with the training. Great job! It's been hard for me to get motivated when I didn't have upcoming races.

Our club just posted a lot of races for summer so I'm getting excited. I'm probably overdoing it but I've got six races in the next six weeks including two in the same day (2.2-mile and a 7.2-mile) the morning after I run the track at night for the Relay for Life. Yikes!

I ran 6 miles this morning in 65 minutes. This will be my first week in over a month where I will have my evenings free so I'm looking forward to more biking and other XT.

Good mornin' Goofs.

Ran my first tri of the season this weekend. It was a fun super sprint (250 yd/4.1 mi/1.4 mi). My race report is on the triathlon thread. In summary DS10 beat me! He made up all of his lost time on the run and beat me! Ugh!

I guess one advantage of being slow is that the minutes count double. :)
I'm due for a 50 minute swim tonight - still trying to fit it in to kid activities this evening (baseball & strings concert). Have a great day!

got in 22 miles on the bike in 1:15.

Still have a 50 min swim on tap, got to go buy a wetsuit, and take my daughter's car to the mechanic and my little guy to golf lessons.

Oh, and get some work done today, too....

Have a Super Goofy day!

Mike
