Summer rain

We have two trips coming up - one in early June and another in mid-August. We plan on taking midday breaks so I wanted to know about what time to schedule them. I heard it rains in the afternoons so it would be nice to try and time our naps when it rains.

So, around what time does it rain in the afternoons-after lunch or much later in the afternoon?

Is this true for both June and August?

TIA

I've experienced the most rain between 1-7pm. The rain there is so odd. It could be a downpour in AK and dry as a bone in MK. Even weather apps don't really let you know if it will rain for sure. I've seen them say 90% chance of rain on a given day and it doesn't rain at all where I am.

It really does not rain very long though. You may want to just plan the nap and go with it. We love the rain. People clear out and we have the park with less crowds.

In my experience it would be very challenging to plan for naps while it’s raining.

As pp noted, it can be raining in one park and dry in another. We’ve had it rain when the forecast said it wouldn’t, and no rain when the forecast said it would. We have never tried to work around rain but I don’t think we would ever be very successful even with a same day forecast.

I will say that we have experienced many mid afternoon summer downpours over the years. Also some around lunch and later into the afternoon.

Definitely hard to plan around.

My experience is that the peak time for T-storms is around 4 p.m. Sometimes it starts earlier, sometimes later. As for when it stops, sometimes it can be quick, other times it can linger until 10 p.m.

As the previous poster said, sometimes it can look like its going to hit you, but miss completely.

My advice is that you arrive at rope drop and go until you get tired. Then take your break. Generally it will all be over and you can enjoy the parks from 7 or 8 p.m. to close.

Like many have stated, you can't predict what time it will rain. I must add that some of my best Disney memories are during rain. During a shower over Labor Day weekend 2016 my wife and I walked on 7DMT three times in a row. We could have continued, but we wanted to ride something else. It can really disperse the crowds.

June is the beginning of rainy season so it may or may not rain. In August just assume that it will rain. It might be for an hour or it might be for 3 or 4 hours but it will rain.

2-4pm is the sweet spot. Most summer storms roll through in that window. Sometimes, there will also be a nighttime storm, usually between 8-10pm.

Our only June experience at WDW staying at POFQ seemed like clockwork as the rains were around 4 PM. We always do rope then usually left parks in the range of 3 or just after the parade, and then went to the pool back at the resort. I remember the lifeguards closing it as soon as they heard thunder. Then a quick nap, dinner at the food court , and then back on the bus back to the park.

We did find that the days where the rain was prolonged and more than a passing storm, it served to clear out some of the crowds from the parks. We always pack a supply of those disposable dollar store ponchos, regardless of what time of year we are there. We had a long weekend at WDW in April, no rain was predicted and we got a downpour around 3PM. Out came the disposable ponchos!!

If you are not used to Lightning(or even if you are),you will be in AWE of the Lightning in the Summer at WDW!:)

Our last trip in early June 2017 a ton of rain was predicted. We didn't get that much. Once a storm hit during our Crystal Palace lunch so that was perfect. Another time we were at Epcot. We just changed into our rain appropriate shoes and ponchos and had a blast.

This is a perfect way of putting it. Someone who hasn’t seen florida storms is in for a bang. Lightening thunder. Heat lighting at night.

Then again, I don’t wanna be caught in it lol.

The weather in FL changes so fast and I would really not bat an eyelash at the summer T storms. They are a good time to have a snack or hit a store. Sometimes they happen and you don't even notice if you're on a ride. Disney does a great job with the outdoor rides too making sure they're running when it's safe and if they do close for tstorms, it's short lived. There is no hard and fast rule for the pop up showers on what time but it's usually after lunch and before dinner but it can really rain anytime. The weather difference between June and August really just depends on the season. Usually June isn't as humid as August (it's still humid but not as) but in our experience we had more rain during our August trips than our late June trips. Don't sweat it, just pack a poncho, it's really not a deal breaker.

YEP.

True story, I was in a car that got a glancing blow from lightning on the Gulf Coast on the way back from Silver Springs. Scariest thing ever. Shut the car off in the middle of the highway and all the lights in the dashboard turned on. Of course it was a rental and when we took it back and disclosed it to the girl at the counter she was like, "yea uhuh"... didn't even believe us. And that was in April before the summer storms!

I remember years ago trying to get to our Teppan Edo adr and walking through pouring rain and lightning storm. Water was up past our ankles. We ducked into the door way at the odyssey for a bit but then went on. Ponchos didn’t help at all as the rain was splashing up. Lol. It was wild! We made it to our adr though we were soaking wet!

don't schedule breaks.....take them as needed.

Watch the weather, but most Florida afternoon storms pop up, vs move in from another area. So it is hard to say just when it will rain.
