Been at Universal since Thursday. Headed to Disney on Wednesday. We've been going every summer for the past 10 years. This is the last one. Not sure if it's bad luck or some climate change, but the past 2 years those passing daily thunderstorms have become day long storms. You get about 4 or 5 hours before the sky opens. So sick of walking around in wet clothes and shoes. It's gonna be Aruba for us in the summer. If we're able to pull off a non - summer trip, awesome.

I did summer once too. What I didn't like was the heat and humidity. Lowered theme park days and upped beach and waterpark days (fun), but those aren't what I go down to Orlando for. Theme parks aren't as great for me with the hot weather.

When we went in August 8 years ago it rained at 4pm every day, but it stopped within an hour or two. Fun trying to drive to our hotel in the pouring rain!

You honestly couldn't PAY ME to go to the theme parks at the peak of summer. I'm a born and raised Floridian, and even I say NO WAY, NO HOW.

I lived in FL for a long time and we had passes for years...and I have never stepped through those gates in July!

Now that we live out of state we visit early or late in the year.

I have to fly into Orlando tomorrow for an overnight business trip and am dreading it!

We've had to go in the summer because of kids and grandkids school scheduled and it can be miserable for sure yuck! We've went a few times for spring break but soooo crowded. I'd love to take the kids during Christmas break but the crowds look awful so I guess no perfect time to go. My husband and I are going this November and the weather and crowds should be great but sad the kids can't go during this time because of school. Not a fan of year round school but for disney trips it would be really nice. We are headed to Disneyland in 2 weeks with a few of the grandkids ... The weather is much nicer in California during the summer for sure : ) if I had a choice I would never head to Florida in the summer yet we are planning a trip with the grandkids next summer and thinking of the humidity even now makes me sick

We went to Sea World parks in the middle of July a couple years ago... It was hot and it rained a few times but we still had fun.. just have to keep the sunscreen on and keep hydrated...oh and dress for the weather..

my kids do K-12 online school so we could go whenever we wanted if it weren't for the fact I can't really get off work in the winter months...

Its Florida, it's rainy, hot and humid in the summer, that's just the way it is,some years are wetter than others and I would put this year as one of those wetter ones, but its not abnormal,I remember other years where my house saw rain every single day in June.I live in south Florida and between June and September my only trip planned is next month.Between October and March it'll be like 8 or more trips I have scheduled. If I lived closer I would head over to the water parks frequently in the summer, even if for just a couple of hours as it really helps with the heat but it seems like every year I go to a water park during a summer Orlando trip we get rained on more often than not.

Man that really sucks!! Hope the weather is better for the rest of your trip.
We had a similar experience when we visited in June in 2012. Keeping my fingers crossed that we have better luck for our upcoming summer trip. At the very least hoping for passing showers not on going downpours like last time. If it were my choice we would go another time of the year but others in my party couldn't do that.

We have been going in the summers since 2007 with a few trips mixed in at different times of year. Sure I prefer the cooler months of Jan, March/April or Nov. but we have been in the summer when it is hotter here in MD than in FL. Same tomorrow and Tuesday....hotter here than there and a few days last week..... we were hotter. I have friends at Disney right now but they have not complained about the rain. They arrived on the 1st of July.....has it rained every day???? :confused3

I have friends there as well, and they also haven't mentioned rain.

The OP did mention being at Universal. I don't know if it's strictly true, but my experience is that weather affects your day more at non-Disney parks. We always know not to leave any must-do outside rides for late in the day in the summer at Universal/Busch Gardens/Sea World because when a storm looms it seems to shut down practically the whole park. At Disney World, they don't seem to shut stuff down as quickly or for as long (maybe they have better radar?) and there is more to do inside.

I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing that. We've been going in June annually for a while and the last two years, the rain has been basically most of the trip. There are years where it doesn't rain at all.

I live about 2.5 hours south of WDW and we get relatively typical FL summer weather with the 30 minute thunderstorm and heat and sun for the rest of the day though even down here the last two years have been wetter.

Yeah you really have to get out early in the summer and get the hours in early in the day. I know people say the rain stops, but sometimes it doesn't!

We go at the end of August every year and we enjoy it even with the weather. The good part is that the prices are much cheaper and the crowds are low.

No, but today was a complete washout. Like I said, in the past, you could ride a storm out in a store until it passed. Now, it just doesn't seem to end. 2nd day in a row we just gave up and headed back to the hotel. It's not a question of if it will be torrential downpours, just when.

Local here.... We have had A LOT of rainy days since beginning of June. More than the normal afternoon shower and more than I remember in years past. The past few days (since Arthur blew through) we have had some tremendous downpours. I can say it hasn't always been near the theme parks nor has it always been by our house (east side of Orlando), but man oh man a few days of sunshine would be great.

Sorry to you all who are here right now. There is no way anybody knew this kind of crazy weather would be hitting us. Hope you are able to get in a few good days/hours.

We leave tomorrow. I am expecting the daily rain, but I hope the whole week isn't a washout. :guilty:

I think the weather has been strange everywhere this year. We haven't hit 100 grees yet in the DFW area.:confused3 But, I am NOT complaining.

We did WDW in July once- and once was enough. Horrendous heat and humidity, pouring rain for hours every day starting around noon and not letting up until after dark, and crowds. Never again for us.

We only go between late October and mid February now. DD has been able to miss a few days of school with no ill effects in the past. She will be a junior in HS this fall, so can't really miss days anymore, but she has her trimester break in early November. We are going to try for a trip in November of 2015, before she graduates.

We've always gone in the Summer because of school. That being said, yes it's hot, humid and it rains. We just roll with it. :umbrella:

This is actually weird, but we just came back from a trip (6/24-7/1) and honestly experienced almost no rain! We would see reports on the local station about a storm coming through the area, and then not see a drop. In fact, the only two times we saw rain was when we went to both Universal parks (and the one day it only started raining about 8 at night, nothing for the rest of the day). Of course, we did see a lot of lightning, and even watched Wishes to the backdrop of a large lightning display, but it definitely didn't hinder our vacation one bit. It's the luck of the draw, really, even in summer :confused3
