Summer - Never Again!

Been there in the summer years ago and never again. Luckily we are able to take vacations any time of the year so we won't have to worry about going in the summer months again. It will be November for us, always. I just can't stand the humidity and big crowds. Unfortunately for a lot of people, summer is their only option. I even went in September 2 years ago and it was so hot, (but it never rained once) the whole week I was missing the perfect Nov weather we are used to. You just never know with mother nature anymore.. the weather these days has been crazy.

We've been spoiled the past 3 years because our DD is not in school yet. Prior to having kids, I was a teacher, so we always went in the summer. But I have since "retired" to stay home, and we've been in May, February, and upcoming December. Pardon the expression, but it is going to suck when DD turns 5 in two years and we have to go back to the heat, humidity, rain, and crowds. And I live in Houston, so I am used to all 4 issues, but it has been so nice doing WDW in months other than June, July, and August!

I've only been once during the summer. The crowds were enough to keep me away during that time of year...

I noticed the thunderstorms seemed more lengthly last year during our June trip.....the all afternoon events you're experiencing. We just got back last Sunday from a two week trip and they seemed less lengthy and more of the typical shorter storms for us again this year. We had two afternoons of persistant showers and unfortunately both fell on DHS days, so no Fantasmic for us this trip. Boo! That is our favorite evening show.

Yeah, I grew up just outside of Orlando and lived there my whole life until recently moving to the Midwest. My family usually switched between annual and seasonal passes depending on who was planning to visit and during which times. I can't remember the last time I stepped foot in a theme park in July...well in 9 days I will be there. I teach so I'm off for the summer and my parents still live there so my cousin from Michigan and I are meeting up and spending a few days at POR and the parks. I'm not going to lie I am SUPER excited BUT I am also prepared for the worst. If it's horrible at least I have my October trip with my husband to look forward to. (It's nice having both sets of parents living 30 minutes from Disney still...)

We're going in the summer for the first time next month (I've been in July as a teenager-years ago) and I've been more concerned about the humidity than the rain!! I know to expect rain every day, but am hoping for shorter ones rather than longer. Our trips have mostly been Oct./Nov. with a May and Feb. thrown in so August will truly be a whole new ball game :bitelip: Although one Oct. we had 2 days of major downpours with absolutely no let-up at all and then in Feb. two half- days of the same, but I'd really just prefer mid or late day quickie showers!!

We've gone twice in June. Once was in conjunction with a conference which paid for most of my expenses. The second was a trip with DS and DDIL because DS is a teacher. I never want to experience that heat and humidity again. We want to take our grandson for his first WDW trip in 2016. His Dad doesn't want us to take him out of school even though he will only be in 1st grade. We have compromised and will go during his fall break in October.

Actually, I don't think it's bad luck the past two years. I think it was GOOD luck the first eight.

We went the first week of June this year, and it only drizzled once. We were praying for rain because we don't like the heat.

Two years ago, we had several rainy days that often lowered the temps and thinned out the crowds. We felt spoiled that trip. People are different, I guess!

I'm a teacher, so it's probably June for us until I retire.

Another local here...basically, FL weather is a complete and total crapshoot! Prepare for the worst and hope for the best :)

We have been here going on 2 weeks. We have been up and out all night and sleeping through the heat and afternoon monsoons. Forget that madness. I feel bad for people that only have a few days or it's just their 1st trip and they haven't researched.
For example, today I did laundry during the storm, drove to LegoLand while still raining. It stopped and we got the whole park done 4 hours in, saw 3D exploding Lego fireworks, came back and went to MK 10-2AM. 8 hours and countless rides, just had to change the kids schedules to be night owls. It's the only way.

We went to WDW once in the summer. It was June 1998 and every day of our trip had temperatures over 95 degrees. It was a miserably hot trip and we didn't go again for many years because of it. When we went again several years later, it was for a short trip in January while we were attending a gymnastics event with our daughter. Much better. I will never, ever, ever, ever step foot in a park at WDW in the summer. Never.

Been at Universal since Thursday. Headed to Disney on Wednesday. We've been going every summer for the past 10 years. This is the last one. Not sure if it's bad luck or some climate change, but the past 2 years those passing daily thunderstorms have become day long storms. You get about 4 or 5 hours before the sky opens. So sick of walking around in wet clothes and shoes. It's gonna be Aruba for us in the summer. If we're able to pull off a non - summer trip, awesome.

This is the exact reason we do not go during summer. We live on the gulf coast and are use to the heat and humidity but I do not want to experience it walking around a park with thousands of other hot, stinky people. We go in December and deal with the crowds and cooler temps. I would rather plan for the crowds than deal with the heat.

I like your attitude! :laundy: Where there is a will, there is a way :thumbsup2

We just got back, we were there from 6/27 & it rained maybe 3 times. The rain only lasted a half hour or so then it was done. It sounds like just being in the right place at the right time. I was surprised there wasn't more lightning...previous summers it would be tons of lightning. It didn't seem as hot as previous summers either. (Don't get me wrong it was hot but we've experienced worse summers than this as far as heat).

We are heading to WDW next week. Coming from South Texas, I'm actually looking forward to the rain.

That was the summer the entire state was on fire. It wasn't fun. :(

The issue with the rain is that it doesn't always cool things down. Sometimes the humidity gets worse, making it practically impossible to breathe. :crazy2:

We were there last month and noticed several long afternoons of rain. Not the typical pop up shower, but hours of rain. We also had our Fantasmic! cancelled.

This happened to us last summer as well. I have never minded the summer afternoon rain in WDW, but last summer it was different - rain for hours and hours at a time, two or three storms a day, etc. it really was never an issue in the past, but we are going in November and February this year because I need a break from summer in WDW.
