Summer/Fall 2020 - are you going?

Our May trip was moved to the end of August. Then the start of my kids’ school was bumped up by over a week so we moved it to mid to late-August. Then I started thinking maybe we should quarantine after returning home (now an order in our state) so we moved it to early to mid-August. And now my husband says he really doesn’t think the trip will happen or that we should go. We are watching for another couple of weeks but will likely have to cancel.

We are in the same boat. We have a quarantine upon returning home (assuming the one going down to Florida would be lifted soon), and so now wondering whether to try to schedule a later trip to avoid losing banked points, or just let them gooooo......

We plan on keeping our yearly November trip. Unless something drastically changes, I’ll be there.

We're still booked for later in October but waiting to see. Also, did anyone notice how availability is opening up this fall? I was looking at Riviera and there were absolutely NO dates available in any category the second half of the year. Now there's all kinds of availability in October and November. I'm guessing people are cancelling which only makes me more nervous about booking trips 2021-22. DVC is going to have a huge problem with everyone trying to postpone the use of their points.

I'm assuming reducing the ability to borrow from next UY but 50% is Disney's way of offsetting points that were postponed by a year. It's all nothing more than a big math equation, and if there are more delays/shutdowns then I'm sure we'll see that 50% limitation on borrowing points go higher to compensate.

Just cancelled our trip today. We were supposed to be there next week but after a lot of discussion and soul searching we just couldn't travel to Florida at this time. It was both disappointing and a relief at the same. This is my third Florida vacation cancelled this year. Thank you very much, COVID-19! We are still planning a trip to WPB next month if the curve flattens in Florida and doesn't rise in Pennsylvania. We also have another Disney trip booked for December 2020 so that lessens the pain a little bit. What will increase the pain is if Disney doesn't sell park tickets in 2020. We need four more so our entire party can go to the parks. :sad1:

I am looking forward to reading and hearing about everyone's experiences who do go to the parks in the upcoming months. Interesting times to say the least.

We just canceled our trip today as well.:sad:We were holding out until this coming weekend to make our final decision. The breaking point today was JetBlue emailing us saying they made schedule changes and we would not make our connecting flight. To us that was a BIG sign saying DON'T GO!! We were able to cancel and get a refund. Otherwise money would've gone into a travel bank.

We have a trip booked for the first week in Oct that we'll likely cancel due to several reasons. DH would still like to go even if we cut it short but IMHO there's too much on the negative side and a lot of unknowns. When all this started and the parks closed i also grabbed a backup week in late Feb bcuz we already flights booked on SW and I thought we'd have to rebook / fly by March 9th but I think SW has updated their policy and extended their expiration until Sept 2022 so we could still cancel even that trip and have plenty of time to re-plan. But more immediately points under consideration for Oct are:

1) can't buy park tix
2) who knows if there will be any park availability by the time we ARE allowed to buy tix
3) we usually buy AP's and plan 2-3 trips / year - with no AP's available and no park hopping i don't want to waste our money
4) our banking deadline is July 31st (this is a biggie if #2 & #3 aren't resolved real SOON)
5) i am immune compromised and our DS has had 2 previous lung surgeries so he's totally paranoid about contracting Covid
6) the entire state of FL is a giant out-of-control petri dish - they just can't seem to "get a grip"
7) nobody in FL appears to have any more common sense than a bag of rocks
8) i do believe in wearing the masks and my state still REQUIRES them in public and our infection rates here are continuing to drop BUT i don't really want to spend my ENTIRE DAY wearing a mask (or sitting in a "relaxation zone")
9) the whole one-park a day thing is another restriction i feel is a waste of money for what they charge for reg tix
10) limited restaurant availability and dumbed down menus with more price increases - and a "modified" F&W festival
11) i really hate the idea of having to drop a bunch of money on park tix so far ahead when everything is SO uncertain so far ahead
12) likely many ride experiences will be drastically limited or modified in nature

For those on the fence...here's an on-the-ground report. I have been trading email with one of my renters who was at Disney World just this past weekend. He was quite impressed. He reported that the Disney restaurants had strict protocols and the tables were quite a bit more than 6 feet apart. Staff was cleaning everything. They felt very safe at Trattoria al Forno, Sanaa, Topolino's and Artists' Palette. They loved the face masks sold at Disney Springs and in the resorts (4 for $20) since they were made of by far the most breathable material in comparison with a wide range of masks they have at home. He used the word awesome in CAPS to express how he absolutely loved the Disney masks. Finally, he said guest compliance with mask was almost 100%. The only time they saw anyone not wearing one was outside when others were not around, but as soon as other people approached, they would respectfully put their masks back on.

I do, however, worry that once the parks re-open, things may not be as great as what he described since this was during a resort-only stay. I'm mostly concerned about social distancing and mask compliance within the parks. He is going again back in August, so I'll be curious about the park experience and will check back with him again.

By the way, he loved the SSR remodeled room plus the safety protocols they have put in place throughout the entire resort which exceeded their expectations, so much so that he asked me to switch his August reservation (orginally Kidani savanna view) to SSR again!

trips booked: early August, sept/oct & nov/dec

August GDs parents getting nervous re FL covid numbers/response. Having unexpected surgery this month, not sure I’ll be cleared to fly anyway

was planning on letting our APHs ‘go’ in January. Just hit me I may not be able to buy vouchers in 2021 if I do

ugh

I'm hoping Florida starts to get it. Fingers crossed.
that’s an understatement, it’s rather shocking to
Watch it unfold
Thank you for your service

That would be surprising to hear ur health care employer has no issue with u going out of state, esp to FL or any hot spots. Most here are mandating a 2week unpaid time off if you do

Both mine and DH's employers will not let us come back to work for 14 days after a trip to any of the hot spots. DH, who works in health care, got an email "strongly discouraging" any type of travel right now. :(

With the extension of the state of emergency in FL, plus the quarantine upon returning from CT, and now guidance for both DH and I that we are not permitted to take non-essential trips out of state, we just canceled our August trip. I was really looking forward to a value 1 bedroom, too, when the rest of Jambo was going to be closed. We’ve re-booked to Thanksgiving.

We cancelled the FL part of September trip, and hope Hilton Head is doable for us.

cancelled 2 rooms about 2 weeks ago for OCT. Just waiting for my son to have me cancel his for Oct.

We are booked for a five night stay in mid-October. As of now we are holding on to that reservation in hopes things turn a corner. Our plan is for this to be a more relaxing trip, without all the hustle and bustle of going to the parks. We may try to squeeze a park trip in here or there if we can get tickets/reservations. If nothing else, it will be a nice chance to enjoy the pool.

I moved 2 trips to mid September for Kidani and first week of November for BWV. Fingers crossed

Aug 4th checkin and still planning on going, but the spike in cases has started to bring in second guessing and doubt... Will make a final decision 8 days before checkin when we can cancel without penalty for a partical cash stay.
