Summer discounts are out!!

I have absolutely NO idea what is driving POR prices to be on par with deluxe resorts. I used to think of OKW and SSR as "deluxe lite"

I really don't get it. It's nice. But to have a rack rate of $287 in July?! Certain weeks WL is only $30 more per night. And you can boat to MK vs the springs. WL is much nicer, IMO. I guess let the masses have it, but when they start getting that much for POR, its just going to get worse for the other properties.

If rack is $287 for a regular room I can't imagine what the "princess" rooms are.

I just realized that the "summer discounts" was pulling princess room only. So the $287 is the rack rate in July for the princess rooms.

Still......

Exactly. To be honest, it's far and away my favorite of the moderates, but that is exactly what it is, a moderate. Honestly I've never stayed at OKW or SS either (just don't see the appeal there), but if I'm spending $250 on a room, I'm getting a house off site (or spending half and staying in one of the nearby hotels). I love being in the bubble, but it's just getting harder and harder to justify the price for me.

Okay that makes more sense.

I couldn't find an offer with a standard view normal room, the closest I could find with the discount is a normal room with a pool view. Rack rate, $261. Not as bad as $287, but still way way too high for any mod.

Last time we stayed at POR was Jan. 2015. I think rack was something like $225ish for a garden view room.

It might be looking like Riverside for us, with a discount rate of $227 for the King Room and a Murphy bed...how is that rate? Am I doing ok?

And FYI, if they want to stay sustainable in the long term (which seems to be a dirty phrase to management at this point), I am EXACTLY who they should be catering to (middle class, early-mid 30s with a young child). Don't give me an excuse to try other things that we could like more.

Fully agree - especially with how high the values have gotten it makes off site more appealing - and once you are off site it is that much easier to do a day at Universal or Legoland or something.

There are so many time shares and rental properties in the area that you can get a lot more space for the same or less than a small hotel room on property. Being in "the bubble" only goes so far

They may be testing the waters to see if people notice. Is it not the most popular Mod? (Serious question) If so there may be a lot of people who book there without even looking at the cost of other resorts.

Do all the Deluxe's sleep 5? I know that is part of the appeal of POR (and CBR too I think) that you can fit 5 in a room. Much harder with the values

I think Port Orleans in general is the most popular MOD but it is usually French Quarter that I see not being included in discounts

From what I am seeing AK & WL don't. They are my two favorites.

Should have stopped at 2 kids. (Now if my youngest ever sees this post...")

And that's better how?

$225 a night for POR? ________, please!
$225 is better than $260+ sure it's not great but unfortunately Disney shows no signs of turning back right now. Also with a family of five many are stuck with that option.

Would you pay that for the Holiday Inn that gives you free breakfast?
I have paid $225 a night ONCE for POR and it was the year before last when I NEEDED the room as an add-on to our Xmas vacation at AKL and I refused to stay off property cause I wanted my crap transferred without the hassle.

So, based on that.... what do you think? Should you pay $225 for Hampton Inn accommodations?

It's the same insanity that has allowed huge increases in food and tickets...

People seem to be so used to booking/buying certain things that they are doing it regardless of price. And those prices are unhinged from inflation and increasingly from supply and demand.

There was a very loyal mentality to moderates...notably caribbean & port...many years ago when the rack prices were more inline with the market and compressed...when mods where in the low $100s range on average...

The phenomena I have noticed since the bubble crash is that people seem to say "we always book ____, we love it ICWFD!!!!" But haven't noticed that the prices at mods are 200%+ and the value is gone...they haven't gotten better and are now priced on a higher plane.

The deluxes did that too...and it really seems like their market has crashed substantially...CMB doesn't seem to mind if the moderate market does as well.

Ugh. Good point. I think my break point for a Hampton Inn accom. would be somewhere about half that. I know the values are cheaper - are THEY worth it?
