Summer discount out now

We prefer to book room only and buy tickets - no package. I already have my tickets, but was waiting for summer room discounts. If I book the room under this summer awakens deal, does it automatically turn it into a package once I link my tickets? I am confused by the wording of buying tickets and making it a "package upgrade". I just want the room discount and to link the tickets I already bought - not a package...

Linking your tickets to your account will not turn it into a package. It will remain a room only reservation.

I called this morning, but no discount for me. Mod standard rooms were all sold out and upgrades to a view would have cost me more because of the ticket increase. Two thumbs down, Disney!

I know sometimes they have, in the past, released extra rooms. Is it worth it to wait a few days/a week and try again...? Anyone successfully added a discount through an agency after being told on the phone that they are "sold out?"

I will probably keep checking. My thoughts are a lot of people booked rooms and may cancel later or decide they can upgrade. Then rooms may become available.

None for me either. Could not use it on the Savanna view at AKL - only standard views it seems, which is contrary to what you experienced. What is Disney doing? So disappointing.

I was also able to get a discount for a standard Poly room. Only 15%, but hey that is better than a sharp stick in the eye!

I was able to add a discount on my own today. I have done this in the past also. I have never had any luck adding one through an agency. My last experience trying to get a discount through an agency was very disappointing, and I will probably never try to use an agency again. On the day the discount came out (early in the am), I emailed an agency to see what they could do for me. After the email, I called Disney directly and was told there was no availability for my dates at the hotel I wanted (Poly). Two days later the agency finally responded and also told me no availability at Poly under the discount. They then quoted me a non-discounted rate at the Poly that was a few hundred dollars more than the reservation I had already booked at the Poly. No thanks, I can do better on my own.

I guess it's simple supply and demand. Since the renovations are just about finished, it's going to quite a popular resort!

THe thing that is killing my chances I believe is we are a party of 5 and the system now tries to put us in two rooms instead of one for some reason.

Linking your tickets should not turn it into a package.

I don't understand. We are booked Aug 24-30 in a Lion King suite at AoA, and my travel agent said that our price would actually increase with this discount because we only get the discount for two days. I thought as long as you were checked in by the cutoff date, you got the discount for the duration of your trip?? How does our cost increase with a 20% discount???

I tried looking up rooms through 8/25 on the website while booking and it wasn't applying the discount as i read they were doing this as well. They might have stopped it, or it might just only apply for the dates prior to 8/25.

I work in a reservations department here for a big resort in Vegas, and our LMS system (as I believe Disney uses this program as well) is set up to only apply the lower rates on the specific days of the discount. Nothing onwards from the stay-by date.

Hopefully the Fall promo will drop sooner than later. I just booked a room from 8/20-8/25 to have something in the system and so I can start putting in payments. I'll hopefully switch it to the fall promo when that comes out if I have to change my dates.

That BB-8 magicband is pretty cool.

What is the fall promo you are hoping to get?

The price is higher because ticket/package prices have gone up since you booked your original reservation so the discount is on a higher price than what you booked at. Since your travel dates only include 2 nights at the current summer promotional rate, the remaining dates are now being priced at the recently increased package price. If you want to get a discount for your entire stay, you'll have to book 2 different reservations. The first two days will be at the summer discount rate and the remaining dates will be at the fall discount rate (assuming it's available at your resort/room type). You will have to check out and check back in to the resort on the 3rd day of your stay (and may actually have to change rooms). Or, you could simply leave the reservation as it is now and not apply the summer discount. Then when the fall discount comes out, you can book the majority of your stay at that rate and just pay rack rate for the first 2 nights. We ran in to this same issue last year when our dates fell over both the Spring and Summer promotional dates. Ours was also complicated by a great ticket discount that came with the summer discount but couldn't be used before that date -- so we would have had to buy separate 3-day tickets for our first three days which just killed any discount the summer promo offered. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what to do when the PIN/UOC fairy sprinkled some pixie dust on me and I got a PIN/UOC that was basically the same as the summer room and ticket discount but for extended dates and fewer resort restrictions so it covered our entire stay.

Anyway....I've seen several TA's post on other message boards warning people that because of the recent price increases, changing your reservation to the new Summer promotion might actually end up costing you *more* money than your current rack rate reservation if you booked before the price increases. Now more than ever, it's important to do the math before just automatically accepting the promotional rate.

I mean, you don't have to book something that's more expensive than your current res. I was able to see my reservation quote go down $950, and then hit the booking button.

That was how it worked before. I believe that changed about 2 years ago. Now, all of the dates for your stay have to be in the discount booking period. Now you have to have "continuing reservations" one that covers the discount period and the other that covers the other dates. With the weekend rates being higher than weekday rates -- and other factors -- it could end up costing more.
