Summer 2024 Direct Incentives

It’s the blue m&m’s obviously.
I was literally holding a blue m&m that I was saving for last as I read @intamin’s post and debating whether or not I should share this wisdom with the group— but Merlin already let the secret out. 🤣

BLT’s 1 bedrooms sound really nice and I keep meaning to try our VGF points there but I’m such a point miser I keep ending up at Crescent lake resorts instead.

One other thing to consider is that in addition to long contract life and extremely reasonable buy in costs, CCV’s point chart is also extremely competitive— it looks good against rack rates now and I suspect it will look far better in 20-30 years. Though I haven’t been there, it sounds like an extremely charming lodge to visit even if you stop wanting active theme park trips.

I won’t say anything beyond that it appears going from 150 to 200pts at Riv with WH is an incremental $8,900. The marginal cost per point is $178 for the 50 points. 😎
Yessssss that’s what I’m saying, looks like 50 points resale wouldn’t be much less if at all, $500 maybe? And with restrictions is it worth the $500 in savings?

I worry with resale in retirement I won’t be able to stay at vero beach once it expires and there’s a new association…….

My plan in retirement would be HHI or vero beach and food and wine in the fall.

Could not agree more - we just came back from our first stay and it was so lovely. After spending a lot of time in the park our first week, we were hoping to relax yet still be close enough to the action to say...take the boat to MK just for Dole Whip if we got the urge (we may or may not have done this more than once)!

But it is truly a fantastic resort. And I know it gets some heat for only having the boat to MK, but some of the same folks in my fam who complain about that also take the boat from BWV to HS so I guess it's all perspective/what you're used to!

As long as you have not yet closed, they will adjust the contract for you.

So the week we usually go to Disney is 351 points at Riviera but I don’t want to over buy…..

I guess I would rent out left over points? Is that an easy process if you work through a broker?

Super easy. http://www.dvcrentalstore.com is the board's sponsor. There is also a DVC Rent/Trade board on here where you could post listings yourself, if/when you feel comfortable doing so.

What is the best “economical” direct add-on deal under current incentives between Riviera and Saratoga Springs? 💰💰💰

At 150 points with the Visa deal, they are only $1700 apart in cost. $28,700 for Riviera versus $27,000 for SSR.

Riviera has higher dues but expires in 2070. SSR expires in 2054. They are currently about 70 cents apart in dues, although time will tell how dues play out over time.

Personally, I went with Riviera because of the extra 16 years on the contract.

ETA the other consideration is resale value in the event you need to sell. For all the hoopla surrounding Riviera's resale restrictions, their contracts still sell for higher than SSR on average.

I'm reasonably certain there's a bus from WL to MK too. I think it shares with CR.
It is a dedicated bus to MK from WL. Doesn't share with any resort, or never has when I rode it. Another positive to the WL is it has a dedicated bus to FW so you can easily get there. Both of those buses operate basically in a continuous circle all day long, thus the wait is never more that 10 mins in my experience.

Anymore here just own only 150 points and they’re fully satisfied with that?

Would mostly rent 1 bedrooms, for a week in April so point chart is high for riviera but I would probably be okay staying at another resort or doing a split stay.

I really just need someone to make the decision for me 😝😝😝

Well, you will be happy with it for maybe a few years? I thought it would work for me, but it didn't take long to add on and now up to 900 points, 15 years later.

But, I think you can make it work!!!

Yes, no other factors but most economical to buy directly for existing blue-card members for the mere purpose of having direct DVC points to use.
If you’re under 45 I’d pick Riviera and it’s extra 16 years.

If you’re over 55 I’d pick SSR and save $1700.

Any age in between I think it’s a coin flip.

l would say, take your time.

Use your membership for a bit. Then you will be in a better place to decide:

1. Do I need more points?
2. Where do I want to buy more points?

It’s very easy to get sucked into the more more more mentality on this board where there’s lots of purchasing and lots of excitement going on :)

If you’re going to mostly stay in one bedrooms, make sure you really triple quadruple quintuple check that math that you’re going to actually save money versus just giving Disney cash for the room during their ever ongoing 30% off sales.

Generally speaking, direct contracts do not save money for one bedrooms.
