Suicide Attempt? Warning, very disturbing.

How awful :sad2:. So very sad and heartbreaking for her family and friends. Godspeed this young lady.

Far as posting it here, Lord knows we see a bit of everything in our Dis community... happy, exciting, sad, tragic, heartbreaking, crazy, etc.

Dawn does has a *disturbing warning* for those who do not want to read. :confused3

I know it's the community board. I just think it's kinda odd of a thing to post where she even says how disturbing it may be. I know, I know, I didn't have to open it but I did.

OP- did you know this person?

When I see a post that I know is going to talk about animal abuse, with a WARNING, I decide on that particular day that I don't want to read anything like that, I heed the warning. No, I don't know this person but I am a parent.

Yes, they can be self-inflicted.

Haven't you seen pictures of people dousing themselves with gasoline and setting themselves on fire to protest something?

That's true. I hadn't thought of that. I was just thinking that it seems like your survival instinct would take over and you'd drop and roll or something as soon as the flames started hurting.

This is just sick. Nobody commits suicide in this manner.

I too wonder why the need to post this on a Disney trip planning site.

I pray that her suffering ends quickly and the the person(s) responsible are brought to justice.

I wouldn't post it, but obviously we all read it and Dawn did post a warning. But, regardless, this is the community board where all topics (except sexual, religious, or political, etc) are acceptable.

Gosh golly. It was just an opinion. And like a previous poster I thought maybe it was someone she knew.

Anyway.....maybe it's just me today. I'm having a rough day.

 I hope it gets better.

Karl Menninger described depression as "anger turned inward" and suicide as the ultimate expression of that anger. I can't imagine the pain that this poor girl was in prior to doing this. It is so sad that no one intervened before it was too late. I can't remember which paper I read it in this weekend, but it was about "helicopter parents", who actually may not be helicopter parents. They have children that needed help and support through out high school. They succeeded, did well and went off to college, and in the process decided that they wanted a "fresh start". Often that fresh start involves going off of medication that gave them the help that they needed. Additional stress at college and then the decompensate. When they do, there is no one there to pick up the pieces. When they seek help at the clinics, there is no one there to fill in the blanks, etc. I don't know whether this girl is a freshman or entering her last year. No matter, she is someone's child, friend, or perhaps sister.

Poor girl and her poor family, I'm just going to pray for them to find peace.

Doesn't sound like a female behavior to me though, I thought females choose more passive means because they are often considerate of who they leave behind. I hope the police do a good job with this one, it just doesn't sound right.

A woman that I worked with killed herself this way. We weren't friends, just acquaintances because she transferred to another department shortly after I started working there. You would never guess from looking at her that she could do something like that. From the outside she was one of those people that looked like they lived a perfect life. She was very pretty and intelligent. It looked like she had everything going for her. People were shocked.

 Sorry, I hope you feel better. This is all over the radio news here and its upsetting.

Take care of yourself, maybe this will help. :grouphug:

I just posted the other day on another thread when the OP seemed to be getting attacked that we forget to take a moment to realize that we have no idea what is going on in someone else's life. Either for the OP or the person they are complaining about.

It only helps if we can offer a hug, compassion, or some solutions. The world is far from a perfect place, and for those of you that live in one God Bless You:grouphug: I feel for this family and I can't imagine the pain. I can think about it but that pain would be unbearable. It will make me offer a smile to someone who could use it today for sure. Small jesture but something.

Thanks for the reminder to be kinder, sorry your having to hear this sad news.

My DD went off to college this year and I am terrified of precisely this. She is not on any medication, but she has had tremendous support systems in place at home and now she has no one close by.

My girls are still in high school, but I worry about this, too. I had such a horrible childhood, I tried to do everything I could to protect them from bad things. I think I over did it to compensate for the fact that I didn't have a mom growing up. Now I am worried I didn't raise them strong enough. We all make fun of helicopter parents, but a lot of us are exactly that. Well, I am and I admit it. I wish I had done things differently.

People commit suicide in all ways . In 2002 a woman in Thailand committed suicide by jumping into a pit of 100 crocodiles (just google it how anyone would think of than I can't imagine)

WOW. How does the mind even go there????

It happens... it happened to me. I was horribly sheltered as a child (my father was a police officer). When I went to college, I didn't know how to deal with things on my own.

Luckily I made a friend whose mother was the sort who opened her home to everyone. Through them I made a new support group. I knew I now had somewhere safe to go to and people I could trust. It could have been a lot worse if I didn't have them.

So I was doing some googling and apparently, while setting yourself on fire is very uncommon in the United States, it is common in some parts of Asia. Was the girl Asian?

How incredibly sad. My friends mother committed suicide by burning herself to death 20 years ago. :(

How terribly sad, but I do think it's way too early in the investigation.

And burns over 100% of one's body doesn't sound survivable. :( And if it is, what is one left with? Unthinkable what she and her family are going through.

A woman in MA allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a motel cesspool. That would be very low on my list of options.

I'm so sorry. :( :grouphug:
