Hi there!!! I have been getting some great tips for our upcoming dlr visit. We will be in California for 8 days in the middle of August. This is the first time we have taken the kids, DH and I went in 2001. The kids are 11 and 9. We are going to be doing the Southern California city pass, so that's 5 days planned. I would like to spend some time in LA also. So, I am looking for some touristy things to do for the kids. Thanks in advance!!!

Some of my favorite kid friendly activities: Aquarium of the Pacific, California Science Center (w/ Space Shuttle Endeavor), Natural History Museum, La Brea Tar Pits, Griffith Observatory, El Capitan Theatre (owned by Disney), Autry National Center, Santa Monica/Venice Beach, whale watching.

Others mentioned them but yes Griffith Observatory (and there is also the zoo in the same area), Santa Monica/Venice beach, Hollywood (although its 50-50 with kids and yes SUPER touristy but can be a fun day out--take them to the Disney soda shop and EL Capitan Theaters), Citywalk is also fun which is the original Downtown Disney concept near Universal Studios. Great shops and restaurants there. Also has an AMC theater there (its L.A. though every city tourist area has movie theaters lol).

I moved this thread over to the Southern California forum, which is part of our California & the West section.

I like all of the ideas that have been suggested by everyone thus far!

We are spending 5 days in LA before heading to Anaheim. We are hoping to get to many of the things suggested by other posters here. A few that I don't think were mentioned are a studio tour ( we are visiting Warner Brothers), Beverly Hills ( they offer a $5 trolley tour- maybe weekends or Sundays only- not sure I just know we are going Sunday) and the Getty museum.
