We are taking the kids to NYC for DD6's birthday. We arrive on 12/28 and will grab lunch and maybe ice skate a bit. At 4pm we have tea at the American Girl store, but I'm not sure what we sould do after that before bedtime. We are doing the Museum of Natural History the next day before heading home. It seems like most museums close around 5pm anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We are looking for something indoors (we are going in Dec.) that will keep them busy and tire them out for bed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

We are taking my DD9 to NYC next weekend for her b-day as well! AND we are also from PA!!
May I suggest visiting the World of Disney store? or Toy R Us, or FAO Shwartz! They are huge and the kids could look around for hours!

I guess we could go to those stores. I was hoping we could avoid shopping though, since it's right after Christmas.

Not sure if your American Girl tea will count as your dinner, but there is a diner where the waiters/waitresses are Broadway hopefuls and sing all through your meal. It's alot of fun. I "think" it's called the Starlite or something like that.

Oh, you are thinking of the stardust diner.

Holden, I suggested those stores because they are an experience in themselves, just walking around!

Maybe you could pop in on Jon Gosselin. That should be good for a laugh for you and bore your kids to sleep...j/k...:confused3

If you are really set on ice-skating I would grab a hotdog on the street or better yet have a late breakfast and head over to the rink as early as possible. The lines tend to get really long during the day. Did you know if you go to the Disney store your daughter can get her picture with some characters. They will also give her a birthday button. Check out the webpage. Have fun and enjoy.

I think you could walk around, see the tree in Rock Center at Night and hit all the Fifth Ave. Stores and have lots of fun! No need to buy anything, the stores expect tourists will come in just to see the displays. Plus the World of Disney is supposedly closing after New Year's, so def. go in there just to get a look.

See if there are any inexpensive tickets available that night to the Gazillion Bubbles show! :goodvibes

THanks for all of the great suggestions. I didn't know that Disney store was closing! We'll have to hit that again (we've been there before). I also didn't know about the bubble thing - we'll check that out too. Also, yes, the tea will count as dinner (it's at 4pm), but we'll probably be hungry later so we'll grab a little bite somewhere (and a glass of vino for mom & dad).

I'm hoping the weather will be okay. It's windy and feels like it's about 10F here right now!!!

I would look into iceskating at Bryant Park-I bet it gets less crowded than Rockafeller Center.
