Suggestions for a weekend at the Fort on the cheap...

So we are a pair of locals (hour or so away) and on my birthday in early december, my parents will be taking us to Fort Wilderness (my favorite place on earth). My parents have done the parks a million times as they are also natives and have gone to the parks several times a year since the park opened. I am looking for some fun, not too expensive things to do around the World and maybe a little beyond for that weekend.

So far my list consists of the following possibilities:
mini golf at Winter Summerland
Going to downtown Celebration for the 'snow' and shopping
touring some of the resorts to see the decorations
roasting marshmallows at the meadow before the movie


Any other suggestions?

We love to watch the MK fireworks from the Poly Beach. You can also get a Dole Whip there.

Plan to spend at least one evening looking at the Christmas decorations around FW. We were there last December and could not believe the amount of decorations the campers put up. (Since you're a Fort Veteran, maybe you already know about this one . . )

Another fun Fort activity is to rent bikes and ride to the WL.

We also enjoyed an evening doing the monorail loop. We took the ferry from Ft. Wilderness to the Contemporary, and looked around there for awhile, then hopped on the monorail and stopped at the Poly to look around then ate dinner at the GF. Don't miss the gingerbread house at the GF. If it's a night of MVMCP you can catch the amazing fireworks from the any of those resorts. I know many on here enjoy watching from the Poly.

You could easily spend another evening looking around the Boardwalk area. The Beach Club does a chocolate/gingerbread carousel and all the deluxe resorts are decorated beautifully.


Enjoy your birthday weekend! There's no better place to be at Holiday time then the Fort!
