Hi. We will be at WDW for July 4th week. My dd's bday (11) is 7/6. We arrive several days prior to that but our first day as a large group in MG is that one.

The group consists of 6 adults and 8 children (10,9,6,6,6,4,4&4). Would you try to make ressies for the entire group, just our immediate family or I also thought of the two of us having a special meal.

Any recommendations for food? I haven't been to DIsney since I was a kid so I have no idea. It all looks so good!

She's a total "tween" so I thought the character meals were too young for her. Am I wrong on this one?

How about afternoon tea at the Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian?
It would be special as a large group or just a special intimate meal.

It might be a great idea for a "tween." I'm pretty sure you sit at regular tables and I'm pretty sure couches, eat and drink from fancy china. She could dress up fancy and do the grand tea experience. Here's a sample option from the menu:

Buckingham Palace - Our traditional tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts complimented by fresh strawberries & cream, or a selection of freshly baked pastries, served with your choice of tea.

You could even order a birthday cake or have a Cinderella's slipper dessert delivered!

Just a thought-if you feel she might have "outgrown" the character meals, this would be great for a tween! Instead of meeting a princess, she could feel like she IS one! princess:

Thank you so much. It sounds wonderful. I will look into it.

She's never been to Disney before so I have no idea how she will react to all the characters, but I'm sure she'd love to be a princess for a day!princess:

CRT would be a special place for you and your daughter to celebrate her birthday. The dinner menu has more choice and is quite good.

My oldest granddaughter is almost 13.....she loves the characters. Shoot...so do my grown kids! Just make sure she knows that you are NEVER to old to love snapping a picture with Mickey...or a Princess....or Chip and Dale....etc. I hope you guys have a lovey time.

Some sort of Character meal seems appropriate. How old is she, 11?

Who are her favorite Characters?

It's supposed to be very nice. Lots of people plan small receptions for WDW weddings.

Character meals are fun too, but IMHO, for someone her age, she'll get to see the characters (including the princesses) in the parks during regular meet and greets anyways. GF Afternoon Tea is a little different, a little more grown up and we all know how much tweens are dying to be grown ups!:goodvibes

You should look at the menus for Garden View Tea at GF and also the character meals on wdwinfo site and also check out reviews. That might give you a better idea of what you think she will enjoy most.

whatever you choose, birthdays in WDW are special in themselves!!:goodvibes

Um, Miley Cyrus, Zach and Cody and the Jonas Brothers  :eek:yes, she is turning 11.

Funny little thing about that (guess I really want her to be "not so grown up") because I kept thinking she was turning 10 until she said..."Um....come on,Mom....I;m going to be 11 already....You'd think I oculd at least keep their birthdates straight.

Honestly, I am sure she will love the characters once we are there, but, right now she says she'll be happy if she just sees Jasmine.

The tea does sound woderful. her cousin's bday is just after we are there (they will be with us). She will be turning 7 and absolutely follows dd everywhere. They did American Girld place together last year so I bet she would just think she was in her glory at the tea

Thanks so much

We're actually getting excited. Feels so strange to be excited about a trip 5 months away :rolleyes1
