Suggestions as to the best airport.

We have never been to DisneyLand, only WDW. I see there are 3 airports-at least- in the area. If we want to take a shuttle or cab instead of renting a car, which airport would you recommend?

Probably looking at Southwest or AirTran depending on the deals, in late August.

Definitely SNA. Small and quiet with easy access to Super Shuttle.

Always SNA !!! I could not go there this time, so LAX for me, but SNA is awesome!!!

For me I have a whole algorithm involved with the "best" airport.

SNA is so close, but it's more expensive usually. That said, the transportation options other than renting a car (I don't know about renting a car anywhere but LAX) are much cheaper. You have Grayline's Disneyland Express along with towncars, limos, Super Shuttle, other shuttles.

LAX has been nothing but friendly for us, even the TSA people are insanely sweet when we've gone through (even with a "stormtrooper blaster" and HUGE plastic sword in our carry-ons). Their tranport options are a bit more, but they also have Grayline's Disneyland Express.

Burbank, Long Beach, and Ontario all have the other options and Super Shuttle, but they are more expensive, and they don't have Disneyland Express. Long Beach is about the same distance as SNA.



Helpful hint no matter where you land...

If you're taking Super Shuttle, to get a quote use the name of the hotel. Do NOT use the zipcode; the cost is more when using zip code. Use the hotel's name.

If the price between the different airports is similiar then I would go with SNA. It is the closest to DL which means it is cheaper to get a shuttle or taxi.

However I have never actually used that airport just because it has always been cheaper for me to fly into LAX.

cheaper to fly into, but the plane we fly into this time will not even go to SNA. I would have paid more to go there but we got such awesome rates we had no choice but to fly into LAX. Its our first time I hope its not insane huge and I get lost

I prefer SNA, only because LAX is too overwhelming for me. I took a taxi to my hotel (Desert Inn and Suites) and it was under $40 (that was in '07).

I've read it stated this way...if you're a local and you're off to drop off or pick up, it's difficult and huge and crazy to navigate.

If you're a tourist, and you have a service dropping you off or picking you up, including the car rental shuttles, it's easy as pie.

Since I've only been there as a tourist (thank you MaryJo for being the local to pick me up last March!) I have found it to be simple simple. Of course, I do always feel funny that I'll get caught on video b/c I'm walking near a celebrity being filmed by TMZ, LOL, but that's a minor concern.

We've so far only flown Alaska while leaving, and that's weird b/c that terminal and airport (at least) has you walk your bags over to the conveyor belt instead of putting them on a belt behind them! So that's odd.

oh and the elevator is hard to find in the terminal, b/c the terminals are these round things, and you can go in circles trying to find something.


But other than that, it's really basic when you're just a tourist.


I also have a silly thing against SNA b/c my flight was delayed something like 3 hours, and that was AFTER I got to the airport 2 hours early. It was late, and most shops/restaurants were closed. Booooooring.

I have never used a shuttle or bus service, but when I took my oldest DD to Disneyland for her 16th birthday, we flew to SNA. We loved it! The plane landed about 9:15-9:30. We got our luggage, got our rental car, checked into the DLH, and we were about 10 mins. early for our Goofy's Kitchen 10:30 PS. I was kind of hesitant to drive, but the drive was super easy. We usually drive to DL, but if I had to fly again, I would definitely choose SNA!

I love LGB ~ I've only flown there and LAX so I can't speak of the others. LGB is small, close to DLR and inexpensive for us (we fly JetBlue). I pay about $50 for a car service to take us to our hotel and another $50 to take us back to the airport.
