 Okay, I know this is not the first time for a thread about kids DP options, but I have to vent. We got back this afternoon and I must say I still Love the DDP, but what are they thinking? The only dessert option at CS was sugar free jello, and even the CMs say it is awful. After walking miles and miles each day a piece of cake or an ice cream will not hurt my children - and I was able to substitute a tasty dessert over the jello almost every time. It is just the principle of the thing - I just want to say to the powers that be "Get Real, this is Disney and we are on vacation!":surfweb:

More importantly...why is Disney endorsing givin children artificial sweeteners routinely? Even just an fruit-sweetened icy would be better...or frozen yogurt...or just cut up fruit.

I certainly don't mind seeing diet and healthy selections. Lord Knows I could probably use them. But don't KO the old stuff for those that want it.

I completely agree! I would much rather my daughter have a little sugar instead of a bunch of artificial stuff! Frozen yogurt or fruit would be so much better!

It is crazy. I emailed Disney with that concern and received a phone call back and the lady insisted I was wrong and said every counter service has a couple of dessert choices......I knew she was wrong.

That is good to know that you were able to get a substitute dessert almost at every counter service.

Do you remember which ones refused to substitute?

We are going in May and want to be prepared.

Thanks

I don't see why everyone makes a big deal out of the jello. Besides i know for a fact that you can get a different dessert at almost every location, jello is just the usual dessert that comes with it. And no matter what dessert Disney offers you will always have those that don't like it, no matter what it is.

The good thing about the DDP, is if you want some ice cream, you can always use your snack for the day and get a Mickey Ice Cream bar or something. I don't know about anyone else but i don't have a dessert with lunch or dinner everyday when i am at home, or on vacations for that matter.

With all of the things going on during your stay at Walt Disney World, i would think worrying about Jello would be the last thing on my mind.

I know weight is a major concern in the US, but my son is way underweight. He has been told by his doctor to eat anything he wants and it doesn't matter what it is. It doesn't help that he is a picky eater.

Disney should also cater to both sides of the equation. If I pay for a DDP or a meal of out of my pocket, Disney should allow the option my son eat what they like off the menu not just what they consider healthy.

I also agree that artificial sweetners are not good for children and I won't let my son have it.

Ditto. Last year, people were complaining about having fries on the kids meals. Now I'm seeing posts where people are complaining that their kid can't get fries. It's madness, I tell you, it's madness.

Disney is now offering applesauce as an alternative in many eateries, and folks can pour as much sugar in it as they wish.

I couldn't agree more. I don't mind the jell-o for a night or two. But 6 nights of eating the stuff would be boring for anyone.
I watch what my family eat at home. Thankfully they have no weight problems. But we still eat fairly healthy.Vacation is special and we like to splurge a bit more than Jell-o! It didn't help that the menu changes took place after we bought the dining plan. So we're going to make the best of it. I'm willing to share if I must.

Thanks for lightening the mood in here!
Ditto!:rotfl:

Ditto It can be a no win situation.Imho let them share some of the adult's fries. There are usually more than enough to go around.

Same here, if you don't want it, don't eat it. Like someone else said, you can use your snack credits to get dessert-type things or have the kids share some of the adults' desserts. I think its great that Disney isn't outright offering kids cake and ice cream for every meal, in a society where 15% of children are obese. I realize that it is up to the parents to decide what their child eats, but if Disney isn't offering kids a whole slice of cake or an ice cream sundae for every single meal, these items are less acessible and at least its a step in the right direction.

But probably would be more expensive.

Yes, there are choices, but for the adults. You have to ask for the substitutes for kids. Some people dont know they can ask.

ASM food court-but the CM said we could have the adult desserts if she charged it as an adult CS meal. She said the CS meals are all pooled together anyway, so it didnt matter.

Have fun DDP is still the best deal around. :dance3: :cheer2:

I love the healthy choices, believe me I wasn't complaining about the general changes to the kids' menus BUT I don't give my kids artificial sweeteners. Period. I think it is just as bad as sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. and probably worse for you so I question the appropriateness of the choice but I am guessing that, yes, it was just the least expensive option for Disney. So, we'll just skip it or, better yet for my own diet, I will give them mine. Thrilled applesauce might be an option.

C'est la vie, nothing is perfect in this world.

Yes, healthy foods should be offered...but Jello? We're on vacation, not in a stay in the hospital! YUCK! And yes, the DDP is a great discount, but you are still paying for it. (unless you are one of those lucky fools that got the free DDP). Why not just give a variety of healthy choices to chose from? Or smaller portions?

So now I'm a fool.:rolleyes1

I know you didn't mean it that way.;) Did you?:confused3
