Notice I said "successful dieters", not "Chronic dieters":lmao:

Anyways, I'm needing to drop about 10 pounds for the first time in my life-I'm 45, had gall bladder surgery recently and have gained some weight since then.

What foods do you keep on hand to eat that won't pack on the pounds? What foods have you eliminated? How do you satisfy your sweet cravings?

What do you think has had the biggest impact on your weight loss success ?(besides excercise)

I lost about 15 ( i know that is not a lot) in august and I would say that I have gained only up to 5 back on certian days. I still eat the same foods, but i try not to eat as much at a time. I guess you could say I cut my serving size. I still eat out and i do not really like veggies. I also have tried to eat an earlier dinner so it is not right before I go to bed. I eat Quaker chocolate chunk granolla bars when I crave chocolate. I think they are better than the chocolate chip and they are only 90 calories. I also eat more grilled chicken now that it is getting warmer. Good luck with your weight loss. Try to drink more water instead of pop, too.

I am a snacker, I love to "pick" during the day. I simply stopped buying doritoes, chips, etc since I have no control and would eat the whole bag! Instead, I now keep things like string cheese, nuts, hard boiled eggs, baked chips, and cottage cheese on hand to snack on.

Desserts were not an issue for me as I have never been an dessert person, but I do eat a bit of dark chocolate daily.

I have put the 10lbs back on and I will say that it was NOT exercising that did me in. I was in TX, I was walking miles daily. I lost 10lbs without changing my diet.

Now I am back in MO for almost 2yrs and have gained that 10 plus 5 more lbs. And yes, I turned 45 last month.

I know if I eliminate soda, sugar, and snacks and couple it with exercise I will drop the weight again. I am working on it.

I eat veggies and fresh fruit to beef up my immunity and fiber.

OK, now I feel guilty. :lmao:I did buy a case of Perrier at Costco yesterday for my soda substitute.

I have got to do a daily food journal to see where my daily calorie count is.

Good Luck!

That has helped me the most; it was amazing for me to see how many "un-needed" and "empty" calories I was packing into my daily intake!

Yes, I have done it before and it really is the kick in the butt you need to see it on paper.

I have been lazy and MO does not help with it's crappy weather. OK...I know, excuses, excuses.:rolleyes1

Besides exercise, more protein and less carbohydrates(bread, pasta, sweets). Atkins makes a range of protein bars that are pretty good as does South Beach. Trail mix helps, even just a handful. I have moved to small meals through the day. I have cut some dinner portions in half and have not felt hungry which means I was over eating in the first place. Don't go around feeling hungry because that's a path to failure. Also, don't consider what you're doing a diet. It's got to be a commitment to a permanent life style change.

Everything in moderation - I do not believe in cutting things completely out of your diet however I do realize that in order to keep my weight down as I get older I have to remember moderation. I try to follow a 90/10 rule, I eat healthy 90% of the time ( fruits, veggies, wholegrains, lean cuts of meat, chicken and fish) and what ever I want 10 % of the time ( a good piece of dark chocolate, frenchfries, a good glass of wine).:cloud9: For some people it works to eat healthy 6 days a week and allow a "cheat day" one day a week and some find that they do better if they do well all day then they allow themselves a small treat at the end of each day. And for some it might be to allow yourself a couple of "cheat meals" during the week. It really is a personal thing and depends on what works well for you. I also find that keeping a daily food journal helps to see when and what I am eating. I use Fitday.com but there are many others out there. Also on having treats, cheat meals or even cheat days you do need to watch your calorie intake so you don't go totally wild on those cheat meals. If I am having a treat I make sure to include it in my daily calorie allowance.

I found that I have to exercise everyday, somedays I have a great workout and somedays it might be a simple as a 30 minute walk. Just make sure you move around alittle everyday.

I do love Luna Bars for a treat if I am craving chocolate. My favorites are the Nuts Over Chocolate and Chocolate Peppermint Stick( tastes like a thinmint cookie) For a cheese craving Laughing Cow Light Swiss Wedges are great on a slice of whole grain bread or crackers.

I have recently lost more than 30lbs and I do not believe in dieting. I do not think you can be long term successful with dieting unless you had a seriously unhealthy diet before

Anyway...my favorite healthy snacks are
grapes, carrots, triscuits, bananas, low fat yogurt, popcorn, pretzels
