Substitutions at Le Cellier

We have an ADR at Le Cellier for dinner on our upcoming trip. Do you think they would let me have the mushroom risotto with the bone in ribeye? Usually I get the mushroom Filet Mignon but last year it was so tough I could barely cut through it. So I thought I might try the ribeye this time. But I don't really eat a lot of potatoes. But I love the mushroom risotto. I don't mind if I have to pay extra even, but I don't see it as a side choice. :confused3: Has anyone ever got the mushroom risotto without ordering the mushroom filet?

We ate dinner in September
And we're not allowed to make any substitutions.

I highly doubt they would as most places don't allow that. That being said, I would try the Filet Mignon again and if it still is tough, send it back and let them know! A Filet Mignon, under NO circumstances, is suppose to be tough!!! The Filet Mignon, is the most delicate piece of beef you can get, that is why it's also the most expensive part, besides pieces that other countries consider a delicacy. How were you requesting it to be done? It's best to eat a Filet Mignon medium rare, medium at the most and if you get it done or well done, your just wasting your money! This is coming from someone who use to be a vegetarian. :rotfl:

We always substitute the risotto for mashed potatoes at Le Cellier. Have done it the past several times we have eaten there and never a problem.

Us too. Never a problem at all, in fact, they have always been happy to do it.

From what I understand you can make substitutions as long as you are ordering off the regular menu. If you are doing the Chef's Suggestion (or whatever they call that set-price 3 course thing these days), then no changes are allowed.

When I was there in October we made that exact substitution. They were perfectly happy to let us have the risotto instead of the potatoes. Sorry, the color is a little washed out, but here is photo of the ribeye with the risotto. :)

Thanks so much, Yummmm I can't wait for two more weeks

We have been able to substitute any side for another as long as it is listed in the description of another entree. You cannot substitute a side if it is listed separately on the menu and has a price point following it.

The risotto is listed with the filet so it can be subbed for the potatoes.

I've had the bone in rib eye at Le Cellier. It was prepared medium rare and was the best steak I had on that trip.

So that would explain why I could not get the cream cheese mashed potatos at dinner? I ordered the filet with risotto; I don't eat mushrooms and wanted the cream cheese mashed, but were told they are only available at lunch. :confused3

Based on the menus from October, that is correct. The cream cheese mashed potatoes are only on the lunch menu. At lunch they might have let you make the substitution because the cream cheese mashed potatoes are a specified side for the New York Strip steak.

At dinner there is a side called "truffle-crushed potatoes", but is a stand alone side ($8) and does not appear to be offered with any of the entrees. Next time, your best option is to ask what you can substitute for the specified side. Hopefully one of the options will be more to your liking.

Yes, the Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes are NOT an option at dinner. It wasn't as if you were substituting one side for another available side. You were asking for an item that simply wasn't available at all.
