I know I read on here about a substitute budget solution to put in swiffer bottles. How do you open the bottles? And what do you use?

Are you talking about the Swiffer wet mop that has the bottle that attaches and you pull a trigger to spray? I tried once to figure out how to refill those for my hardwood floor cleaning, and couldn't. So now I just use a large spray bottle with water and Murphy's oil soap in it and squirt and mop, squirt and mop. I like MOS better than the Swiffer liquid anyway..

I have a clorox ready mop, and refilled the bottle with a general purpose cleaning solution mixed with water.

Yes, the swiffer wet mop. I love the convienence of it, but I don't really like the smell of the solution or the cost. I thought maybe I could use vinegar and water or mr. clean and water but I can't figure out how to get the lid off the bottles to refill it.

Maybe cut a hole in the bottom (er, top, when it's inserted in the holder) and fill the bottle that way, then seal the hole back up with a piece of duct tape? A friend of mine did that with one of those 2.5 gallon water dispensers in college, as we had access to a free spring to refill our bottles.

I vaguely remember this being discussed on here once before and I think it was determined that the bottles can't really be refilled. The "cap" doesn't come off.

Cut a hole in the top so you can put a funnel in it then seal it up with a putty that you can take out and reuse.

I refill it using a syringe that's used to inject marinade into meats. It's the perfect size, you don't have to do a thing to plug up the hole you make.

I just mix up some homemade solution (actually lately I've been using Mr. Clean dilutable cleaner, mixed with water) then I take the syringe apart so it's just the needle attached to the syringe (take the plunger part off). Puncture the rubber part of the cap with the needle, put a funnel over the syringe and pour it through the needle. Remove the needle and reattach it to the Swiffer.

I've been doing this for a few months and have had no problems at all, no leaking or anything. :)

I do the same thing. I just use one of those little medication syringes they give you at the pharmacy for liquid children's medications. Just take the plunger our and pour the cleaning solution in. It acts as a funnel, and no "hole" to seal.

I could never figure it out either. Ive had my swifter for 9 years and just this week the piece where the batteries go broke and I had to replace it. A new one was going to cost just shy of $30, so I said forget it and bought the shark steam mop instead. No more refills of cleaner or cleaning pads. I used a 20 off coupon from bath and body and got the deluxe mop with 5 extra pads for $79. Im very happy with it.
