Stupid TV Channels Questions

Do all Disney resorts offer the same TV channels? We went last year to POP and DH was very upset about not getting anything but Disney channels and foreign news.

Yes, no variance on that. They all have a very limited selection of stations.

Thanks for the quick response. My hubbie is not going to be happy. Oh well...tough luck for him.

We stayed at POP last year and will this year too but I was very disappointed when I wanted to rest and had only very limited TV stations to select from. I like the Disnet channels that give you the information on what's happening each day but it would be nice to have a few more sports channels, etc..:surfweb:

Oh my! Another reason to go offsite for my family then! My DH doesn't watch TV all the time, but it is his "down time" routine. He would be frustrated at not having something to watch while the kids rested.

Yes! We were there during Stanley Cup Playoffs, and my husband almost had a heart attack when we couldn't watch the game.
Thank HEAVENS I brought my laptop and he could watch it on there.
"It's the CUP, how can they not show it" whine whine whine!
I love hockey, too, but I wasn't there to watch the Pens, I was looking for a Mouse!

Disney will give you the basic network TV (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) plus CNN, four ESPN channels, two Lifetime channels, PBS, WB, some independent channels (local ones), two BET channels, MSNBC, CNBC, SoapNet. Then they will repeat all of those for close-captioning. Then they will give foreign networks like for Spanish, German, Japanese. Plus, a whole bunch of Disney channels.

It's difficult for Disney to please everyone. I'm not happy Speed isn't on there. Or TVLand or TNT or even TCM. But Disney tries to provide something for everyone.

I want to add a really stupid RV channel question if I could- does Disney have the Disney Channel (with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Super Sleuths, etc.)?

That's why we take our portable DVD player and set it up first thing. We like to finish off the night with TV, nothing better than watching some movies we like. Disney doesn't want you in the room watching TV.

Disney resorts have an absolutely horrible selection of tv channels. There really is no excuse for it. I've heard people say things like "well you're at Disney World, why would you want to be in your room watching tv?". I can understand that sentiment but completely disagree with it. It's not for anyone to decide how you enjoy spending your vacation time. Every night I enjoy unwinding after touring the parks by watching some tv with a drink while my wife and kids are asleep. Also when the kids were younger I would regularly be stuck in the room midday while they took naps. It seems like half of the channels are devoted to telling you what you should be doing while vacationing there. I'm all for capitalism but Disney really takes it to the extreme in this case. Also, what is with all of the closed captioning? :scared:

Keep in mind that ABC is part of Disney. They are going to stick with their own properties as much as possible. No sense promoting the competition.

Swan & Dolphin do not have the same channels the Disney-owned resorts have.

I must be in the minority on this thread b/c the first thing I do when I check in is turn on Company Clips or Stacey and the Top 7 Must See Attractions at WDW. I was very disappointed when I stayed at the Swan and they did not have Company Clips. But, as previously stated, when I'm at WDW I'm there to see a Mouse and not watch TV.
