stupid question about PB&J

DH and I love the Uncrustables. We've only ever been served the ones with grape jelly. I don't think they have the strawberry ones.

Maybe you could make advance arrangements with the dietary request people? Or pack a big cooler full of them with you?

I hope you can work something out and that you all have a great cruise.

The OP was posting a legitimate question and it was about the availability of PB&J sandwiches not parenting advice. She should not have had to reveal personal information about her daughter's illness to get a proper response. People are too quick to judge others.

OP, I'm sorry to hear the difficulties with your daughter. Glad that a little thing like having uncrustables may make it possible for the family to enjoy a great cruise vacation. Enjoy!

I agree! I don't know why someone would feel the need to attack a parent of picky eater as there are millions of them out there, health condition or not. Personally I would not want to spend my vacation worrying about what my child is eating etc. My dd doesn't eat supper well, meat etc and the servers brought her grilled cheese sandwiches every night. They are VERY accommodating! :)

And I before I get flamed for catering to her pickyness she has type one diabetes and can't skip meals.....everyone has there own situation and should not be unfairly judged!

Please do not judge before you have all the facts. My DD is sick. She has a problem with her white blood cells. She get blood drawn weekly sometimes daily if she need to be hospitatized. We are very informed about her condition. She is underweight for her age and size. Her condition makes her weak and have little to no appetite. We see many Docs they tell us about her eating to just let her eat whatever she wants whenever she wants it. She is not a spoiled child she just does not feel well. When she does feel well she is a normal and happy child. But it sad to report that those days are getting few and far between. So please do not judge. We have a son who is a normal healthy child who will eat anything and everthing but sometimes some child are special not spoiled. Thank You

I pray that a cure is found and that she is well very soon. Disregard my comment about the doctors as it sounds like you have more of that than any parent should ever need to deal with. No child eats well if they do not feel well. Since you say that her healthy days seem to fewer, now may well be the time to do the cruise. Just be sure to have her doctors to complete the medical form so if she needed medical attention on board the doctors will have the needed info. Whatever you decide to do it will be what is best for you and the family. If you do the cruise you will have a great time and create memories to last a life time. Sending some PIXIE DUST to help in making the final decision.

dstein12,
so sorry you had to deal with unsolicited parenting advice in addition to the worries of a sick child! I also wanted to mention that my I had a very picky eater -- at age 18 months he was seeing nutritionists because he wouldn't drink anything other than water, wouldn't eat anything other than crackers. Finally he started eating cheese and yogurt and slowly improved, though he was still small for his age (after being a very healthy chubby baby). Once we went on a trip and took crackers and spray cheese everywhere for him just to try to fatten him up a bit. Then at age 4 he went on a cruise weighing 27 lbs. and came home weighing 31 lbs! Nearly a 15% gain in 7 days! I think it had a lot to do with the delicious chicken fingers and fries by the pool as an afternoon snack, cheese and crackers before a late dinner, lingering over dinners that had all his favorites and attentive waiters who really wanted him to enjoy the food. And by the time he was age 5, he got over his extreme pickiness and now several years later, he has a much more varied diet and will at least try everything we serve him.

Now he was definitely not as picky as your daughter, nor dealing with severe medical issues. But food is everywhere on the cruise ship and it is all kid-friendly stuff. Hopefully it will tempt your daughter as well. And if not, the cruise staff will get those Uncrustables to you and keep them coming, especially if you notify them in advance with a doctor's note (so they can stock up, haha). My advice is to go now, don't let the food be the reason you don't cruise!

My three-year-old son was just diagnosed with autism. We are scheduled to cruise in Jan 2011. He has a very limited variety of foods he will eat. I'm glad to hear that there is peanut butter on board the ship. He has never had Uncrustables, but I might have to get him to try some before we sail so that he can have his one source of protein (peanut butter) while we are on the cruise.

Wish you well with your DD. You should be able to get what she is interested in without much of a problem. You never know, the way the food is presented, and all the varieties, she may find something else that peeks her interest. She might even acquire a taste for the exotic - next thing you know, you'll be trying to figure out how to cook escargot and make sushi - or better yet, lava cake.

I was stumped on a trip to Florida when my kids decided they liked calamari!

You can also take a jar of peanut butter with you if your son is picky about what kind of peanut butter he likes.

Excellent idea.

I think I'd call DCL and talk to the dietary request people. Be sure to explain her health issues. I'll bet they'll be able to help you.

I've always heard you can't bring coolers on board unless it's for medical needs (Rx's, special baby formula). Again, a call to DCL would resolve this. Maybe they could give you permission as this is a medical need, of sorts.

Good luck! I hope you and your family have a wonderful cruise. Pixie dust for your DD.

My 12 year old daughter is also a very picky eater. No reason just is. She ate mac and cheese for 7 days. If I remember right they have the uncrustables, but we ordered a regular PB&J once and the peanut butter was "different" and she would not eat it. I remember it looking and tasting weird. Please contat Disney ahead of time they are wonderful at helping out with medical issues. Have a great cruise and don't let this stop you.

If I were you, I'd bring a soft-sided cooler as a carry-on and stick a few packages of the uncrustables of the flavor your dd likes in there. I'm fairly sure that those smaller coolers are allowed and as long as food is sealed you should be fine.

If I'm wrong, someone point that out. From what I've read in other threads, it seems do-able!

I hope that your daughter has a good time on the cruise and feels better soon!

I think you're right about the soft-sided one. I was thinking of the hard-sided or rolling coolers. And yes, as long as the package is sealed, it's fine. I think I'd call anyway, just to be sure about the cooler thing.
