Stupid coffee question

First timer going on a Merrytime cruise in December. I've seen that there are some specialty coffee drinks on the dinner menus. Do those cost extra?

I already scoped out the coffee shop (and heard the advice about a punch card), and hear that they keep drip coffee with the soft drink station... but have also heard that Disney Cruse drip coffee is surprisingly not very good.

Turns out, I'm a bit of a coffee snob.

Thanks!

Yes, the specialty coffees at dinner (usually on the dessert menu) cost extra. I wanna say that one of them was up to $10, would have to double check our receipt when I get home.

We didn't care for the drip coffee, so we brought the Starbucks Via and made our own. I used hot water, but my husband used the drip coffee to make it extra strong.

On the Dream/Fantasy there is a little cafe on one of the main decks called Vista Cafe and anyone can order there (they also have pastries etc that don't cost anything). On Magic/Wonder - I don't think there is a specialty coffee location other than Cove ... but I'm not certain.

Promenade Lounge does specialty coffee just like Cove.

Someone also posted recently that the smoothie stand was starting to offer coffee for purchase as well. There was a photo of the machine on the Magic.

And just to note, while I'm pretty sure you can get punches if you get the coffee with alcohol, the free one is without.

That is correct - all specialty coffees at the Cove Cafe, including those with alcohol, are eligible to be counted but the free one is non-alcoholic.

Can you pack your own coffee instead of beer? I drink H-E-B Cafe Ole in glass bottles.

You can pack your coffee AS WELL AS beer! No limit on non-alcoholic drinks as long as you carry them yourself until rooms are ready.

I will confirm this as well. I went through 2 coffee cards last cruise having espresso martini's and letting Ari the bartender on the Fantasy just make me different cocktails not on the menu with coffee. I just told him to surprise me.

I find the regular coffee in the MDR better than the drink stations. Not great, but better.

Personally, I bring Vietnamese or Oriental coffee packets with me (G7, or different brands of 3-in-1, 2-in-1 or instant espresso) and add it to the regular coffee. I stock up on them every time I am near an oriental market. Or just stop at the Cove for a cold brewed ice coffee after my morning workout.

on a side note: the G7 instant espresso makes a great add-in to a protein shake :-)

I am a big coffee drinker but am not a java snob in the least. I drink the provided coffee + hot chocolate powder mix + cream/milk every day, it's the poor man's Mocha and it is pretty great.

Thanks for all the responses. We are on the Dream so looks like she has a couple of coffee options.

BTW....nothing about coffee is stupid!
Hear, hear.

I don’t consider myself a coffee snob - I’m more than willing to drink Nescafé instant at home and I’m fine with gas station coffee (although it’s gotten much better recently).

And yet, I find myself unable to drink three brands of coffee - Dunkin, Coffee Time (a chain up here in Ontario) and DCL. Because of DCL, I bring Starbucks VIA (there’s that name again :) ) on every trip I take.

Interestingly, on the Magic a couple of years ago, my dad commented to our waiter in Palo how much better he thought the coffee was there and our waiter said that it's the same as the coffee in the MDRs (and on deck), but the much lower numbers and staggered seating schedule in Palo (so people are on dessert (when coffee is usually ordered there) at different times) means that the coffee is allowed to make a complete urn and get the right ratio whereas in the MDRs they are often pulling from the urns before they are fully finished brewing.

Having worked at Starbucks myself, that made a lot of sense to me. We were always instructed not to pull a cup from an urn that was still brewing because the mix would not be correct.

We just bring a french press. The hot water at the beverage station is hot enough to make good french press coffee.

We've actually taken our single-serve travel Keurig machine with us on cruises and hotel trips. We're able to make our own cup of coffee in our room, in our pajamas, as soon as we wake up. It's great!

I thought you were not allowed to bring coffee makers on board. If it is not one of the restricted items then next time I will pack our mini-drip pot or buy a travel Keurig to take with us.
