Stuffing Our Faces On Land and Sea - A Wedding & Honeymoon at WDW/DCL

We woke up nice and early on Friday morning for our ADR at Crystal Palace with a handful of our friends. One of our groomsmen and his wife invited us to come along with them almost as soon as they booked their trip, and I didn't hesitate to say yes - Crystal Palace is one of those places I know I visited during my Disney trips as a child but can't for the life of me remember, and since DH and I don't seek out character meals on our own I was excited to try out a place we otherwise wouldn't get around to for awhile.

I felt a little awkward trying to taking pictures of the full buffet, so all I have for you is pictures of my plate:

Starting from the top of the plate - Pooh's Puffed French Toast, corned beef hash, Mickey waffle (of course!), breakfast potatoes, potato casserole, breakfast pizza, eggs with I want to say some kind of spinach in them (what else would be green?) a sausage frittata, some watermelon & a strawberry and breakfast lasagna.

Yep, I go all out :thumbsup2

The standouts on this plate were by far the breakfast pizza & potato casserole - I loved the crunchy peppers and even though I haven't had much in the way of breakfast pizzas before (I always avoided eggs until recently) I feel like it was definitely excellent! As for the potatoes - they were cheesy and gooey and tasty and WONDERFUL! Yum Yum Yum. And of course who can resist a Mickey waffle?

The other items on the plate were fine - nothing out of this world but nothing awful as well. I grabbed the puffed french toast and breakfast lasagna due to their online popularity but neither impressed me much. If anything I thought the breakfast lasagna was a little weird. That being said, I would totally try both on my next visit to CP (whenever that may be) just to be sure.

Plate #2 was more of the favorites and some extras: more breakfast pizza & cheesy potatoes, some Disney bacon, a cheese danish & apple & raisin quinoa (look! I can try to be healthy!)

I don't know why I persist in grabbing Disney bacon - maybe in the hopes that one day it'll magically taste like real bacon? The quinoa was a poor choice, it smelled amazing from the pot but did not taste delicious to me. I don't think I even touched the cheese danish; who has room for pastries when Mickey waffles & breakfast pizza are on the line?

(By the way, I have no picture of Kevin's plate, but I can tell you exactly what he got with confidence - Mickey waffles. Just Mickey waffles. You'll see when we get to the cruise that my DH is a creature of habit...)

And of course, it's not a character buffet without characters. I will say (from the perspective of someone who doesn't care about characters at all) that I appreciated that the characters looked at our table of 6 20-somethings and said hello, took a quick picture, and left. Much appreciated :thumbsup2

If I had to pick a favorite Pooh character, it would be Tigger - I relate to his hyperactiveness ;) - so we all enjoyed seeing this picture later to see that Tigger was actually looking to replace Kevin!

Based on the food I would give Crystal Palace a 7/10. I would very happily come here in the future for breakfast pizza, cheesy potatoes and Mickey waffles and be happy as a clam. The characters will keep me away for some time though, unless we travel with friends again like this, or whenever we visit with little ones of our own.

Great review - can't wait to hear about the cruise too! My DH is insanely picky and also a creature of habit, so I can understand.

I actually did like the breakfast quinoa, but I'm weird like that.

And I agree 100% that if I didn't have my 4 year old - I'm almost certain we'd skip character meals. Well except for 1900 breakfast, because that was hilarious.

Congrats!! And YUMMY!!!

Thank you and welcome!!

1900 is at the top of my list for when we do find ourselves going to character buffets on a regular basis, it looks awesome!

Hahaha if anything I think I'm the weird one for NOT liking the quinoa - actually I think that's the first time I've ever had quinoa haha. I think I would've liked it better if it was more oatmeal-like in consistency instead of liquid-like.

Yeah, MORE BEER! Have I mentioned how much I like you two already ; ) I totally agree with you on the Yneuling, even mediocre beer taste better in Florida.

Wow your breakfast pizza looks delish. I'm with you on the character meals, so the items are a bit of an anomaly to me. Gotta ask, what is breakfast lasagna? Sounds as odd as it tasted.

Congratulations! Your reviews are great and I love the first picture of you two! Can't wait to read along!

....Ok admittedly, I had to look up the recipe for the lasagna. It is layers of pound cake, waffle, pancake with some strawberries and topped with a custard. It was the custard that threw me. Maybe I'll try it again without it?

What can I say, we like beer ;)

Congratulations! Your reviews are great and I love the first picture of you two! Can't wait to read along!

Thank you!!

Thanks for your review of Crystal Palace. We're having breakfast there in about a week, I haven't been there for years, and it's the first time there for the rest of them, so we're really excited about it.

You're welcome!! I hope you & the rest of your crew enjoy!

After we stuffed our tumbleys at Crystal Palace, we enjoyed a busy morning at Magic Kingdom full of lots of criss-crossing and landhopping. We left the park in the afternoon (now with my family instead of our friends) and headed to Epcot for some scheduled Drinking Around the World! As much as I wanted to complete it, I was thinking of the wedding dress I had to wear in less than 48 hours  and almost no one else felt up to it, so only Kevin, my brother, and 1 groomsmen decided to take up the challenge. My way of participating was to take a sip of every one of Kevin's drinks so I could say I did :thumbsup2

I apologize in advance as I have almost nothing by way of photos in this update! Ah well.

We started in Mexico. Kevin got a Modelo Especial which he gave a 2/5. Being a beer snob, he tends to avoid the Bud Light level if he can help it (so he was generally setting himself up for disappointment here). As for myself, I wanted to start off with my own drink, so I headed into La Cava for....

The avocado margarita!! As one who does not typically enjoy margaritas, I liked this one a lot. I don't know how much it really tasted like avocado, but I enjoyed it none the less. I say 7/10.

I skipped Norway and China, but Kevin and my brother decided to try the fairly new Einstok White Ale in Norway. They both proclaimed it pretty average - not fantastic but not awful.

China meant Kevin getting a Tsing Tao (as he will almost never deviate from beer, unless it's for whiskey), which meant Kevin being sorely disappointed. One of our friends tried the Cantoloopy (vodka and cantaloupe juice) and proclaimed it as "Holy crap" strong.

Germany for Kevin meant an Altenmünster Oktoberfest, which he gave a 3.5/5 - you can always count on Germany (and Canada. And the UK) to have reliable not-light beer!

Italy was where I finally got back in the game. We had to stop to take a picture of where we would be getting married (at that point, it was 40 hours away!)

We stopped inside the Enoteca Castello Wine Shop, where I finally tried the much-talked about (at least in my Disney circle) Rosa Regale.

This was waaaaaay too sweet for me. Like drinking pure syrup. I usually gravitate towards sweeter wines too. Total pass - 2/10.

I have failed you already friends, for I cannot remember what Kevin got (and he did not check in on his app with it). I can tell you where he got it (the wine shop) and what he thought of it (awful, tasteless junk). Moving on?

We continued to America Adventure, where the men were craving sustenance, so where did we go? If you guessed Liberty Inn folks, you get a Golden Mickey.

If memory serves I'm fairly sure I helped him with some of these fries.

The guys also chose this time to have a Sam Adams Oktoberfest (which was of course loved by all, given that we are all from MA and drink this on a fairly regular basis).

Yes, I did skip Japan (I actually was done for the day at this point) but Kevin got a Kirin draft from the sake booth. He was once again let down by Japan's "beer" (or as he called it, Number 1 in a Cup).

Morocco was next, where Kevin got an Efes beer. This is also where Kevin discovered that Efes beer is basically Bud Light.

Sadly this was where our drinking around the world ended for the day, 3 countries short. As Kevin said, eating the chicken nuggets in American did him in, leaving no room for additional beverages. He was disappointed he couldn't finish, especially given that out of all the countries he was looking forward to UK and Canada the most. Go figure!

Lesson Learned: If you stubbornly insist on only drinking beer when DATW and you are a beer snob, be prepared to be disappointed in Mexico, China, Italy, Japan and Morocco.

We walked back to our resort and enjoyed the pool for the first time and met some friends at Jellyrolls. Meanwhile, my whole family (parents, siblings, and all the aunts/uncles/cousins) were having dinner at Captain's Grille (which they all loved!). My father had told them when he made the reservation they were celebrating our wedding, so when they arrived and Kevin & I weren't with them, the Captain's Grille staff insisted on sending a plate of goodies to our room. We got back to the room later to find this:

So nice!! We enjoyed the Bride strawberry that night, and man was it delicious. I also enjoyed the macaron (my first!) - it seemed to be some kind of a berry flavor (like a raspberry) that I wouldn't seek out on my own (nor would I again) but I definitely didn't hate it. I'm not sure what the egg-like things were, they had some kind of cream filling, but I tried one and left it at that. The jelly cubes were some odd unclear fruit flavor that wasn't very good, and of course (being that we are anti-chocolate!) the groom strawberry went uneaten. We passed off the remaining cube, egg and groom-berry to our friends the next day.

Many congratulations !

I'm loving your review and can't wait to hear about your wedding:goodvibes.

I hope you did make it on your trip to the uk pavilion - not that I'm biased ( being from the uk);)

Yeah, more drinking!!! Is it too presumptuous of me to request an invite to your vow renewal???

The avocado margarita is my most favorite drink in the world. I agree the avocado flavor isn't prominent, but it definitely adds creaminess. We are attempting to recreate it at home. Fingers crossed...

What peeps are u hanging with that they recommended the Rose regale? Truth in advertising I despise sweet wine, but even with that I can't imagine a world where this is recommended.

Laughed out loud at the number 1 in a cup. Kirin is my go to sushi beer so I will try and erase that comment from my mind next time I endulge.

How great of captains grill to send you the dessert plate. Definitely first class.

Thank you!! Never fear, we made sure to give the UK some love, it's one of our favorite pavilions hands down :)

Enjoying your thread. Congrats!

Thank you!!

We like our drinking!! As much as I would like to have something sooner I don't see a vow renewal before our 20th - but feel free to check in with us then ;)

I could definitely go for one of those avocado margaritas right about now......or any day. I typically gravitate towards Rieslings and the like before chardonnay so I figured I'd like the Rosa, but it was just not my cup of tea at all.

I was so touched by Captain's Grille! They also decorated the table with personalized menus and balloons - so sweet!

Saturday, October 11th

I woke up on the day before our wedding and decided that if I had any hope of having energy for that evening's festivities, not to mention the following day's that I had to take it easy and stay at the resort for the day. My soon-to-be DH was gracious enough to run down to the Beach Club Marketplace and grab me some breakfast.

Ye Olde Standard Disney Cinnamon Roll

I don't know if it's a deluxe resort thing, or because it was so early in the day (at least 7:30am) but this tasted far better than any other Standard Disney Cinnamon Roll I'd had before (predominately at Everything Pop). It was warm, cinnamon-y, flaky where it was supposed to be flaky and soft where it was supposed to be soft. I give it a 7/10.

After a morning of completing DIYs, I was starving but didn't want to overload my appetite (knowing we had a delicious buffet that evening) so I called my mother and we decided to have a girl's lunch at the resort with one of my bridesmaids. I tried in vain to get into Beaches & Cream, but no go there  So instead we headed down the hall to the Crew's Cup Lounge.

It's my wedding weekend, I'm sick, and I'll do what I want! So I ordered two apps for lunch: House-cut Truffle Fries with roasted shallot mayonnaise and shredded parmesan and New England Clam Chowder

Now given that I am actually from New England, born and raised, I tend to judge my chowders by a pretty high bar when we travel outside the region. Yacht Club's version is perfectly adequate; not the "I can't believe they call this a chowder!" atrocity I've had at some restaurants, but far from my favorite.

Those truffle fries were OUT OF THIS WORLD! Crispy, hot, delicious, perfect. The parmesan shavings gave it an extra savory kick that was just right, and the mayo that accompanied them was fantastic. It takes a lot to get me to dip my fries in something other than ketchup, and this definitely fit the bill.

I give the chowder a 6/10 and the truffle fries a 9/10 Yum Yum!

After even more wedding events (including our rehearsal!) we headed to Ariel's at the Beach Club for our Welcome Party, which was our rehearsal dinner so to speak. We wanted an event for our entire guest list (around 75 people) and so the best course of action during our wedding planning was to have a private catered event planned through Disney's Fairytale Weddings (aka DFTW). We chose Ariel's as a location due to the fact that about half our guests were staying at Beach Club and the fact that we knew our rehearsal was going to be at the Yacht Club Convention Center. For they that do not know (though I'm sure many of you know better than I do!) Ariel's is the Beach Club's former signature restaurant, which closed some time ago and is now one of the more popular reception venues for Disney brides (at least among the ones I've seen!)

Our menu (which we chose ourselves) was as follows:

  • Petite Garden Lettuce, Carrots, Watermelon, Feta, Sunflower Brittle & Pea Tendrils Salad
  • Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, Roasted Tomatoes Confit, Spinach, and Asiago Cream Sauce
  • Fried Chicken Fingers, Guava Barbecue Sauce, and Sweet Chili Mustard Sauce
  • Ciabatta and Focaccia Bread with Herb-infused Olive Oil and Butter
  • "New York" Style Pizza
  • "Washington State" Apple Cobbler served warm with Vanilla Sauce

Petite Garden Lettuce, Carrots, Watermelon, Feta, Sunflower Brittle & Pea Tendrils Salad

Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, Roasted Tomatoes Confit, Spinach, and Asiago Cream Sauce

Chicken Fingers.....obviously

Pizza.........obviously

"Washington State" Apple Cobbler

Now, onto the reviews....I don't actually remember seeing the bread anywhere, so no comment there. Also I only had 2 chunks of watermelon from our salad - and it tasted like watermelon. I heard many guests loved it though. The chicken fingers were pretty standard chicken fingers, and the pizza was AMAZING! Probably the best pizza I've ever had on property.

And, the cream of the crop, my only must have on this menu, the pasta from heaven. This is the creamiest, most decadent and delicious pasta I have ever tasted. We were originally going to serve this at our wedding reception but had to cut it due to having too many carbs (such a hard problem to have :lmao:) so when we decided to have a catered rehearsal dinner I instantly knew we had to serve this. I had 2 plates of this and it was seriously not enough.

Sadly the "cobbler" was a real miss. I don't know what Disney thinks a cobbler is, but to me a cobbler is more of a crumbled topping vs a cake one - and the taste itself was pretty bland. Maybe it's a Washington State thing and I just have an East Coast perspective? Eh, oh well. I should have just had more pasta.

I can't rate this menu out of 10, it's too hard, so just know everything was well received minus the dessert!

And of course, since it doesn't see much action outside of wedding & convention events, some shots of Ariel's for you all - peek in the next time you're walking by Cape May or headed to Martha's Vineyard!

Coming up next: Our Wedding Reception!! Depending on how long it takes for me to get my professional pictures back I MAY skip past the wedding day and return later, but I'll leave you all with this sneak peek of one of my favorite foods from our wedding meal:
