Going for 3 low-budget weeks, alone. Packed a small crock pot, ziplocks, plate, bowl, cutting board, sharp knife, real flatware, s&p, oregano, cinnamon, chili powder. Planning a grocery stop for perishables.

What am I forgetting?

If you do something similar, what are your favorite dishes?

Advice for me?

You might want a strainer/colander and some bowls that can handle hot food -- at least, *I* don't like trying to put hot food straight into baggies for storage.

good thought. pyrex bowl set with snap on lids. check.

Hello
Not sure if you make Iced Tea/Kool-aid or anything like that, but my wife brings a pitcher for drinks and ice cold water.:surfweb:

I don't have any ideas for you as I've never done that. But, I had to say- WOW! That is my dream. Maybe one day, DH will let me do it- even if only for a week!

Not sure if this is the type of thing you're looking for but I would bring microwave popcorn and oatmeal/cream of wheat for breakfast. Since they aren't perishable you can stock up at home and either bring it or ship it in a box ahead of you. Since you are staying that long - you may want to ship a box with all your non-perishables and I have heard some people ship cases of bottled water. Have a glorious 3 weeks.

What am I forgetting?...

You are forgetting to get a one bedroom reservation. A studio is only a glorified hotel room. ;)

Where to store all your stuff would be my biggest problem if I were staying in a studio.

Owners Locker so you don't need to bring all that stuff back with you and it will be there ready for the next time

I would definitely pack *real* dishes. We found some great stuff made out of melamine and it worked great. We actually got some 4th of July themed dishes when they went on clearance. We got 4 cups (24oz each), 4 plates and 4 bowls for a total of $5! I also found some melamine silverware, service for 4, in the dollar spot at Target. It is not as good as real dishware/silverware, but it is far better than paper and plastic. On top of that, it is not too expensive so if you shipped it down ahead of time, you could dispose of it at the end of the trip and it wouldn't be a huge waste of money.

I don't know what kind of "cooking" you're planning on doing in the room, but 10 years ago, before most rooms started to have microwaves, I actually learned to reheat and cook food with the coffee maker using tin foil and a small pot when I was snowed in at a resort in MO! There is a lot you can cook up in the room if you bring tin foil and a tiny pot, that is if you don't like the way that things are overly nuked by microwaves.

As far as spices, garlic powder and onion powder are a must for me! I also like chives, basil, cumin & crushed red pepper. But these are things I cook with a lot. A while back, I made myself a "portable spice container". I got one of those screw/nail/bolt organizers from the hardware store and tiny craft baggies from Michael's and labeled them. I just emptied all the baggies and will refill them before my trip in only 22 DAYS!:yay:

What I like is as nice placemat, an extra kitchen towel, a silicone pot holder (which doubles as a trivet), real bowls/plates. I do have a very full OL. ;)

I usually spend most of Jan in WDW--so I know you will have a great time. :thumbsup2

I have a tiny fry pan so I can do eggs, bacon, mini pancakes..

I've seen those electric skillets. They are only like 11 inches. I think they are so cute and will work well for DH and I in 10 years after I retire and start spending most of January in a studio.:cool1:

Another vote for "real dishes". Also, you might consider getting a re-fillable mug. You would get so much more than your money's worth after 3 weeks
:-)

He skis. It is not a case of him "letting" me do it, :rotfl2:

Actually, no storage issues there. I'm not spending the points on a 1 bedroom for 1 person - i'm too ch - er - FRUGAL - that's it frugal. I packed a couple mini plastic laundry baskets to put smalls in on the shelves, a pop up hamper, and an over the door shoe bag for the bathroom flotsom.

I had one - when I made 4 trips a year and it was great. But with most of my trips for the last couple starting with a cruise, it was problematic. I needed stuff in the locker for the cruise, etc. Now I have only this trip this year, so shipping a box is the thriftier choice.

Ok, Placemat, dish towel and potholder - check - VERY good thoughts. Thank you!

Mmmmmm fry pan. I might do that instead of the crock pot, another year . . . or if I can find one ch - sufficiently inexpensive . . .

That would be me, retired and in a studio for most of the month of January :goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks for the great suggestions, everybody!

I have a microwave egg poacher that I take with me to make eggs in the microwave. You can find one at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Also, DH made bacon in the microwave by putting many layers of paper towels on the bottom of the microwave, placing the bacon on top, and then another layer of paper towels.

I second the oatmeal suggestion.

Here's a link to the egg poacher.

I brought a microwave egg poacher and got canadian bacon and cheese and put them on english muffins.

Don't know if you've left yet or not, but we just returned from our first DVC stay at HHI, and a large coffee/mug was GREAT! (I used Pampered Chef's coffee and more cups) Great for heating soups, used as a bowl for cereal, coffee, they were really handy!

I bring a small plastic dish rack to place my washed dishes in for drying. I use really nice plastic microwavable plates and don't forget a plastic spatula. I also bring a portable electric burner (small) , small frying pan, small pan.

no suggestions, but just wanted to say, being from the capital region myself and freezing my tushy off right now, I'm VERY jealous! Only 20 years more until I can do this!
