We are new DVC owners and would love your advice on staying in Studios vs. 1-bedroom? There are 3 of us, and while it is nice for our daughter to have her own room, the 1-bedrooms are a lot more points. are they worth it in your opinion? Do you use the full kitchen a lot? Love to hear your opinions and favorite resorts for an 8 year old who love waterslides! :)

We stayed at the Poly last June in a studio and loved it. We took our 6 year old grandson. We also had 2 high school age boys- so 5 total in the room. We had plenty of space and he bathrooms are split so 2 people can use at same time. Great resort, monorail to MK...

It all depends on you and your preferences. Do you want to cook on vacation to save money? Are you away from the room all day and night, so having more space isn't important? Do you want to try a 1 bedroom just to see how it fits?

We love the 1 bedrooms - a big draw for me is the in-villa washer & dryer. That enables us to pack a lot less. There will be two TVs (and thus, two remotes, LOL). There will be a jacuzzi tub, which is so nice after a long day of walking and standing. I seldom cook anything while on vacation, but that full size refrigerator holds a lot more milk, juice, soda and restaurant leftovers than does that small dorm size unit in the studios. The extra room will enable someone to get up early or stay up late without disturbing the other people in the room.

For short stays of 1 or 2 nights we do studios. For longer stays we do 1 bedrooms or bigger (even though there are just 3 of us, we often invite friends.)

We have an Owner's Locker and cook a lot in the room -- almost every breakfast, and lunch or dinner every day. (We do either lunch or dinner in a park too.) Really cuts down on the dining bill.

We are a family of three as well and we LOVE the one bedrooms! It's nice to have our own bedroom (and in the case of Kidani, our own bathroom!). The washer/dryer is awesome for us, less stuff to pack when flying and you don't have to haul it to the laundry room. And having the full kitchen is nice, sometimes we hang out at the resort and don't like to go out to eat.

We will book a studio if just staying for a night or two (like before a cruise) but for our week long or more trips we do one bedroom all the time.

There are three of us as well with a daughter. We've done both studios and 1 bedrooms and while the 1 bedrooms are great, I don't feel that they are worth double the points of the studio. We don't really make much use of the kitchen and having laundry isn't a big deal either. And the third person still has to sleep on a sofa-bed. The most useful thing in the 1 bedroom is having a second TV!

we stay in one bedrooms, we cook breakfast and some other meals to save some money, I also like having the laundry facilities and it's good if someone wants to get up early or go to bed early.

I'm still split on this one and haven't figured out if the pros outweigh the cons. 1 bedroom is great for privacy, or if someone likes to sleep in. I found my kids seemed to get along better with more space. Jacuzzi tub is nice, doing laundry was great!!! But double the points can mean having to skip a trip and who wants to do that????

Me! I'd rather have one trip with enjoyable accommodations than two trips wishing I had booked the 1BR. And typically it is just DW & I these days. But I totally get those who enjoy studio stays...in fact they are in the majority based on booking availability. I do think at some point they may re-allocate points between studios and 1BRs to bring them closer together...especially in those resorts (VWL & BWV) where the studio sleeps 5 and the 1BR sleeps 4.

For us the whole point of DVC is the 1 and 2 bedrooms we are not interested in studios.

We don't really cook in the kitchen we do do breakfast and snacks and always have drinks in the room. We also do some hot dogs or frozen pizza. We also feel the in room laundry is essential and the King masters are wonderful

We are also a family of three and we always book studios. We don't need the kitchen as we do not cook in the room, we can do laundry in the guest laundry and we are only ever in the room to sleep. For us, we would rather stay longer or go more often and spend less points on a studio. As said above, it is really about your family's vacation style. If you have a tendency to stay around the resort and want the flexibility of cooking your meals, then I would say go for a 1 bedroom.

Same as Minniesgal. The only reason we bought DVC was so everyone could have their own bed in their own room. I would rather go less often and opt for a bigger room. We don't cook meals but love having a kitchen for the large refrigerator and stove to heat left overs.

After years of having our own laundry I never want to do without it. So much time wasted at the laundry room.

For us, the 1 bedroom is why we bought into DVC. Before DVC, we preferred to stay at places like Homewood Suites which has a smiliar (but not as nice) layout. This is why we prefer the 1 Bedroom.
1. King bed in the master
2. Kids sleep in a seperate room. They go to bed before 8:00 even on vacation. And we are scarred from DS5 having colic and feel like our kids are light sleepers. They really aren't, haha!
3. Kitchen area. We don't cook much. In fact, we cooked at Aulani, but never have on a theme park vacation. But, I like having the space to eat a simple breakfast or snack.
4. 2 bathrooms (at some properties, one being VGC where we normally stay). In planning our WDW trip, two bathrooms was a priority for DH
5. Laundry. We could probably live without this, but it's a nice perk!
6. Two beds in the family room area- sofabed and pull down. The kids have their own beds. I'm not sure this is all properties either.... But it was the case at VGC and Aulani.

We do think in a couple years, we may hit a nice sweet spot where studios work for us for short 2-3 night trips. We are thinking when the kids are between 6-9ish. They won't need to crash so early, will stay in bed better and not mind sharing a bed. But even with those ages, longer than 3 nights, wended our space!

OKW has a very good (and fast--watch your head at the end, water slide). I would try a studio and see how you like it. We make some easy food in the studio, frozen breakfast burritos, buy a rotissiere chicken (eat hot 1 meal with microwave bags of 1. steamed veggies and 2. rice), then cold on bag of salad the next day. DD likes spaghettios in the room, cheese heated on tortillas, etc. If you find you really want to cook more, want to do laundry in your unit, have 2 TVs, more privacy, then it's time to move to a 1BR. But, when our kids were under 12, a studio worked fine. Also, if you are spending a lot of time in the parks, no need for the larger place.

The two big reasons we do 1 bedroom over studio
Jacuzzi tub
In room washer and dryer
The kitchen is nice but when it's just the two of us we eat out instead of cook

When our kids were younger we always did a 1 Bedroom. We could put them to sleep without us having to have the lights off and whispering. Having the living room to enjoy downtime and spread out was nice. We rarely if ever cook but use the kitchen for breakfast etc. and would take advantage of the full size fridge and freezer for snacks/drinks etc...

It was also nice in the AM if were out late we could let the kids sleep while we got ready.

We always go with studios. It just depends on what your preferences are. Plus, don't the one bedrooms have full kitchens? We haven't stayed in a one bedroom yet.

Yes, we love the full kitchen so you get a full size refrigerator. Those little ones won't even hold our beverages much less snacks.
