can anyone answer a question I have:

In a studio, can 3 adults, a 4 yr old, a 2 yr old, a 3 month old.....fit? And be allowed?

I realize it would be tight....but I'm thinking of asking my sister and her newborn to come along on a short trip we have planned this month....she is so down lately....she needs a little magic!::MinnieMo

Questions about room occupancy often inspire debate here, and thus this thread will no doubt be closed down.

Suffice it to say that the rules state that you can have four adults and one child under 3 years old in a studio (or a 1BR).

6 in a studio, doesn't seem reasonable to me. I sure wish DVC would enforce the occupancy rules already in place. They will not do a bed check so you will need to decide for yourself.

As stated, occupancy is 4 plus one child under 3. I personally would hardly count the 3 month old, but I would NOT want to be in that room! Besides being too crowded, it would hardly be a vacation for any of you. Even if you were at OKW, you would have very little room to move around with a pack and play for the infant and two youngsters plus an adult in the other bed.

I can't see how anyone would get good sleep...especially the 3 month old w/ the toddlers running around. IMHO you wouldn't have a very good vacation at all.

Occupancy aside...

I agree, I don't thnk you'd be comfortable in a studio. 3 adults and 3 kids, even though one is an infant, is a lot of folks to be thrown together for a trip, no matter how large the accomodations are.

Having stayed at a studio at OKW just recently I know you would be cramped cramped cramped. This is more designed for a family of 2 adults and 2 young children. I cant imagine having 4 adults staying there. For your sane peace of mind on your trip "DONT DO IT" .

Thanks for all of the input!
I'm going to consider a 2br for our fall trip.....that should be better!

I'm just new to all this as my DW and I consider all the benefits of joing DVC (waiting for that massive info pkg in the mail!) and was just thinking -- especially in a case such as this one presented -- it's too bad there isn't something available between the Studio and the 2BR that would be more flexible. The 1BR does't open up anymore sleeping space (still only room for 4 in beds and the sofa) -- something like a studio attached to the living room/kitchen of the 1BR/2BR would be ideal in this case -- or am I thinking nonsense?

A studio that connects off the living room of a 1 bedroom is what they call a 2 bedroom lockoff, so no, your not crazy at all. It exists, sometimes it's just once you go over 4 people the only option is a 2 bedroom which is a big jump in points

Remember this is a timeshare. The 2 BR is the item for more than 4 people. I'm sure DVC wants people to use the larger room and buy the higher points to do so. We've had the family of 5 discussion many times and also on the cruise board. There doesn't need to be an in between option. Many timeshare limit studios to 2 or 3 people so even the four there is a stretch with all but OKW. Many also consider the occupancy listings as hard limits, expect DVC to do this at some point.

I would at least get a 1 bedroom and put all the kids with and your sister in the living room. Sister and 2 kids on sofa couch and baby in crib. The kitchen and the washer and dryer would be nice to have nearby.
Studio, no way, the kids are to young to be that crowded.

I don't really know much about the rules for how many are allowed in the rooms. There seems to be a lot of different information (and I have never asked directly since our family is made up of 4 and all the units have worked for us).

If you go with a 1 bedroom, then you may want to get an inflatable bed. That way everyone will have a place to sleep.

You may want to look into 2 studios instead of a 2 bedroom is you want to save on points. The 2 bedroom units are very nice though. We had one at HH (only unit that was available) for our family of 4 and we just LOVED it. I wish we could afford more points so we could always have the larger units!

You could also look at the points for the FW Cabins. That is what we are going to do in December when my sister comes with us (making us a party of 5). We really want to try out the cabins too, so it works out. We camped there once in a tent and the kids just loved the campfire program at night (which is free) and they have bike trails and well.....it is just beautiful over there!

Anyway, just some thoughts. We also considered using our points at the PO resort since they have a trundle bed that allows you to sleep 5 in a room (and maybe 6 with a crib, I'm not sure, you would have to ask). The PO option is less points than the FW cabins, but we thought it would be nicer to have my sister in a seperate area (living room murphy bed). The cabins only have 1 bathroom though, the the 2 bedroom units do have 2 bathrooms.

Good Luck!

A cabin during regular season would be 258 points for a week. A 2 bedroom unit at OKW that same time would be 232 points. Not sure why you wouldn't want the larger 2 bedroom unit over the cabins for less points.

I guess we want to try out the cabins and we like having the 'space' to go for walks and go to the campfire programs at night. They also have the night time electric water parade you can view by the water.

But the 2 bedroom unit would be nicer because you would have 2 bathrooms and a washer/dryer (which is wonderful!).

We are going on Dec. 23 and 24 and the FW cabin is actually less points than a 2 bedroom for those two days because on Dec. 24 it is a Friday at holiday season and the points go out of the roof on that day!!!

AHA! Good points! Our SIL and fam. stayed there a few years ago and loved the embiance, but didn't care for the long bus waits.

Yes, the bus waits at FW is probably the worse part of it. We are only going to be there for 2 nights, so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

We would actually like to 'try out' all of the resort options at WDW at some point, and the cabins are high on our list of places to try. Each resort option seems to have it's own special offerings.
