Struggling with figuring our tips.

We are going with the deluxe dining plan for 8 nights in January and I am trying to figure out how much tips will run us. Anyone care to share what the normal tip expediture is.

We are typically a party of 6+ -- so an automatic 18% (although I usually tip 20%- so it is a bargain ).

We haven't used the dining plan since they removed the tips.

We just returned and were a party of 5. Our tips ran at least $50 a TS meal. They actually give you tip suggestions at the bottom of the bill at 18% and 20%. I do know that the bill says they will automatically at an 18% tip for large parties (6 or more). So figure at least $60 a TS meal, probably will be more depending on meal and drink costs.

I actually budgeted our tips before I left, as well. The problem with budgeting your tips prior to leaving is knowing kind of what people will eat. What I did was budget on the high side, using menus with pricing from either Wdwinfo.com or Allears.net. Then I just calculated the 18% (mine was actually 20% too.) and came up with a number. Then we included the tips figure into the overall budget.

Now we didn't go Deluxe. We did the Regular plan, because I didn't want to have ADRs for lunch or breakfast. That would be too regimented for our family. So since we only had ADRs for dinner, it was easy to calculate the tips. And we were not off by that much. We actually calcuated more than what we needed by less than $5, though.
