Anyone know of a good strong brand of trash bags? I don't remember if they are hefty or glad, but when I was just in the basement changing the litter box the DARN bag split! So then I had to start double-bagging trash. Has anyone used the "contractor" bags they sell at Home Depot? I wonder if they are stronger and worth the extra $$$?

I know...not an earth-shattering question, just wondering...

I only use the contractor bags from Home Depot. I've had too many regular bags split open on me (literally onto me usually) and I decided that I'd try out the contractor bags about 8 years ago. Since then I've only used them. Price wasn't really a factor for me since I usually only have one bag a week of trash. It has made trash day ALOT easier.

The thickness is listed on the box of bags and I get the ones that are the thickest. I think the current ones I have are Glad contractor bags but the thickness of each brand has changed at times so just go for the thickest ones.

So try them out. The worst that will happen is that yuo will switch back.

Yes and they are worth it.

Look at the size of the bag, it's on the carton. Look at the mils. The higher the mils number, the thicker the plastic. I think the thickest available is about 3. I don't have a carton around to check. . . but those found at a home center can be stronger than ordinary Hefty or Glad bags available at discount stores and supermarkets.

Thanks for all the input...I'll check them out tomorrow.

Ya know, the DIS is a great place...you can get a lot of Disney information, but you can also get information about mundane subjects like trash bags! :)

Thanks for all the help!!!

I use Hefty all the time and have never had one split.

Believe it or not, I use Stop and Shop's store brand contractor bags, which I find are stronger than any of the name brand bags.

For those of you who are not Northeasterners, Stop and Shop is a big chain up here.
