I am taking my dd and niece by myself in Dec. and am thinking about renting a double stroller. They are both about 65-70 lbs each. Will that be too heavy for me to push? Or am I better off just getting a single and having them take turns? TIA!

ok first of all it is friday and i read that too fast and thought you said your dad and neice. :rotfl2: I'm not sure what the exact weight limits are but in 08 we rented double for our 2 that were 3 and 6 at the time and about 100 lbs combined and it was rough for me to push it (we don't stroller at home, not then and definately not now). I can't imagine another 50lbs on top of that. So DH got stuck pushing alot. This time it was DS only in an mbrella and at 40lbs much more managable.

Personally I think that is too much to push around all day.. they aren't little kids.. that is about 130-140lbs of weight you will be pushing.. your back will hurt after a few hours...if not sooner...

That is a lot of weight my goodness! for what so you will be dead at the end of the day and they will be jumping on the bed?
At those weights I'm assuming they are both in school and are perfectly capable of walking especially if it is only the 3 of you. You can all walk and take breaks if needed and walk at a comfortable speed for all three. the 2 girls will pace each other.

Plus if you are the only adult do you really want to be bothering maneuvering a stroller and a child thru crowds on and off transportation and parking and retrieving it all day? I sure wouldn't!

I would have both walk and not get a stroller at all.

I just checked the Orlando Stroller Rentals website and the double strollers they rent have 100 pound capacities. At the weights you indicated those kids should be old enough to walk the parks all day.

If they're of average weight for their age they're probably 9 or 10 years old, I'm guessing? If so, I'd advise you to consider not getting any strollers. Aside from being unusual to see (unless they have some sort of medical condition), it's pretty unnecessary for older children to get pushed around and takes up a lot of space... and a lot of effort on your part.

If you're set on getting one, just get a single. That is too much weight for a tandem/double stroller.

No way would I push a stroller with 130 - 140 lbs in it. I weighed that much in the 5th grade and would have been mortified if anyone even suggested that I should ride in a stroller since I stopped riding in one by the age of 4. If it is necessary, I would do the single stroller.

I agree, how old are they? DD is almost 9 and 60+ lbs.

DD is 7 and niece is 8. DD is about 60-65 lbs, but is tall for her age. I am just guessing niece's weight but I could be wrong. She is older but shorter than DD. I guess I will just have them walk. I just thought it might be easier to have them contained in a stroller since I am going with them by myself, but I guess they are too old.

Nah two little girls are perfect for containment you can either hold hands one on either side of you or they can hold hands together like in a crowd with you behind or in front. Girls that age have no problem holding each others hands they do it naturally , now don't try that with 2 boys........

They are also old enough to stay with you and follow instructions, it actually is a nice age to take kids.

Since they changed out the strollers a few years ago, the double strollers became smaller. I doubt if your daughter and niece will fit in one together.

Oh you'll be fine.

We used a stroller for DD when she was 5 because she would get tired. We didn't go for 6. At 7, she would have been mortified, besides she has way more energy than her parents so really she should be pushing US in a stroller. LOL!

I know it's like blasphemy around here to suggest it, but the girls will be fine without a stroller. We didn't take strollers the year my kids were 4 & 5, and they did fine without them. We did start walking 30-60 minutes a night to prepare everyone for the trip.

There's no way I would push and maneuver a stroller with 130+ pounds in it everyday when the kids are perfectly able to get themselves around.

I walked just fine when I went to Disney World when I was 9 and that was my first and only time going, same with my siblings. I think my sister was the only one who was in a stroller, and she 4 was at the time. My brothers didn't use one and they were 6 and 7.

They are definitely too old to be in a stroller. As long as you stop to sit down when they get tired and don't push them, they should be fine. Have fun! :)

Shoot, they will probably outlast the OP and want her to keep going and going like an Energizer Bunny. ;)

Those strollers at Disney are sooooo easy to push no matter what the weight and I for one will be getting a double stroller. For one because I have a four year old and another because my DD7 has behavioral issues and it will be a good idea for her to have a place to go if she is overwhelmed. She also gets extremely tired walking around all day. Do what feels right for you. Don't let people make you feel guilty. There really is no hassle when parking it and retrieving it.;)

My kids are going to be 4.5 and 6 on our next trip and I would love to do it stroller-free! Just wondering... how long before your trip did you get them walking each night to prepare?

We ditched the stroller at 4 for my daughter and she did fine walking and keeping up but we take afternoon breaks to swim and rest so when we went back in the evening she was ready to go. On our next trip my son will be 3 almost 4 and we are not planning on a stroller but will rent one if needed. He hates riding in one now so even if I did bring one he probably would not be riding in it.
Oh and for the poster who said strollers are no problem to park or retrieve has obviously never been when it is crowded because it is a HUGE pain!!!!

We started about a month before our trip with the walks - it was super fun to discuss the trip, get some exercise, and build some endurance. They loved it, and it was good for all of us (we even made dad go with us every night!)

A bit of warning - we did stick to their normal schedule while at WDW that year - only saw fireworks twice (MK & EPCOT). They were early to bed, early to rise at home, and that's what we did at WDW, too. We also ate at their typical times as well as taking an afternoon break for an hour or 2 to hang out at the pool or rest in the room. We got through an 8 night trip without any meltdowns, and it was very enjoyable.:thumbsup2
