Stroller Wars

IMHO, yes you are worried with very little cause. In fact I would bring 2 with kids that age. Keep valuables in an easy to grab back pack (Diaperbag). Hopefully you are staying with Disney and can just have purchases sent back to you hotel for you. Otherwise you can have them waiting at the gate for you.

If you cant live with the idea of anything happening to your fave stroller, consider the cost of renting. I highly reccommend that inexpensive on by Graco that comes with a big basket and cup holders.

I use flourescent tape on the handle of mine so i can spot it at a distance. I'd would hazzard to guess its a theft deterant too because it cant be spotted so easily.

We had our personnal stroller stollen at Disney. I say "lock it up!". As long as a CM can move it, locking them together or locking up a wheel so that someone can use it will deter someone from taking your stroller from home. Just don't lock the stroller to an item like a fence or tree so that they/it can be moved if necessary by a CM.

On our trip in Dec. I am even going to lock up the wheel or something on our rental so I don't have to "steal" someone elses when mine is "accidentally" taken. (Personally, I think most rental strollers are taken by people who were to cheap to rent one and now they have a tired kid and so they just take one, forcing that person to take someone elses, which just starts a whole bad cycle that I do not want to be a part of, or go back to the rental place for a new one.)

So sorry that happened. You are the 1st person I have ever heard having a stroller stolen out of 100's. Even with good odds, one is one to many. However I still am not concenred about it. It is still worth it to me to have the comfort of my own stroller then renting (and paying for the $) The money we have saved on not renting as added up to pay for all my strollers (and as I said, they are mostly higer ened ones.) I do make sure our name is on it a number of places. (I put adress lables on it and write in perminat markers too.)

curious though? What kind was it and when and where was it?

Ours was about $75 one, I don't remember the brand, but it was basically brand new (I bought two of them just for our Disney trip in Oct. 2003) with reclining seats, sunshade, adjustable handles, and a basket below and behind the seat. We had them parked ouside of Shutters at the CBR the second night of our first vacation with the kids, then ages 4 and 2. When we came out from dinner, there was only one.

I agree it is nice to have your own stroller. On our next trip (this last Jan.) we brought the remaining stroller and the $20 Target one that the Manager of CBR had been nice enough to obtain for us when ours was stollen back in '03. Because of our experience, I bought a U-shaped lock from Walmart and we would lock the strollers together whenever we parked them. I even locked a sturdy totebag with our jackets inside sometimes to the stroller, too, to make sure no one could take our jackets or the bag (it was pretty chilly the week we were there.)

So, I still recommend locking your stroller from home, because of our awful experience. It only takes a few seconds to lock and unlock, no CM's ever said anything to us about not locking them or that they couldn't move them, and they did on occasion, and it sure gave me peace of mind.

We are renting this year because our kids are too big for a typical stroller and I know the park stroolers are able to hold much larger kids and we will need something for them to take turns relaxing in.
