Stroller Recommendations

Ok, I wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation and what you would recommend. I have a 6 month old that we're taking so a stroller is a must but I also have a 6 year old that thinks she's going to want to "put her feet up" from time to time.

I of course had a stroller/carseat combo for the baby but have been looking into the doubles. We went to BabiesRUs and found a tandum that "could" work but the seats are a little shallow. I've also been on Amazon reading a million reviews on strollers that look great but aren't in the stores to try.
Anyone have suggestions on brands or trips with similar kids and what worked?

Last option is to rent one for my 6 year old when we get there (we have a ton of family going so pushing will be no problem) but I just thought I'd ask to see if there are any who have been in this type of situation and what has worked...strollers they have used...or ideas I haven't thought of yet!

We have a Phil and Ted's e3....our kids are 3.5 and 1.5. It converts from doubles to single stroller, so that may be good for you since you 6 year old might not use it a lot.

Otherwise, if your older is mostly going to be walking, and will stand to to rest, I'd look into a Peg Perego P3. It has a toddler step. Or you could look into buying a toddler step to add onto an existing stroller. They're available at One Step Ahead.

If you have a Disney Visa, you get 2 free stroller rentals per day. You could bring the stroller for your baby and just rent one for your 6 year old if they get tired.

I know way too much about strollers due to extensive research. My boys are 3.5 and 1.5 years old. We have a zooper tango SBS (side by side) and it's great if you need to use the infant carrier. It is an awesome, very sturdy and well made stroller. This last trip to DL we bought the Inglesina twin swift SBS. I love this stroller. The kids can jump in and out on their own and are able to sleep comfortable when they want. The seats recline for this. I prefer this double over my other now because it has 6 sets of wheels, which distributes the weight difference nicely. The zooper tango only has 4 sets of wheels which make pushing a little harder because you have to make up for the difference in weight.

We also have the Peg Perego Pliko P3, that someone mentioned above. It is a single stroller with all the bells and whistles on it. The best part about it is the toddler running board on the back. My son hops up and doesn't have to walk. But I don't know the weight on it, a six year old may be too heavy as it is only a thick plastic. We also put the seat at a recline level and they both can fit in the seat. I have only done this on a few occasions when DS 1 gets tired and doesn't want to walk.

I personally am not a fan of tandem strollers so I don't know too much about them. Maybe you can look at a sit and stand?? But to my knowledge when teh seat is reclined there isn't a whole lot of room in the back for the older child.

You can also rent a stroller if you need one. Good luck!

If you can rent one there, because you won't need a side by side, I would do that.

When we had our newborn, I did buy a sit and stand. I LOVE IT! We took it to Disneyland. I ended up putting the baby in a sling and my two boys were pushed around on the stroller. This is the one I have:

My boys use it all the time though to sit or stand when we take the baby. Nice part is, you can put the baby carrier in it and strap it down OR you can strap the baby in.

Pros- lightweight, fits in the van w/groceries, my children love it. I love the fact I can get around stores easily.
Cons- no cup holder, small on storage space underneath

My understanding is that tandem strollers are a real hassle in the park, being very large and hard to maneuver. We brought one stroller with us, reasoning that we'd rent a 2nd stroller on an as-needed basis for DS6. That would likely be in the evening, so lugging around 2 strollers all day (or a huge double-wide) seemed like a lot of hassle for nothing.

As it turned out, DS2 was eager to be up and about for short periods of time, and DS6 would hop into the stroller when it was free. This surprised me when it was in the morning or mid-day, but I figured it would just save his energy for later, no problem. We went at a 'value' time when the parks were closing at 8pm, so the boys easily lasted all day at the park, especially on the days we'd gone back to the hotel for nap and pool time.

As for a stroller recommendation, I did buy a new one before our trip, making sure it would be able to carry DS6, who was around 44 lbs at the time. The MacLaren was one of the few brands made for this upper weight range, and we've been very pleased with our purchase.

If you can find a sit & stand that accomodates a 6yo, that might be a good option. If I had a baby, I think I'd bring a single stroller and a baby carrier (like a Baby Bjorn, can be stowed in the bottom of the stroller) to carry the baby when your DD6 needs a break.

I say the Baby Trend sit n' stand. We took it for our last trip when I had a 3yo and 3 month old. it was great. Even with them being older a bigger now. 4yo and 45 lbs. 15 months and 24 lbs. it is still really easy to push and I have no problem. there is still room for the 4 yo to sit when the younger one is reclined back. When we go in June we are taking 2 strollers with us. our double for the evenings and our single for the mornings. We figured that would work the best for us. but lookintot he baby trend it is great. we have actually had 2 kids on the back and a kid in the seat and it still was easy to push. I saw the phil and teds thing...too cool!! I've researched a bit but I wasn't sure what the lbs limit was for the front or the bottom? Also, what's the bottom (attachment part) like? is there a seat? thanks for the one step ahead web info...i found lots of neat travel stuff

I have a 22 month old and a tall 5.5 year old. We went to DL a year ago and our older DD begged constantly to ride in the single stroller. Luckily my baby was small enough that I wore her a lot in my Ergo carrier with no problem so the older one could ride.

Therefore for this year I bought a used Maclaren twin off Craigslist to take with us. It was the only double stroller I could easily find that would accomodate my older DD's height and weight. I plan to resell it as soon as we return.

For us, we didn't want to rent a stroller because those kind aren't very comfy. And most importantly since we're staying at the CCI I wanted to be able to tranport our tired DD's home after the fireworks in it. It just gives us more options. We've given it a trial run and they do enjoy riding together in it.

The Maclaren's are nice. I have a single that I used last trips (for my then 5 year old) and it sat nice for her. I COULD bring that again but just thought a double something would be better? What KIND of Maclaren twin did you get? Was it easy to push such a weight difference?

Thanks for the tips...I've tried to interest my 6 year old in the sit n stand bec I KNOW she's not going to be sitting much...but she thinks she needs a "stroller seat" Many of which are either too shallow or not hold her weight well???? I'm going to keep trying bec I think that will be the best as well.

That actually makes the most sense...I was planning on bringing the carrier for the rides anyway so why not when the 6yo gets a little tired just take the baby out...duh on my part and cheaper...hehehe!! I really think once we're there she's going to be too excited and JUST FINE!!!

Glad to see you are figuring out a solution that is fine for you. Another factor is how long you will be there and what your family's goals and style is. If you like to run and get everything in and will be there for a short time then the stroller is also nice for fast transport.

I think I have a Twin Traveller. It is heavy to push but on nice flat terrain handles just fine and supposedly a lot better than other doubles. I figure I will come back and sell it for about what I paid for it ($200) or a little less. We're going for 6 days so I figure I would have spent more money total on renting at the end of each day. (We don't have the Visa.) For some reason I like having my own stoller. It's like a personal space or oasis when travelling.

But I think the single stroller and baby carrier idea will work great and you can always rent another. A friend of mine just ended up buying an umbrella stoller while there and that was cheap, too!

Weight limit for the 2nd seat on the e3 is 35 pounds....so the little one would need to sit in the back.

For what it's worth, i had a sit n' stand and hated it. Hard to push. I sold mine after about 2 weeks of trying to love it.

When DS#2 was 9 months, I carried him around in the Ergo all day (do you have one of these - they're soooooo comfortable for carrying baby around in) and we had the single for DS#1, who was just 3 at the time. When DS#1 would hop out to walk for a bit, we'd put baby in the stroller so he could get a change of scenery (I front-packed him so he only got the rear-facing view).

I would just rent a stroller. They are really pretty nice to push around, they have a nice sunshade, you won't have to hassle with folding them to get on and off the tram, or into the car, or the shuttle, etc., and they give you a receipt that lets you go to any of the stroller locations to pick up a new one if you need it. The $10 is well worth it, because it is so much less of a hassle than bringing your own stroller or pushing a double through the park.

We had a Peg Pereggo Double (Side by Side) Umbrella stoller that worked really well for us. It is very skinny. I have seen these attachements you can buy in the stores now that connect 2 umbrella strollers together to make them side by side. That might be a good solution.

Just got back yesterday; first time to DL for that matter first time in California. We have the Dis Visa and it may be the best deal ever. Renting it at DL is the best way to go even if you dont have the Visa. We pushed our 3 and 7 year olds thru the whole park. Your 6 year old may think she can walk the parks, but trust me she will be in the stroller 90% of the time. They are nice, canopy, little thing on the bottom for storage, and a 3 wheeler.
