Hi all :) I'm planning on going to WDW for a week in December with my two children who will be 7 and 1 years old at the time of travel. It will be just me and the two of them on this trip. I need advice as what to do about the stroller situation. I will definitely need a stroller for my 1 year old but I also wanted to have somewhere for my daughter to sit as she tires easily and I know she wont make it through the day without needing to sit and rest. Since she will be 7 years old I'm having a hard time finding a stroller that she will comfortably fit into. My other dilemma is that I wont be able to push 2 strollers by myself but don't want a big bulky double stroller either.. I'm completely lost as to what I should do! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Just get double stroller at park. I ad a 7 and 2 year old last trip. Was perfect. Perfect to hold stuff but give kids a place to relax. It is a lot of walking and my 7 year old tires too. Makes day way more enjoyable for them and parents. I'll do anything to avoid whining. And I don't ever leave park to nap then come back. Waste of time.
Some times they nod off in stroller.

Yes that does seem like the best option for the two of them. When I took my daughter at 3 years old we didn't leave the parks for naps either she just slept in the stroller. I'm just wondering how comfortable it will be for my 1 year old to nap in the rented strollers.. they look really hard and uncomfortable. Did you have a pillow or blankets or anything for your kids when you used one?

I would just bring a single stroller or rent a single stroller and bring a baby carrier (if you have one). Use the stroller for the baby. If walking is too much for your 7 year old, she can take a break in the stroller and you can wear the baby for a few hours. Your other alternative is renting a double stroller. While you older daughter would probably fit well in the strollers rented by Disney, you younger one probably won't be too comfortable. They are hard plastic and don't recline.

Maybe a sit n stand? I used this with my then 16 month old and 6 year old and it worked really well. I don't think the ones at the park would b very comfortable for the 1 year old. They're just stiff hard plastic.

Having to fold a double stroller (or even a sit and stand) for the trams or buses is too much for one person with a one year old and 7 year old. You're going to have to hold the baby while boarding the bus or tram, and you'll also have to hold the stroller since the 7 year old is too young.

I wouldn't rent. If you want the baby to have any chance of sleeping in the stroller, you need a soft one that reclines. I'd take a good stroller that is lightweight and folds small so that you can handle both the baby and the stroller on transportation, plus I'd take a carrier, like an Ergo. You'll need that for lines anyway. If your daughter really needs a place to sit, she can do it in the stroller, but it will be hard to push it, especially with a 1 year old strapped to your chest. There are plenty of longer attractions (3D movies, Universe of Energy, etc.) at WDW. You might find it easier to go to one of those attractions and then have a snack or something if she's tired rather than having her ride around in a stroller.

I would do a single stroller with a carrier if you don't want to deal with a double. I think a baby carrier for a one year old is helpful regardless of what stroller you take since you can wear them in lines and on/off buses. My daughter was almost two when we went and I still loved having a baby carrier for her. I personally hate my sit and stand and would find pushing a 7 year old very difficult in it since all the weight is in front of you.

I would not rent a park stroller for a one year old. They are big and hard and just not what you need for a baby. I would bring a lightweight single stroller that is easy to fold and bring a nice carrier. When your 7 year old needs a break, you can carry the baby. You can go at her pace and take rest and maybe she wont need to ride for long periods of time. It may be very helpful to stress to her you will need her help in the park and be sure she understands that she may have to skip some rides unless you are comfortable with her waiting in line and riding along, something I would not be ok with doing though some people might be.

My dd had somewhat of the same dilemma with her two, and she got one of the sit and stands. It was perfect! Her older one could relax when he was tired, but yet the stroller was no larger than one single - a great option!

Our kids will be 6 1/2 and 10 mos. I did a ton of reading and have decided on our single and a carrier. I anticipate YDS riding in the stroller the majority of the time, popping into the carrier if ODS needs a break. Between rides, eating breaks, shows, I think he will get enough sitting breaks to not need the stroller much. Plus, we do not intend doing open to close. I'd rather miss some things and have happy, rested kids than see everything but have crazed, exhausted kids.

What about a glider board (like a skateboard that snaps onto the back of the stroller) for your 7yo? She couldn't sit, but she could get a rest from the walking. I have no idea what it would be like to push a 7yo on one. I suppose it depends on her size and probably yours, too. (ie if you are not very tall, it might be awkward.) I have had friends who've had them, but I don't know how well those fold up either...

I would get a sit and stand type stroller -- not the Babytrend one, it's awful, but Joovy makes a great one, and Graco has a nice one, too. Check CraigsList for a used one to save $. I would bring a carrier, too. You'll need the carrier in long lines and it would be useful getting on the bus wearing the baby and carrying the stroller. You can hold a baby and a stroller on the bus -- I've done it many times.

Are you really going to need a stroller for the 7 year old?

You mentioned she was 3 the last time you went, so maybe you're underestimating her ability to do a Disney trip without a stroller? The last time we brought a stroller was when my youngest was 4 1/2. I brought it "just in case" since we were driving and had room. My plan was to try mornings and get the stroller during our afternoon break in case he needed it for the evening. 10 park days and the stroller never left the car. We do enjoy taking breaks though. Rope drop to close would be miserable for us otherwise.

That said, if you still feel you need something maybe a Maclaren stroller? I believe they hold kids up to 65lbs, they are easy to push, and easy to fold with one hand (a must if you are using the busses and holding a baby). I would use one stroller with a carrier for the baby. A double stroller is going to be a pain for a solo parent on the busses and I would think it would be difficult to push with the uneven weight between the two kids.

Yes that's a great idea! I do have a baby bjorn and it never even crossed my mind to have the baby in the carrier! Thank you for the suggestion :)

I had a sit and stand briefly but ended up returning it to the store.. When I had the car seat attached to the stroller my daughter didn't fit on the back seat very comfortably. I also didn't like the way that it didn't stand on its own when folded up.. it's a shame though because I love the concept of it

Yes the thought of trying to hold the baby and also fold a double stroller and still carry the diaper bag and all of our stuff is scary! I really want to avoid a double stroller if I can.. Like a previous poster said the baby carrier is a wonderful idea :) And your right about the rental strollers.. after looking more closely at them they definitely wont be comfortable AT ALL for the baby, also they only have a lap belt which wouldn't work for him. Taking a break at a longer attraction is also a great idea and I will definitely do that!

Yes I explained to her that she wont be able to go on certain bigger rides when we get to the parks. She was very understanding and is also very willing to help with her baby brother :)

Hmm the glider board sounds neat! I'll have to look into that more and see if it would work for us, thanks for the suggestion :)
