Stroller on Plane

I am thinking of purchasing a new stroller for my son and was wondering if i bought the Jogging stroller can they be gate checked at the airport. These seem to be the only ones that can hold a 60 pound child. Thanks

I don't think it would be a problem, as long as you can fold it. I've seen people check those really big double stroller (full sized ones, not umbrella type) with no problem.

If you have to remove the wheels to fold it properly, then be prepared with a tote bag big enough to hold the wheels; you will have to take them as one of your carryons and put them in the overhead bin. The rest of the stroller can be gate-checked with no problem.

You COULD gate-check the wheels, too, if you put them in a sturdy duffel, but the odds of getting both pieces back at the same time are not really good; anything that looks like luggage usually ends up on the baggage wagon for the carousels, even if it has a gate tag.

I belive you can purchase a stoller bag for your jogging stroller. I think they run about $39. We have to order one our stroller this year. This past January while traveling from Boston to DC, Delta broke our brand new stroller and had to replace it. They were not very happy about it either, but I did not care it was a brand new stroller and my son needed it. Any way we said that we would from now on, if flying would have a stroller bag to give the stroller cushion to prevent it from getting broke again.

We keep our Safari TT stroller in the original box. My sons dont use it at all at home, but it works great for us at WDW.

We flew AA a couple of weeks ago and curb checked the stroller box and all! We left the box open in case they needed to inspect inside and after they verified it was just a stroller, they taped it up.
This worked out great coming and going and the AA check-in agent said they don't additional for strollers. (mine wasnt oversized or overweight but good to know)

The stroller is a 3 wheel jogger style and the wheels are quick release so its very easy to assemble. We had a rental car (Chevy Impala) and the box fit in the trunk, so that's where we kept it.
