Stroller as wheelchair

We arrived back from the world last night. My little's blood glucose levels remained HIGH the entire time there but came back to normal once we began traveling yesterday.

I had read on here about getting the use of stroller as a wheelchair. We didn't at first because I carried insulin contained in a frio bag in my fanny pack along with a meter. We were standing in line for June and the CM would not allow Mallory to stay in the stroller with a cover to be out of the sun. We were told she would have to get out and stand. At first I was upset but understood her logic. As we left, I went straight to Guest Relations and requested a ticket for our stroller. We were given one without too many questions but I did explain what happened and why we needed it.

It was a lifesaver. We did not abuse the use of it. We had fastpasses on many rides so we didn't need it for rides but mainly standing in character lines in the hot sun and when she needed to rest.

The only complaint I do have, is on the boats or monorails they wouldn't pull out the ramp for us to use. I kinda felt 2nd class then or you know, like they thought I was abusing the use of sticker.

I'm glad you had a good trip. I know sometimes you get looks or comments for taking a stroller as w/c through lines or into buildings, etc. But the way I see it, someone with a typical child who gets overheated will get a little tired and cranky. If my child gets overheated, she'll have a seizure. My little guy has a motor coordination disorder which causes his stamina to be very low, so we try to save his energy for running up to a character or participating on a playscape, etc. DD also has autism, and she needs a safe "nest". Someone just glancing at us doesn't know all this, and doesn't need to, but Disney offers families like all of ours the opportunity to be able to go to the parks at all, and to enjoy them just like other families get to do. So don't feel guilty making use of an accomodation that simply enables you to do what everyone else can do without it. Sorry about the monorail experience; we were able to get on and off by just tipping the front up, like going over a curb or something. We were going to try the boat one day, but it was pouring and they stopped running them.

Your GAC to use your stroller as a wheelchair is only valid inside a park, once you leave the park, your stroller is just a stroller like all the hundreds of other strollers transportation CM deal with. I'm glad you did get one to make your day in the park easier

IMO that is a little over the top to complain that they wouldn't go to all the extra work of getting out a ramp for a little girl who is perfectly able to walk onto the transportation! This is what gets GAC users a bad name.

Happydizney, Oh, didn't know that outside the park it didn't work. But no big deal we had great help inside the park.

Nicole, yes, my husband could do that (tipping and leaning) but when it was me by myself............. It was comical!!!! LOL

Post 6 in the FAQ sticky has lots of info on GACs, you may want to read up on it for your next trip, the FAQ does offer lots of really helpful info on lots of subjects.

Thanks. I have been on these boards for a while and still didn't think to look there. My family has been to disney 10+ times and I am still learning stuff.
