String's Atkin's Journal (Please Comment)

2004 has decided to go out with a bang. A nice ugly explosion.

Katie and I went shopping with my parents yesterday. Mom and I both found some great shirts to try on, so my Dad took Katie to Haagen Das for sorbet. You can see this one coming right? He ordered yogurt. When we headed back to the food court, we were just in time to see the EMT's intubating Katie. My Dad had the epipen with him, but forgot he had it. Katie is extubated, and doing well. She will be home tomorrow. Won is with her at Beaumont now. I of Course have to work a 16 hour shift tonight. Like Wilderness said, there are no call ins on holidays. I have already talked to my boss. I may get to go home at midnight, but we'll have to see.

I'm stressed and exhausted. I forgot to eat since lunch yesterday. All I have had is coffee. My Dad feels awful, so does my Mom. In fact, I am pretty sure things are ugly in their marriage right now because of this. I am going to have to sit my mom down and have a talk with her. I think my Dad has early dementia. Just a lot of little things I've been noticing over the last few months. That will be a fun talk.

Ok, 2005 Will Be Better!

I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year!

Beth

I am so sorry to hear your outing turning into a crisis. I'm so glad Katie is ok, but what a horrible situation for you and your Mom and Dad to face. I'm so sorry to hear you have to work such a long shift when you should be able to be with your family.

Sending warm thoughts your way,

Sundie

Oh Beth, I am so very sorry to hear about what happened yesterday.

I'm glad that Katie is doing alright but I'm sorry that you have to work and I'm sorry you have to have this talk with your mom. My prayers are with you today.

Here's to a much better 2005!

Oh Beth,

Honey, I am sending some big hugs and prayers your way. I hope that your supervisor lets you go home early this evening. Please be very, very careful on your way home since it is New Year's. I hope Katie is feeling much better soon. ::yes::

Tracy

 Oh, my gosh, woman, the Katie/Yogurt episode is bringing tears to my eyes. What an awful thing. Thank God, though, it was handled and Katie's doing better. *sigh.*

I'm joining everyone in prayer and hoping you can go home early tonight. Like Tracy said, PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY!

Love to you and a Happy New Year,
Erin

:grouphug: I'm sorry Beth. I hope Katie is feeling better and you are able to get off early. Take care of yourself and your family. Drive safely.

 Beth.

My goodness, sometimes it just never stops, does it?? Goodness! I am so sorry a nice outing had such an end. :grouphug: to you and your family. I am sure your dad feels awful, but you are right to have a talk with your mom. You can't be too careful - especially with Katie.

Sending :wizard: for a happy, healthy, uneventful, boring, stress-free (can you see where I am going with this?) 2005! Seriously, though, I wish you and yours a wonderful 2005.

Happy New Years, Beth!!

I second this. Happy New Year Beth. Get some rest.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am feeling a bit more positive today. It is a new year, and it is full of possibilities.

Katie is doing well. She is on steroids, so she is bouncing off the walls, but at least she is doing better with her asthma. I did end up having to work the full 16 hours, and TOM showed up at 1130PM. I figured 2004 just needed to get one last dig in. I ended up binging at our potluck. Way too much stress, fatigue, and frustration. Way to much sugar, carbs, and fat. I did stop at midnight, and have been OP for 2005. I just woke up.

New Year's is a time for looking at ways to improve yourself, so of course I have my list too.

1.) I want to be more patient with those I love.
2.) I want to get my life more organized.
3.) I want to be included in more photos with my family and friends. (This one will be extremely difficult.)
4.) I want to make more time for my husband and I. (It is really rare for us to do something fun just the 2 of us.)
5.) I want to continue on my healthy living journey. (I say continue because I have made some pretty good strides in 2004, and I want to build on those. This wisn't a new start, it is a continuation because this struggle isn't for a day or a year, but a lifetime.)
6.) I want to stop letting others (PG) control how I feel. I want to take a proactive steps to living my life without those negative influences.

Ok, I need to pay some attention to my daughter. I WILL hit journals tonight.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Beth

Dear Beth, I'm so glad Katie is feeling better. How scary for all of you!!

You HAVE made amazing strides in 2004, in spite of some of the most difficult circumstances! You are strong, Beth, and you'll keep moving forward, treating yourself better and better each day! ::yes:: I'm hoping 2005 is a happy and wonderful year for you and your family!

 for you, princess: Beth!!

Hi Beth...

Wow girl, you sure have had a busy couple of days :earseek: I'm glad to hear Katie is doing better. Your poor Dad must have felt so bad :guilty: How old is he? My DH's grandmother has dementia and she is in her 80's now. They think she started to show signs about 10 years ago. I sometimes think I have it since I can't remember anything these days. My mother use to say it was because I had so much going on in my life  My father is 76 and is now having a hard time remembering things. I'm afraid if it gets worse, we'll have to do something (he lives by himself and takes SEVERAL medications).

Anyways, don't trip off what you ate at your potluck. You can get back on track easily enough and it sounds like you have a plan. We've all gone off our programs one way or another, but it's a new year, holidays are behind us (Thank God) and summer is enough modivation to get in shape!!

Oh, my WW mentioned that when you make your list of things to do in the new year, don't forget to put yourself at the TOP of that list. You need to take care of you :earboy2:

Beth:

I'm so sorry to hear about Katie's experience. Your poor father. I'm sure he is racked with guilt right now. I do hope that he can have an evaluation if he is feeling even the slightest bit off with memory. My Grandmother has been on the Aracep (sp?) for a couple of years now. I can't say that it makes things better, but certainly her short term memory has not gotten any worse with it...stress makes things much worse on a temporary basis. (She is almost 92 and we are exceptionally lucky that she still can put our faces with our names.)

I've had to work the holidays too...just get through it.

Its 2005 and past time for a much better year. Let's make the most of it!

-Laurie

First of all Beth, let me WISH you the best for 2005. :flower1:

Also, congratulations on all your accomplishments in the weight and inches lost dept. over the past year. You have done so much when many others would have just said forget it, my life is too crazy busy.

So it was hepatitis, not gallbladder disease...I had to laugh when I saw your pre-Christmas "to do" list. Rest and relaxation..huh? At least you snuck in naps when you could and it looks like you are healing. Don't be concerned about the deconditioning...you'll get back slowly to where you need to be. I am definitely taking it easy this time with my jogging...I don't want an injury, even though sometimes I feel I'm doing absolutely nothing, not even breaking a sweat, I know that eventually this method will pay off.

Glad to hear Katie is better. I would have freaked seeing someone intubating my DD. (Probably because that's what I do all day at work!) But at least she got treated promptly. You're under so much stress right now with work and family issues... I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

And oh yeah, where's Won's "to do" list???? Silly me, imagine that!

Hi Beth,

I'm glad Katie is feeling better. Good luck with that talk with your mom. That must be hard. Take care of yourself and have a great day. :flower1:

:worried: Oh Beth,
I hope all is well with Katie now. You must have been terrified. I'm saying a prayer right now that your 2005 is a vast improvement on 2004. You and your family really deserve a break! Please take care.

Hi All,

I am so glad that it is warm out. With all this rain we'b have 2 feet of snow. I got up early and went to the Y. It was packed. I did 40 minutes on the treaddie. There is just no way I can walk 13.2 miles at the moment. I am still planning on wallking as far as I can though. I'll also be wearing my princess hat. I took Katie to church, and then we went grocery shopping. I have plenty of good lc food in the house now. No more ecxuses. After lunch, I will wake Won up. Yes, he is still in bed at noon, the lazy git. I will take a nap, we still have to wake Katie at midnight and 6am for breathing treatments. I work 12 hours tonight. It was supposed to be 8, but they have already called to see if I would work afternoons. I won't work another double, but will work the 12. Won takes Katie to school, and I pick her up at noon. I probably won't make it to journals today. I am definately sending :wizard: to all.

Btw, i was OP yesterday, but no exercise. I WILL be OP today as well.
Have a good one,
Beth

Hi Beth - I'm glad Katie is doing better. You sound like your pulling your hair out you poor thing. Hang in there...your doing great staying OP. Keep drinking your water and get exercise when you can. Take care of YOURSELF!

Is Won sick and that's why he is still in bed until noon? If so, fine. If not he deserves a swift kick in the rear. It is his turn to help you out so you don't wear yourself out by trying to do too much again. You should be the one sleeping in since you have to work tonight/overnight. What the heck is wrong with him or should I say what is he thinking (like a man I suppose)? :earseek:

Hi Beth!

I hope that today was a wonderful day for you and that work goes well tonight.

Way to go being OP!!! A great to start to the New Year Beth!!!! :cheer2:

Take good care of you! I hope Katie is feeling better.

Tracy

Beth, promise me you won't overdo it on Sunday!! I'll also be wearing my princess hat and carrying you in my heart every step of the way! With the way you're working all weekend now, I think you should let me do the walking for both of us and you should do the resting for both of us!!

I hope today finds you feeling well and that you can get some good sleep!! :flower1:
