We have been pleased with the taste of CS food but always felt some meals were a little big for lunch on a hot day.

Try ordering a kids meal for everybody! You get (varies from park to park) a cheeseburger that is a little bigger than a Wendy's 99 cent burger, a small fry- similar to Wendy's size, and 1 more side (usually fruit/jello/cookie). It is all tasty and will not overload your belly. It comes with a small drink and costs 5 bucks.

An adult combo with a drink is close to 10 bucks.

We just got back and they never asked about the ages of those in our party.

We munched on our snacks all day except for our stops in an air conditioned restaurant. The A/C and a fresh cold drink felt good as the heat index was between 95 and 100 most of the week we were in WDW.

:sad2: Just because they didn't "ask" the ages of the kids in your party, doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.. Kind of like stuffing your kids shoes to get them to ride on the cool rides, or claiming your kid is a certain age to get them into the parks for free, or using your refillable resort mug from 2002, on each trip since.. Cheating the system and lying are a) not good behaviors to show in front of ANY child, let alone your own, and b) will ruin it for the rest of us who play by the rules when the take kids meals away because people like you bought kids meals for adults!!!!! Lying is lying. Shame on you. :sad2:

I know that this will probably get something started if it hasn't been already, but buying a childs portion of food because you cannot eat all of an adult portion does not at all compare to reusing mugs from 2002. There are many people who can not eat that much food, and especially in the hot weather. What is the differnece in buying two childs portions or one adult portion and splitting it, and I am certain that Disney would rather sell child portions of food rather than have someone bring their own snacks and sandwiches to eat. They are tryng to make a dollar stretch, and perhaps eat a little lighter during the hot weather. Sometimes I think we are all a little too critical here.

I don't see why an adult ordering a kids meal would be a problem of any kind. You're paying for the food you're going to eat. How is that wrong?

Reusing your mug, when the program said it was good for the length of your stay? Wrong. Lying about the age of your kid so they get a kids ticket? Wrong.

Ordering the food you're going to eat? Fine.

I see no problem ordering off the kids menu if you aren't that hungry. Was it wrong that I got an adult meal and split it between myself & 2 kids because 8 chicken nuggets was too much for me to eat? One year in Alfredo's they let my 85 year old great aunt order a kids portion because there was no way she was going to eat a full portion. Would you rather have all that food go to waste?

Counter Service, right? I don't think the same "provision" (at sit down restaurants) applies about kids meals at counter service places. I haven't ever seen it. I don't see where you did anything wrong.

I have gotten a kids meal at counter service places too. It certainly wasn't lying. That's harsh! There's no need to explain if there isn't a provision.

I've asked if it was okay to order a kids meal at sit down restaurants when I wasn't particularly hungry also. I've never been told no.

I agree totally. It's called a kid's meal because it's a smaller portion and comes in a cute plate. You are paying for the amount of food you are getting no matter who is going to eat it. I don't think they really care or they WOULD ask you how old the child is, or post that it is only to be ordered for children. I wouldn't do lie, cheat, or steal to save a buck, but I think this is perfectly okay.

So, should I not have just ordered a cheeseburger happy meal for myself through the McDonald's drive thru? Puh--leeze. I think it is perfectly o.k. to order a kids meal if you're not hungry enough for an adult meal. You're not cheating anyone out of any money...you are simply paying for a smaller meal!

Exactly.

I order kids meals at fast food at home because I'm on a diet so I don't need all the calories of a full adult meal, but sometimes I really want a french fry!!! It helps me control myself.

There is nothing morally wrong with buying a kids meal as an adult. Good gosh. I think Disney would rather get the $5 you spend on a kids meal than none at all.

I don't think it is cheating either. If I didn't get a kids meal, I would only order the same amount of food, which would probably wind up costing less.

You don't have to order adult combos, you can get just a burger, or just fries. Either way, Disney is getting the money for the specific product, who cares who is eating it....You are paying for a specific amount of food.

Now if they were charging child prices, but same amount of food as adult, that would be a whole other thing, and yes would be wrong.

I don't think the day is coming when WDW is going to take away the kids' meals. :rotfl:

i get kids meals too, and the main reason is so that i can get the macaroni cheese they do at disney - I love it and you cant get it in an adult size. I think as other posters have said, a lot of people dont have the same appetite because of the weather. Probably more importantly the portions are huge - on occasions DH and i would share an adult meal too!!!! Disney says that we are all kids at heart therefore there is no cheating or lying by ordering a kids meal LOL

I have noticed people on these boards get a little worked up over alot of silly things. I don't think ordering a kids meal is lying or cheating the system. I have a feeling if Walt Disney knew what it costs to come to his parks these days he would role over in his grave. His intention was to have a place where families could come together and enjoy time together, not go broke doing it. I don't think he would have a problem with adults buying kids meals.

Well, I agree w/the OP. While we were there I would purchase a kid's breakfast w/ a side of grits and split it w/my DS2.5. It was the perfect amount. We even did this once w/ a hot dog. Other times I wish I would have. Sometimes it was too much food, the adult portion, even splitting it w/DS2.5. One night we ate the roasted chicken at the resort I ordred an adult portion and child portion. The child portion would have been enough for both; we ended up wasting chicken and I never like to do that!

I asked if I could order a kids meal and that it was for myself (and I am certainly no longer a kid :lmao:) and the CM said "No problem" and entered my order. I can't eat all of the food that they give you in the adult portions and my DH wanted something that I didn't like. So the next day at a different CS place, same thing, I asked and the CM said it was fine. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something that shouldn't be done.

So it must be okay for an adult to order a child's meal at the CS places. I didn't ask at any TS places since we only ate at one of them that trip.

Trust me Disney would not be selling $5 kids meal if they were not making a profit on it! No time in the near future is Disney going to be getting rid of the kids menu!

I see nothing wrong with ordering a kids meal if that is all you are able to eat. I normally just split a meal with DH, because I prefer something different/better then a cheeseburger and fries.

Personally, and this was how I was raised, I don't order more food than I am willing/able to eat. If I don't feel too hungry, I'll order a childs meal, no problem. I don't believe in ordering heaping portion sizes and wasting food. There's plenty of people in the world that don't get to eat a stale slice of bread. What makes it okay for me to order a $10 plate of food that could easily feed 3 people, eat only a half, and throw the other half away?

To the OP: I agree with you 100%. I'm sure it costs Disney more money when people waste perfectly good food, than for someone to "cheat the system" and order only what they know they can eat.

Also, I'm sure that if the CM's had a problem with it, they'd say something.

Also x2, isn't ordering a large meal and splitting between 2 or 3 people "cheating the system"?

my sister and I ordered some kids meals on our last trip. We were starting to run low on money and it was a great way to save a little. I order kids meals at Mcdonalds sometimes so i don't see what the big deal is doing it in disney also.

I don't order kid's meals because I am an adult. I understand that those meals are tailored to, and there for, children. As an adult, I understand that I don't have to order a combo meal. I can order just an entree if I feel that is the portion size that I can eat. I personally feel that it is cheating the system, and I wouldn't do it, even if they tell me it's ok.

I'm an adult, but I don't eat large meals. A child's portion of food is sometimes better suited to my appetite. Heck, there are some 8 & 9 yr olds who can eat more than me at one sitting so I guess they can have my adult portion while I eat their kid's portion and Disney can call it even. :upsidedow

As for ordering only what you can eat - I totally agree, which is why I sometimes order child's portions, so I'm not wasting food. I like fries with my burger but according to your "logic", I should order a larger burger and forego the fries, which I enjoy and really want, because I'm an adult and the larger burger would fill me up on it's own. Ridiculous...
