Strep Throat question...

I agree about asking for free samples of antibiotics at the MD office. Just ask, it can't hurt. They're given these samples by drug reps all the time. But do go, don't put it off. I've had it, it can get pretty bad.

I was in your shoes about two years ago - sick with what i thought might be strep, but no insurance. I tried the throat sprays and vitamin C, hoping it was just a bad case of sore throat. I woke up one morning with my throat so swollen I could barely breathe and ended up going to the er. 30 minutes, and $1000 later, diagnosed and given penicillin shots. Lesson learned.

I have been sooo lucky to have both in the last 3 weeks.

I went to the Dr with the sore throat - chills, 103 fever - a mess and tested positive for strep.
10 days later i ended my amox. prescript and 24 hours after I was up with the sore throat again - so I went in for another culture and nope - I am now suffering through the viral one...

the difference.. no fever and chills this time.

whatever you do - be careful take care and I hope you feel better soon.

When I went to Target to get my perscriptions for strep- I had 3- pain, antibiotic, and one to take down my swelling. (I was leaving that night for xmas with my family, he really wanted me doped up!) It was less the $18, without insurance. I just got the bill for the clinic and it ws about $90. I had insurence for that though. But target for persciptions is super cheap! I had 875mg of amox. amd hydrocone, and prednisone- i think. Point is, they were cheap, cheap, cheap!!!

I decided to go and after 3 hours (and 190 bucks *sigh*) I had the diagnosis of Strep

Least the prescription was only 12 bucks...
