Strategy for keeping Dry on Splash Mountain

If I wasn't willing to get wet, I would stay away from rides that have a high probability of getting me wet.

We go in January, and it has been our experience that the jets are turned down early in the day and after dark, but mid day on a warm January day (80 and above) equals turned up jets. People who have posted that the back, right side can be a bad spot are correct. There is no fool proof spot for staying dry, though, as far as I can tell. Even the seats tend to be wet when you first step into the ride vehicle. We've ridden at all times of the day, and I've gotten moderately wet to completely drenched any time I have ridden it on our January trips. But, Splash is my favorite ride and I'm at the park to have fun, so I don't mind at all. My husband hates walking around wet, though, so one ride on Splash was enough for him. He won't ride it again. Luckily, our daughter takes after me in this case. Unless December is colder than January in Orlando, I expect Splash might operate similarly that month.

You could also bring a pair of flip flops and just put those on for that ride and shoes into bag so your shoes don't get wet.

We take a few disposable ponchos with us (I bought them in bulk on Amazon for next to nothing). We love Splash Mountain but don't always want to get wet in December (14 days until we arrive :)). We don't ride it too early in the day, or if there is a bit of a chill in the air and not likely to dry off easily.

You really don’t get that wet. If you are super concerned wear a poncho. It really is just a splash and within 5 minutes if anyone did get wet they will be dry.
Oh but you can - we were soaked last year on Splash - totally drenched at the foot of the big drop, then caught by the jets and also got parked on the bend with the water flooding down and splashing us all in the boat - loved it! It was September and hot so we dried out pretty quick after the ride. We tend to do the ride fairly early on in the day so as to give us plenty of time to dry off afterwards.

I was worried about that too, and don't like to get too wet. Last year, we took the advice of some on this board and other Disney boards, and asked the CM if we could ride in back. Well the CM we got was super upset that we asked that, so we decided it wasn't worth arguing about, so we rode in the front.
We didn't get wet at all. So, I don't know if the advise to ride in back is correct or not? I think it is a gamble, and just be ready to get a little wet.
My strategy? Just grab my husbands hat on the way down the hill, LOL, and he gets wet :)

What is your tried and true strategy for keeping dry on Splash Mountain?
The only way to not get wet is to use a poncho. We rode it when it opened after refurbishment on Friday, Nov 17th, and my family all got wet. Very wet. I bring a disposable, see-through poncho, that I bought at Walmart for about $1. I throw them out each day. (I use them on Splash and Kali River.) I HATE walking around wet. With the poncho I don't get wet, but beware, when you go down the fall the wind will throw your poncho hood off. I have to hold mine down.

Also, wearing clothing that is not all cotton helps. My family's shirts were all cotton blend so they dry faster than all cotton. My husband and I both wear quick-dry bottoms. I love the Eddie Bauer Horizon skort.

My family likes getting wet though so they are always hoping for a big splash.

And yes, you get wetter on the right side because the other flumes come down on that side and can splash you.

Also, sometimes the more weight in the vehicle the bigger the splash.

And just a warning...if you wear white shorts, there is a high likelihood your backside will be dirty along with wet (the seats get dirty from people standing on them to get in and out).

I’m still traumatized by the young lady who got out before me whose entire bottom was wet and brown! I hope she had a change of clothes!

I love Splash Mountain, but usually don’t ride because I don’t want to get wet. If I do ride, I wear a disposable poncho and make sure to hold it around the neck as I go down the drop so the hood doesn’t come off. I just pitch the poncho as I leave the ride. I got drenched once and was miserable for the rest of the day. I was wearing jean shorts that didn’t dry off anytime that day. So, for me it is a poncho or not ride. I don’t want the hassle of bringing a change of clothes.

When you are walking to splash mountain, and you see the entrance to the left, keep walking just a bit further until you get to the next mountain, which is also on your left. Get in that line, as the ride has no water element, and you are guaranteed to stay dry.

A poncho for sure will keep you dry. I’ve found that sometimes I get more wet from the water that is already on the seat when you load in, so we try and remember to scooch our bottoms toward the front of the seat a bit when we get in. Anytime I forget and sit all the way in, I end up with a wet bottom

The wettest I’ve ever been on a Disney ride was Splash Mountain. It was August so no real big deal. I was sitting on the right side as we just made it outside to the left of the big drop. As a boat came down the drop, a water cannon went off and I took a direct hit square on the head. I was completely soaked head to toe. No one else got wet. My kids still talk about it.

Thanks, everyone! Sounds like the back right side with a poncho. No guarantees. Has anyone ridden this a million times without a soaking? What was your strategy?
Yes. Maybe not a million but a lot. It's my favorite ride at MK. The only time we've gotten wet on was when it started to pour as we boarded the ride. We got soaked as we went around the first outdoor section. From the rain. We've never gotten more than a splash from the ride

Before we sit we place a poncho on the already wet seat THEN place a second poncho across our laps and front. Keeps us dry enough to enjoy the ride.
