Strategy for keeping Dry on Splash Mountain

You really don’t get that wet. If you are super concerned wear a poncho. It really is just a splash and within 5 minutes if anyone did get wet they will be dry.

Be lucky?

We usually don't get wet at all. But every now and then we'll catch a swell of water coming over the edge and get drenched.

You can wear a poncho, but even that can only do so much.

And I'd probably sit in the middle somewhere so I can duck down if needed. But even that won't help what might come over the sides.

Thanks, everyone! Sounds like the back left side with a poncho. No guarantees. Has anyone ridden this a million times without a soaking? What was your strategy?

We’ve never done ponchos or anything unusual, we just risk it! We’ve been damp but never really soaked, nothing that doesn’t self-dry after a bit.

We usually get through the main part of the ride pretty unscathed... then always manage to get stopped right before the little small incline towards the end with a waterfall on the right. For that reason, I sit on the left, kids go on the right! :-)

My strategy is to not ride if I don't want to get wet. Splash mountain is my favorite ride, but if I REALLY don't want to get wet, I skip it.

Ditto what others have said. Sit on the left so you don't risk getting drenched by the jets after the drop. It's nice to hear they turn these down in the winter! I always wear a poncho on this ride and literally spend the first part of the ride adjusting and re-adjusting it to make sure it is wrapped under my behind and my sides are covered. It's not just a splash, the water then seeps everywhere. I probably look like I"m completely wrapped in plastic wrap by the time the drop hits. If it weren't for DS10, I wouldn't be on that darn ride at all!

I've found that Disney cuts way back on the splashing in the colder weather. The only time I got very wet was last March during Spring Break. Our other recent trips were all in January. The easy move is to just wear a jacket or poncho like others have said. There's no perfect place to sit. Conventional wisdom on log flumes is that the water goes over the people in front and hits those in back. But I've gotten the most wet in front because the water just barely clears and hits my pants. So any strategy has issues. Regardless, it's not like the Universal rides. You usually are fine.

I have never been drenched on it - we've probably been on it approx 20 times.....but hubby has for sure!!! And son too!! I always wear a poncho. Hubby doesn't, but he doesn't mind being wet. It's a "go back to the hotel" deal breaker for me if my shoes or any underclothing gets wet. ICK! I cannot stand wearing a swamp for the rest of the day, and that's exactly what it feels like. I always slip on flip flops I bring for that ride and do exactly as the poster above -spend a full minute tucking that poncho down something good under my rear and tucking down armpit gaps to nothing. I follow the same strategy for KRR and can usually do OK with my extreme tucking, even on that ride. Another strategy that worked well on hot days was to wear shorts and one of those tight workout shirts (so almost bathing suit like) to the park and then get in all the wet-rides you can, then change for the rest of the day. Stow away soaked clothes in a locker. Using that strategy one day, we had a lot of fun on our 6th time in line at KRR, drenched from head to toe like we'd jumped in a lake, and telling the newbies around us that's how wet you get on the ride. Their eyes about popped out of their heads and they started to leave the line till we told them just kidding, it was our 6th go round. :P.

Poncho.
I love Splash Mountain but I really hate being wet.
When I get a few sprinkles its fine but you never know if that's what you're going to end up with.
If I go during a time of year that does not generally rain much I'll just bring a couple of throw away ponchos but if its during the summer I bring my Disney poncho for daily rain so I use it for Splash Mountain as well.
In February I'll just take cheap ones.

There is no foolproof strategy to not get wet. It can vary based in the weights of your boat companions and where they are sitting.

Our group seems to be very unlucky, we get drenched on it every time. I mean every time, soaking through top and bottom.

Splash is my favorite and I love it, but I really hate being wet, so I wear a poncho on top and then where I put my legs through it for the bottom. I look ridiculous, but I am dry.
