Strategies for moving to 2nd room & reservation at same resort?

To save on points, we often used to rent a studio for a few days and then move to a 1 BR. We’ve been told that we can’t check into our second room (and potentially have our new room assigned) until we check out of the first room. So we’ve had to pack everything up, ready to check out. Occasionally, we checked out and found that our 2nd room was ready to move into. It is a lot easier to just haul stuff to the 2nd room rather than packing everything (we were able to do this many years ago). For many of our recent visits, we have just stuck with a studio cause it is too much trouble to worry about a move. I’m not sure I understand why we can’t check into our 2nd separate reservation. I’d appreciate any suggestions or tips for moving day.

The check out time is 11 am and the check in time is after 4 pm. So, the room you are moving to needs to be cleaned and the one you are in needs to be cleaned,

Many DVC owners do split stays so we deal with it all the time. You can certainly check in any time, but having the room ready can’t happen until it is actually ready for you.

Thanks for your input. We understand the check in and check out parameters, we’ve been DVC members since 2000. Perhaps we have had uninformed cast members recently when we were told we could not check in with our new reservation (we have tried online check in too) until we checked out of our first room. We’ve had all of our luggage brought to the lobby by Bell Services (thanks Al! Is he back at BWV?) only to turn around and request it go up to our next room in a matter of minutes. Next time, we’ll insist on checking in for our 2nd reservation and say other people do it all the time. To be honest, we wouldn’t expect the 2nd room to be ready, but we have been surprised.

You could just move your stuff to the corridor or onto a cart (if you can borrow one) and then check out. If your new room is ready, you just push the cart to the new room. If it isn't ready, you push it to Bell Services.

On my last stay at VGF, I moved from a studio to a 1 BR. Had to have Bell Services pick up and hold my luggage, then call for it when room was ready. Unfortunately, I agree with the PP who said that these days rooms don't seem to be available early. I remember one year, a long time ago, when I checked with the front desk at 9:45 am, and my new room was readying near my present room, so I just threw stuff together and moved it down the hall. Not so any more!

You can do online check in for both before going. However, the CM is correct that until you are officially checked out of one room, they can not officially check you in to the next to give you a room.

As I said, I do split stays all the time and I go to the front desk to be sure they do it because when I get to resort 2, if they have not offically checked me out, it won’t let them even enter I am there to text when my room is ready.

Hum, for my trip in August it seems like there is no longer such a constraint across different resorts.
Just double checked, BCV and BLT all sent me room ready emails at 7:05 and 6:31 in the morning, so I definitely have not checked out of the previous resorts yet. (Still asleep ...)

Agree. Same thing for us at BCV this past June. "Room ready" text was received well before we were up and moving that morning.
