Any strategies for dealing with Alamo at MCO? I was thinking DH goes to pick up the car and I get the luggage. Last time the wait was nuts. Thanks. Deb

If you sign up for q u i c k s i l v e r (Alamo's free member club) you shouldn't have to wait, just go out to the lot and pick out your car! That's what we are planning!

When are you going? Post an update on how it went when you get back!

Edited to add: I'll be there Feb. 10-17, so I'll be there before you. I'll post an update when I get back.

I just wanted to mention that we picked up a car at Alamo last Monday (1/8/07) at 5:00 p.m. and there was nobody in line. I walked right up to the counter. I couldn't believe my luck. The clerk gave me the hard sell on upgrading the car and the insurance, which I politely declined and eventually we were on our way.

If you both want to be able to drive the car, you will both have to go to the counter. They have to see each person's driver's license and each person signs the rental agreement.

not if you're both on the master rental agreement that QS has onfile; along with your company's CC info...quick check-in @ kiosk.

You might still have to wait...there can be LONG lines to get out of the garage at peak times.

Alternate strategy for Alamo at MCO: Bring your rental agreement (and proof of insurance, if you're planning to refuse it) one counter to the left to L & M. Chances are, they will match the price.

If you have a discount, you can't always use q u i c k s i l v e r. Just go to the parking garage and on the second floor there's a glass booth for national and alamo. There are hardly any people in line.

It appears to me that Alamo now allows you to check in online and avoid the counter...has anyone tried this?

We did this online check in in Vegas. There are machines and computers there for all the info, plus to swipe your card. We had a coupon then too and also did prepay... which we aren't doing this time. Also this time we have $200 of Alamo money (like certificates) which we are using. Has anyone used these Alamo certificates? We get ours through our airmiles program here in Canada... first time using them. Basically it is $200 of alamo money which would be used as cash equivalent. My understanding is it is for a max of $200 on a vehicle rental. Thanks for all the help. Deb

We used the on-line check in. We gathered our luggage on a cart, went out to the garage, picked out a vehicle, loaded up, and gave our credit card at the kiosk at the exit from the garage. It went really smooth for us.

We did not, however, have any Alamo money, which may require you to use the counter (Is there any "small type" on it?). Why not call the Orlando location directly to find out? Here's the office location from the Alamo website:

Orlando Intl Arpt (MCOT71)

There was a long line when we picked up on 1-10-07 in the morning. They do have the online machines where you can check in and be on your way a lot quicker than waiting in line. We just gave them our coupon at the gate when we were leaving. Using the computers was a bit easier, but just make sure you read each screen carefully so that you select the correct option.
