Strangest thing youve purchased on holiday...

It reminds me of the time I forgot which case I had packed the sat nav in, and during the course of my rummagings DWs underwear was laid out on display in MCO car park. Not something she was too chuffed about, and had the potential to ruin the start of the holiday :rolleyes1

:lmao: So THAT's why our mothers always told us to have clean underwear  Fortunately I was already in snickering mode because it took quite a few items passing by before I realised there were too many familiar items for it to be a concidence. There were one or two other items of clothing there too, but they sort of didnt' get noticed and claiming those off the carousel would make it obvious that the others belonged to me too! I was really annoyed about the luggage though.

The weirdest thing my DH bought was a raccoon hat at the Canada Pavilion. He loves this furry thing. He used to wear it IN PUBLIC :rolleyes1 In fact once, when we still lived in London he had a conversation with Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet who loved the hat and wanted to know where he got it from.

So if you ever see Tony Hadley performing with a racoon hat on, you'll know he got it at WDW at Phil's recommendation :rotfl:

Loved reading this thread. I used to live in the UK and, whenever I came over to the states, I'd stock up on Levi's and trainers, for me and just about everyone I knew.

When I moved to the states, whenever I go back to the UK, I stock up on Cadbury's, especially Dairy Milk Turkish. Last time, I came back with half a suitcase stuffed full of chocolates, Jaffa Cakes, Victoria sponge mix, etc., and had to put all my smalls in a sports bag.

Definitely worth it!

It's funny how you "like" some things just because you can't have them. When I didn't live in the UK (for about 10 years or so) I also used to by Jaffa Cakes. Digestive biscuits were another thing. Honestly, you would have to do a lot of persuading to get me to actually eat them, but somehow, that forbidden fruit ;)

Not so much strange but certainly bulky Nathan has in the past bought full motorcycle leathers and a nitro 4x4 monster truck kit :teeth:

we bought our grandaughter,a bicycle with stabilizers, from walmart.can't remember how much it cost, but it was ridiculously cheap.thats when you got a fantastic baggage allowance with us airways.those were the days:)

How did you get that in your bag?!!!

Ah I love buying weird stuff. Not just on holiday, either. Today I bought a load of stuff from my local tourist information centre..

The latest strange thing I got on holiday was a fez in Turkey last week. :teeth:

What kind of stuff?

I found these "head scratchers" on Ebay last weekend. I thought I would get one for the heck of it. Then a saw they had 3 for 2 so I got 3 :confused3 :lmao:

I haven't laughed so much in ages. First at Bazzanoid's teeth which I also thought he'd left behind and then at 2Tiggie's undies going round on the carousel! :rotfl:

it was easy:)
it was all boxed up,so straight in the boot of the car, where it stayed, then straight out of the boot & checked in.
think we got 2 pieces of luggage each & each piece couldn't weigh more than 32kgs,so 64kgs luggage allowance each.this was with us airways in about 03 or 04.
thats when you really could shop, without the worry of baggage allowance:)

Oh my days, I thought the teeth had been left behind too. I had a similar underwear experience when they checked my case in front of everyone just after September 11th, I was so relieved I buy all new to go !!! I've not bought anything really strange, but Ian has bought back hammers, screwdriver bits, torches!! Last year he bought a huge cool box for $10 from Walmart, I mocked at the time, but it was incredibly useful at his birthday bash and Glastonbury.

I also bought a racoon hat from Epcot, but I call it a Davy Crockett hat because I had one years ago and I remember the King of the Wild Frontier :) I also have an umbrella hat which I havent used and a suitcase of the usual maps, guides and Mickey ears ...oh and a few of the Virgin packs with the bright coloured socks etc in :rolleyes1 Is there a hoarders anonymous ??

Oh my, that has just reminded me, I saw a woman in Epcot wandering around with an umbrella hat on her head, I found it hilarious and thought I'd been transported to Blackpool :rotfl2:

I thought of something else I've bought ... why it seemed a good idea at the time is anyones guess. Recycled notepad made from elephant poo, thats what it says on the packaging - which is still intact might I add.

Once when we were in Orlando, we bought a pump action washing up liquid for the hotel room to wash up the glasses we had in there. We decided to throw it in our soap bag and take it home (I have no idea why!) and when my granda saw it he thought it was great, and used it all up, then kept refilling it. It looked stupid after years of recycled use and the label all peeled off, but he loved it. I couldn't bring myself to throw it away when he died, so we still have a garish green empty washing up bottle. I would say that's the strangest thing that we've brought home. :)

My husband bought an Ovation guitar and a flight case to bring it home in one year (he put it in the hold as his 2nd piece of luggage). I brought home a $1 chip from every casino on the Las Vegas strip when we were last there. I framed them all and they are now on display on the wall. On a previous trip I brought back a gambling cup from each casino which you now can't get. We use them now for parties to put crisps and nuts in!!

I bought a guitar with a marijuana leaf on it as I was in the netherlands. As I landed at my country I had to do a customs check. It turned out that the marijuana leaf was a real marijuana leaf.. :rolleyes1
