Strange Water Park Tip

Go to the water parks on a rainy day! For whatever reason everyone seems to leave as soon as it starts to sprinkle... you're already wet, why not stay? lol Every single thing was a walk on, including the shark reef. The slides closed for about 20 minutes at one point due to lightning, but everything was moving again quickly once it had moved far enough away.

Good tip as long as there's no lightning,I've been stuck in the TL gift shop for 2+ hours waiting for the weather to improve and the lightning to leave the area and it didn't,but if it's just rain, that could be a good day.

We used to go in the late afternoon on our arrival day (we generally traveled in August). Once the daily monsoon hit, 90% of the guests would leave and we had a couple of hours of virtually deserted park to enjoy (of course we've been stuck under a roof as well, but we usually grabbed late lunch/early dinner while we waited)

Rainy days are the best at a water park. The first time we went to BB there was a steady rain all day and the place was empty. We figured we would be wet anyway and it was still 90 degrees, so what did it matter? As long as no thunder and lightning, everything stays open as usual.

Good tip! I would do a water park in the rain. Do you keep your belongings in a locker so everything stays dry?

We love a warm, rainy day at the water parks! The cloud cover protects us a tiny bit more from the UV rays, but we still wear our potent sunscreen and reapply :)

We keep our things in lockers even on dry days. We go back to the locker if we need anything and usually it is so hot you don't need your towel to dry off!

We kept our stuff in lockers, we would have done that anyways, though. I don't like having to keep track of stuff, I'd rather just lock it up lol

Good point about not having to keep track of our stuff - we've actually never done a water park before. Thinking about it for our next trip as a break day from the parks.

We did both parks in one day, and they are both really cool! Blizzard Beach is pretty much a Christmas themed park, they play Christmas music some and it even SMELLS like Christmas :) Typhoon Lagoon is super tropical and the wave pool is awesome! You can go to both in one day and only use one water park ticket, and if you get a locker at one, they give you a receipt to get another at the next park free, as long as its the same day. It was refreshing after 5 days in the parks :)

Thanks for all the great tips! I had no idea that Blizzard Beach is Christmas themed - how fun! Would not have guessed that one admission gets you in both parks. Now I'm definitely going to schedule a water park day!

Well, it's more winter themed than Christmas themed because it's supposed to look like a ski resort. I don't recall there being anything Christmassy other than music.

Rainy days are better at the parks as well. It's amazing how many humans run away from the parks with just a little rain.

Definitely! I knew to expect rain in August, took a fold away rain coat and just got on with it. I'm British. If rain stopped play, I'd never get anything done!

Haha I guess it is really just winter themed, but here in south Texas we don't get snow or anything so anything wintery like that is Christmasy to me lol. But it definitely did smell like Christmas :)

Definitely! We lived in a poncho for several of our days and managed to get a ton done. I was kind of amused by everyone IN the water saying that they needed to hurry and leave before it started raining... You're already wet, enjoy the low crowds! lol

When we were there a few weeks ago, our day at TL started out really cloudy and we got there at open and within 30 min there was a pretty steady rain that kept up for almost an hour. There was no lightning though and the park was practically empty. We went on everything many times and had no wait. By the time noon rolled around it was sunny and then by 2pm you couldn't even move in the park and the lines were crazy. That's when we left. We spent the last few hours in the wave pool but the rain worked out great!

You may want to double-check on that. I thought the water park tickets were per admission, not per day.

Edit: See the next post by Bumbershoot for the clarification. :) I've always had Water Parks and More tickets, so that it what I remembered.

You can go to both in one day and only use one water park ticket

This is going to depend on what sort of admission you have.

If you buy separate waterpark tickets (at $58 plus tax for one day), the WDW site does indicate that you can go back and forth; that those tickets are "hoppers", so to speak.

But if you have the "water park and more" add-on ($64 plus tax) to a themepark ticket, those don't work the same way. With the WP&M option you get x number of admissions (equal to the number of themepark days on your ticket, except for a 1 day themepark ticket which would allow two WP&M admissions), and if you go from TL to BB in one day you're using 2 separate admissions.

I agree! It rained while we were at BB most of the day. The park emptied out and there wasn't much of a wait for anything except downhill double dipper. I thought it was great! We didn't have to walk on hot concrete and it was nice to walk on most of the slides. I don't think we would've stayed until close if it would have been hot that day. Everyone would have been tired of the sun and ready to go. A rainy day won't stop me from hitting the water parks :)
