Strange things guests say

Overheard at EPCOT back in the day of flamingos: "Are those ostriches?" "Yeah, yep. They are!"

This reminded me of something in AK.

The hippos were in the water, and someone was looking down on them and commenting for their kids.

"Look at the Manatees kids! They get hit by propellors all the time, and are endagered now so these people rescue them!"

A CM said, in a VERY low voice (kids had wandered off a few feet) "Uh, sir, those are hippos." He turned bright red, but the CM (and me) just smiled.

I mean, from the top they DO look SLIGHTLY like Manatees, but there were signs up if I remember correctly, and everyone was mentioning Hippos in a loud voice...

Oh, I remembered another funny one. One of the times I watched Captain EO on my last trip (I saw it 4 times), there was an older couple behind me that kept saying to each other the whole time "this isn't Honey I Shrunk the Audience," and not saying it just in the sense that it was different or that they liked one or the other better- apparently they went in expecting the movie to still be HISTA, because they seemed really confused by the fact that it wasn't. Um, were all the signs and posters, Captain EO merchandise right by the theatre, different pre-show, patches on that area's CM costumes that say Captain EO, and the spiel given by the CM before the show starts not enough indication that just maybe it isn't HISTA anymore? Just saying.

DH and I like to say things innocently to each other that are likely to be picked up by the adjacent stranger's video camer during parades and such. Our favorite is to say something totally wrong...like when a Lilo and Stitch float come by we'll shout "Hey, there's STOOTCH!" Or we'll ask aloud "where's the Harry Potter float?'

Yeah, not unlike anywhere else in the world. When finding I'm from the US, I've had people ask me if I was from LA or NYC. I usually say, yeah, somewhere around there.

This thread has entertained me today. I have heard many stories but I will have to take notes and report back.

When my family was in WDW when I was 4, my 11 year old sister was waiting for me to come out of the bathroom stall. There was some very long protracted peeing sounds coming out of the stall, so she said in a loud voice, "MY GOODNESS! When was the last time you did your pee???" Anyway, I wasn't in that stall and I think she may have died slightly when the woman came out, glaring at her.

On the trip when I was 10, my grandfather (in his 70s at the time) was lining up with us for the Space Mountain. He didn't intend to ride, but a CM came over to us and very concerned asked him if he thought it was wise to ride, given his age. He got totally PO'ed at someone assuming that he couldn't ride a ride because he was old, so he rode it, and screamed like a maniac the whole way and was totally traumatized. (BTW he lived to be 94!) He listened to the CMs after that!

I would think that if he lived to be 94 he pretty much new what he was doing.

I have been asked that question a number of times and I am only 63. I doesn't even cross my mind that there is something that I shouldn't be riding. I have been lucky that I don't have any back problems or heart issues, so there is no reason that I cannot ride whatever I want. And I do! Age has absolutely nothing to do with it.

While in the cue line, there was a Brazilian tour group chanting (it was July) disrupting other guests experience. On the other side of one the walls in the cue area, a college age sounding guy screams "Go back to Europe!". I was mortified and his buddies on the other side of the wall gave him no end of crap. At least his buddies were taking care of their loudmouth friend. (I wonder where this guy graduated as my kids 10 and 8 at the time made comments about Brazil not being in Europe)

I overheard someone at EE say "So Everest is in Africa right?" Maybe they thought it had something to do with the african theming in some areas of the park, i'm not really sure...

Outside the parks someone once asked me if Humble was a fruit. You know, since you can get humble pie - she wondered what store to get it from.

Some of these comments, I wonder how someone pays thousands of dollars for a vacation and then knows nothing about it when they go?
I am the resident Disney expert at work. I am trying to help some co workers out with planning, but they really don't seem that interested. I am not going to push it. If they want help, they will come to me. I just feel sorry for their kids who will go and not get to do as much because Mom and Dad didn't plan. The parents are too stressed out that they aren't getting their moneys worth. So sad.

Once at DHS I heard a man refer to an attraction as "The Planes, Trains and Automobile Show". Not doubt he meant Lights, Motors, Action.

We were watching Captain EO, and behind us was a little girl (5 or 6 maybe) with probably her dad.

Girl: "Is that a boy or a girl?"
Dad: "It's a boy, hunny."

A few minutes go by.

Girl: "But is it supposed to be a boy or a girl?"
Dad: "It's supposed to be a boy, hunny."



I guess that's not too strange, I just thought it was funny (because as a parent, you are inevitably going to get questions like that from kids...).

This came from my own family.
We were walking back from our princess breakfast in Epcot and as we walked through Mexico there was a big sign that said Margaritas. My 5 year old niece sees the sign and yells out, "I love Margaritas!!" We got a few looks and giggles and someone made a comment that we start them young in our family.

There is restaurant near her house called Margaritas that she loves and she thought it was the same one.

Our first trip to WDW which was 3 and a half years ago my DS who was 4 at the time, had to go to the bathroom. My husband took him to the bathroom in Pecos Bills. After coming out my husband and our friends who were in the bathroom came out laughing. After my son stood up the toilet flushed automatically. He then asked my husband "is everything here magical?"

We still laugh about it today!

I thought I knew what to expect my first time on ToT. I'd read about it, watched it on TV shows, etc. Stars, swirl, door opens, then the drop. But when I actually rode it for the first time, the doors never opened. It just dropped and it scared the %&$@ out of me! I ended up grabbing hold of the poor teenage boy sitting next to me - no idea who he was, just grabbed onto him. Then I was so embarassed I kept apologizing.

And I have NO idea how the thumbs down icon got at the top of my post. I can't get it to go away!

From the first 15 pages, these all made me LOL. Thanks!.

Not strange but cute....DS (17) and I were finishing up a day at Epcot and on our way out of Illuminations, I stopped to visit the restroom. While I was in there waiting this adorable little girl (about 3) in full princess regalia was dancing around shouting out, "Hey mommy! This was the BEST.DAY.EVER!! BEST.DAY.EVER!!"

Her poor mom was clearly exhausted and was just responding with a lackluster, "Sure, baby. Yep. Sure baby."

So, the little girl kinda tugged on her mom's hand and said, "NO! Listen to me...this.was.the.BEST.DAY.EVER!!!"

I couldn't help giggling and agreeing with her.

When I came out of the restroom I shared the story with DS, and he grabbed me in a great big bear hug and said, "You know what mommy??? It really was the BEST.DAY.EVER!!"

I love Disney magic...and we have a new mantra in life.

OK, this one really got to me. I've got tears in my eyes.

My husband and I just got back last week. We heard quite a few funny comments but one stuck out in particular. We were walking from the bus stop towards the entrance of Magic Kingdom and were just turning the corner under the monorail. A woman behind us was asking a bunch of questions to another person, I'm not sure if this person was with her or not. She asked "How do you get to the Magic Kingdom?"...I could barely hold myself from laughing.

On the boat From WL to the MK a woman was talking to her (adult) daughter about there plans for their trip. She said "we'll take the bus from MK to Epcot".... I stepped in and said that there was no bus from any park to any park.... She corrected me saying "no no no,WE bought the special park hopper pass that allows us to go FROM one park TO another on Disney transportaion....."

That's not true is it? MK to Epcot would be quicker using the monorail, but I was pretty sure that buses run between parks. Correct me if I'm wrong, I always bring my own car so I've never attempted to use the buses, but it doesn't make sense that there wouldn't be transportation available between parks.

Maybe not from MK to Epcot, as you can take the monorail for that, but I know that there are busses between Epcot and AK for example.
