Strange Strange Cat...anyone else?

1 of our 2 cats acts like we are all her babies and she is our mama kitty. She does rounds at night and will sit up by your head and lick your hair, essentially grooming us. She purrs while she does this. When 1 of my kids is upset & crying over something, she comes running over to them, sits on their lap or right next to them, and starts meowing at them and purring to calm them down.

Then late at night, sometimes she seems to forget where we all are and she will cry out this scared sounding meow that sort of says, "Where did everybody GO?! WHERE ARE MY BABIES?!" If you call out her name, she will come running, lay down next to you in bed, lick you a lot, and meow at you to kind of scold you for freaking her out like that. It's really hilarious.

The other cat, by comparison, only pays attention to me if I'm eating cereal and she wants to lick the bowl when I'm done. The rest of the time, she ignores all of us females in the house. She comes out of hiding when the kids are in bed and DH is home...then she only goes to him for love and attention.

** Edited to add ***
There is nothing that will wake me out a sound sleep faster than feeling a rough cat tongue licking my forehead. Ick! The mama kitty licks us all the time, kind of like a dog does.

My cat would run into the kitchen to be fed whenever he heard the can opener...what's odd about that you say?

I NEVER used the can opener for his food cans!!!! I used the pull top cans! The only thing I can figure is that he must have been conditioned when he was a young kitten. He'd cry for whatever was in the can I had just opened soooo...here ya go have a green pea...well, foo on me cause he ate the pea and wanted more! :confused3

My daughters cat likes the little ball toys that make noise... My DH and I have stairs in our bedroom. In the middle of the night she likes to drop the ball down the stairs... Hear it bouncing off every stair... When it gets to the bottom she picks it up brings it to the top of the stairs to do it all over again....My husband tends to hide those toys!

Polly was rather unique.

She was a ventriloquist at times. She'd meow, and I would walk to where I thought she was, but she'd be somewhere else in the house.

She also chased her tail sometimes, like a dog, but usually it was so she could clean it.

Her favorite toy was the small mouses. On occasion, I would throw it and she would run to where she thought it was, and it was where it wasn't.

Ours is a rough houser. He will do running tackles in the dark when you go to the bathroom at 3am. He also love to sit atop the fridge & whack anyone who walks by in the head. When you look up at him he is like "WHAT?"

Too funny! How could I forget about stairs? We used to have two little sensor lights on ours, near the top and bottom, so nobody would trip at night...until we got the kittens, that is. They figured out how it worked and were fascinated - nothing like a kitty light show at 2:00am!

My now-deceased Maine Coon used to do that with a tennis ball, but in reverse. She would try to take it upstairs so that she could take it to sleep with her. She would hook the claws of one front paw in the fuzz of the ball, and start to drag it up the stairs. The technique worked only about one try out of 10: she would lose her grip on the ball and it would bounce back down to the bottom, whereupon she would go back down and start the process over again. It was the funniest thing, because the sound was unique: thump ... thump ... thump ... thump... thumpthumpthumpthumpthump ....thump .... thump .... thump ... thump, and so on.
That same cat also liked milk as a treat, and by some fluke, seemed to learn to ask for it by name. When she was looking for milk, she used this odd meow that actually sounded like ..."mi-i-i-lk".

My current older cat is obsessed with my hair. He isn't happy unless my hair has been properly scented by him, presumably so that other cats will know that I'm his. As soon as I've washed and dried it, he will try everything to get close enough to rub his face on it. I keep my hairbrush standing up in a bin on the back of the toilet, and you guessed it, that hairbrush is his Precious.

As part of a three-cat family, I think saying "strange" and "cat" is pretty much repeating yourself! :)

Our cat is crazy. He only likes us, the kids can drag him anywhere. But he hates anyone/anything else. If the dog gets a little to rough and you say ow he will attack.
He does his rounds at night to make sure all the kids are in bed. If the kids leave a light on he will sleep with one of them. If not he will sleep in the bathroom because I leave that light on at night. He is terrified of the dark. If I turn out all the lights in the house he freaks out.

I forgot to mention our now-gone kitty. He loved plastic bags and would lick them obsessively. We could not leave a bag in our bedroom because he'd wake us up licking it over and over. It wasn't any particular kind of bag - he liked them all: Walmart, Target, Publix, Dillards. He also begged for milk, but he didn't like it out of a saucer, he would only drink it from your cupped hand. Yes, my husband started that.

I have 4 cats, and I thought... no, my cats don't do anything strange... then I started reading this thread.....hmmm... I guess it's ME... I AM the crazy cat lady!!!

One of my Ragdolls comes into the bathroom whenever I am in there to "talk" to me... he loves to lay on the top of the fridge to be the master of the land... (and he is huge!) His brother, who is much smaller and a real baby.... drops onto his back and "gives up" whenever anyone goes near him... If that cat ever got out of the house, I give his survival at about a -1,000.

I have an orange tabby girl who runs the house - she loves to lick plastic bags too.... I didn't realize other people had cats who did that.... I thought she was just weird... I mean, that is weird, but...

We have another cat in our family of sorts. My sister rescued this what appeared to be main coon kitten and rescued him back to health. He is literally scared of no one! He is obsessed with going outside too. He's just silly and full of cuteness with his new family (her coworker). His human is the little girl of the family. He will sit by her head when she is sick, hang out in the dog crate with her, and just be so darn cute.
