Hi!

We are planning our yearly trip to the World and it will be a little different this time.

We are flying instead of driving so we are questioning the need for a rental car. To make it even more difficult on us we are spending the first two days at Disney Vero. We are totally shocked that Disney doesn't have transportation back and forth from the World to the Beach.

We thought about renting a car just for the two days in Vero, but we will end up loosing a full day in returning the car and jumping on the Magical Express. Or we can rent a car for the full week and just let it sit while we are in Orlando.

I can't believe how expensive rental cars are :(

What would you all do? Any suggestions and advise would be wonderful!

Thanks!
Susan

We are heading to VB and then over to BWV in early Sept. We are flying into WPalm Beach, renting a car, driving to VB, and then 4 days later, driving to MCO where we will return the car and take DME to BWV.
How will you lose a full day??? It should take less than 2 hrs to get to MCO from VB, then return the car..about 15 mins... and then hop on the bus...could be up to 30 mins here, and the drive to your resort..up to 40 mins depending on which stop you are.
If you leave VB first thing in the morning, you can be at MCO by 9am!!! And be at WDW by 10:30...latest. That's what we are doing.

Of course, I am still looking for a better deal than the $235 for Sept 1-4 rate I have. That hurts. If I could get a decent rate with either Alamo or National, I would return at the Dolphin!!!!

You really think we can do it all in that time frame. I figured the two hours up, 30 minutes to return the car, at least an hour for the DME and then at another hour or so to get to The Wilderness Villas.

Thanks! You made me feel much better :)

Another option is to rent the car for VB and then return it when you check in to your WDW resort.

National and Alamo have return options (Car Care Center near MK & Dolphin). They will take you back to your resort after you drop off the car. There are also other car rental agencies that have drop off desks at the Downtown Disney resorts.

We're leaving VB around 7am....planning on returning the car by 9 and then being at DME checkin for about 9:30...latest. Bus line should be under 20 mins, ride to resort should be about 30 mins....not any longer than that. We figure that it takes an average of 70 mins to get from gate to resort. Since most of the car rental areas are right across the street, you should have no issues getting to the DME area quickly. You should be having lunch at WDW, no problem.

Or, you can rent through Alamo/National, and drive directly to WL...drop off your bags and such. Then, drive over to the Car Care Center (short drive from WL) and they will shuttle you back to WL. As long as you let them know what you need about 24 hrs in advance.

I don't see how you figure DME would take 2 hours. :confused3 When getting off a plane, the average time to the resort is 70-90 minutes.

Lets even say it takes you two hours... so two hours from Vero, 30 minutes to return the car (should be less than that IMO), and two hours to Disney is still only four 1/2 hours. Well short of the "full day" you say you'll lose in the OP.

I agree with goofy. Leave at 7am, and you're eating lunch at Disney. Go straight to Disney instead of MCO and you can catch brunch. :thumbsup2

we do this every year :) and have found it more relaxing and cheaper to fly into Orlando drive the 2 hours to Vero and then straight to our resort keeping the car the whole week.. not only do we save money renting for a week (mco has cheaper rentals) vs a few days or paying the up charge for a different drop off, but we've found that driving to most parks or other resorts to dine is much faster then the buses system. I can usually get a 7 day rental for under $150 a week or so prior to leaving. Spending more time doing the fun things is so much better then stressing having to rent, drop off, DME etc..

Have a wonderful trip :hippie:

Do you mean the line to get on a bus will take an hour, and then it's an hour once the bus ride starts? I suppose that *could* happen if you were incredibly unlucky, but I don't think it's what they want to have happen.

Look at the threads here on the transportation forum of rental cars in certain months, and get ideas of what codes might be out there. flyertalk.com has a HUGE thread about codes and coupons.

First off I wanted to mention the reason the rental price is so hight is because you are looking too soon. THe closer you get to your trip the cheaper the price will be. Just read the Jan 2013 car rental thread. When they started that thread many months ago folks were compaining about how expensive the rentals were but as their trip got closer the price really droped.

I would rent a car a MCO and turn it in at WDW.

Alamo is onsite
Avis is at the Hilton across the street from DTD
Dollar is at the Wyndham across the street fro DTD.

Gosh if Disney were to offer transportation to Vero I would hate to see what they would charge since the charge for them to take you to the port is $80 rt!!!! and Vero is a further drive.
