Strange call about Disney Timeshares

"but wouldn't you just love to take a vacation to an exciting place with us?" And then I hung up on her. :)

sure if it's on their dime LOL - dh works for hilton (ya i know Paris yuck) if they want to give us all expenses paid trip we'll take it. not my fault you're offering it to people who have no intention of buying something from them.

LOL

I always ask unsolicitated callers if they can PLEASE HOLD :thumbsup2 for a minute....I then set down the phone and walk away. I usually come back in about 30 minutes or so and to my amazement....the line is dead! Go Figure!!!! I see it this way...if they think it's OK to waste my time, then it's OK for me to waste theirs! :lmao:

This is really good and smart, It will get your name removed off of their list faster than the "do not call list", the reason being is they look for easy and fast turn arounds, you tie up their phone lines and they start to lose money on you, if I have time and am feeling mischievious I will go along with them until it is time to close the deal and then decline, keep them on the phone as long as possible and they loose money.

just tell him to leave his home phone number and when it is convenient for you, you will call him. ;)

I have a friend who says shes going to get whomever they ask for. Puts the phone down and walks away..... Half an hour later or whenever she remembers she picks it up to see if they are still there. One guy did wait!:happytv: Generally they give up, but she figures it they waste 5 minutes it's one less person they harrassed!

(Of course she also mails the prepaid envelopes back to the credit card companies empty so they have to pay the postage!)

LOVE IT!

As for the OP, yes, you did the right thing. I don't think it was anything "dangerous" but rather, as others have said, just a mortgage type broker asking to take "your useless timeshare off your hands for you..."

That's what I do to sales calls at work. At home I probably only answer about 1 in 10 calls. Caller ID, best thing I ever paid for.

Since this thread was started I never heard about getting calls to sell, but guess what, we recieved a call today about selling our timeshare, but it was a pre-recorded message. So I hung up, go figure.

I used to get mailings every month, and a phone call here and there from this one timeshare company.

Finally I called their toll free number and said... First I am NOT selling my Disney Time share and IF I did sell it I would use The Timeshare Store, but I am NOT selling... and to please stop sending me the mailings..

Never got another one.

For the most part, I dont answer the phone, but if I do, I just say no thanks please dont call again.

To discourage telemarketers, my brother used to just hand the phone to his 2 yr old and let HER chatter at them...pretty much the same as just walking away but more entertaining! :)

My sister did that! Her DH goes by his middle name, but their son has the same 1st name and goes by that...so when they ask for Michael they get Michael. That doesn't work as well now since Mike is about 10. He might actually buy it now, but as a 2 year old, priceless!

Our numbers are on the "do not call list". I love to string folks like that along. I ask all kinds of questions about the business, where it's located etc, etc. Then I ask if they have ever heard of the national "do not call list". They always say they have, and then I inform them that it is not legal to call someone on that list unless they have done business with them before, or they are a charitable organization or a political campaign. Since they are none of those, I thank them for the information about their business and then inform them that I will be calling the attorney general's office to report a violation of the do not call list. THEN...I follow through and do just that. Usually the office thanks me, and I'm sure nothing more comes of it, but it only takes one or two of those, and I NEVER get calls anymore!:rotfl:
Actually I am on the same do not call list and they do follow up complaints. It is a huge fine to these people who call in the thousands of dollars. It is in their best interest to collect these fines, so you did the right thing. I do the same, but when i get one who says they are not subject to this for some reason, I tell the what to go do in a not nice way. I don't take calls from anyone I don't know and i don't want to talk to them and I don't care what they think about their right to call me. I know the same ones won't ever call me again.
