We have a stove that you can take the middle burners off and there is a griddle burner that you can replace them with.

I don't know if I'd buy a stove that had a permanent griddle. It seems like it could be limiting.

I wound up with a brand new stove and she wound up with another oversized range! She is talking about getting a new stove; my brother has now officially put off buying a stove for 2 years. . .)

And now I'm sad b/c I grew up in a house with a very old gas stove that had a great griddle in the middle. Didn't know how great it was until we left that place... The griddle was the steel type that janey might be describing...nothing stuck to it, but like I said it was very old, so it's not like it was officially nonstick...

This is like what we just got. Middle burner has a grate. I ofeten make turkey or other roasts and then make gravy in th epan so I figured it would be great for that as well. I will keep griddle in the bottom storage I think most of the time, I wonder if the middle burner would work with a wok. I often make chinesse dishes.
