YUM! I picked up a package of Stouffers' Apples & Cranberries in a package that was labled "Holiday Collection". It was fairly large for a frozen item, and it was quite a bit like Cracker Barrel's baked apples. My husband particularly loved them. They were sliced apples (and cranberries) in a sugar-y sauce.

I was back at the grocery store today, and they were no longer available.

But on to my question . . . does anyone know how to make a homemade version of this item? I'd love to be able to make up a bunch and freeze them for quick side dishes.

Where is this located in the frozen section at Walmart?

In ours its near all the other Stouffer's stuff. And they group the larger packages (family size) together.

But it is easy to make. Just follow any old apple crisp recipe and leave off the crisp topping and add cranberries. You might have to add more sugar to offset the tartness of the cranberries. I'd keep the crisp topping though. Makes it even better!

I would think you could even do it in the microwave. Apples really cook nicely and easily. Peel and slice some apples, toss them in cinnamon and sugar (or leave out the cinnamon) and add some cranberries. I've never microwaved fresh cranberries, so you might want to use cooked (fresh) cranberries or canned whole cranberries. Apples taste better in the oven, but the microwave is a quick alternative. You might want to add a little water to the bowl just in case. I would do 1 minute and then 30 seconds at a time after that until you know (for next time) what works best. You might not need the water. Not sure. I'm just thinking out loud here. I think I would like to try this though!
