Storytellers: Worth going for dinner?

We are going to be in DL in December. We are staying at HoJo but have heard on here there are some great holiday decorations at the Grand Californian hotel. Would it be worth making the trek over to Storytellers from the park for dinner? Is the food worth it?

Honestly I wouldnt choose Storytellers. We have ate there three times and most likely wont be doing it again for along time. We hope each time it will be better but it just hasnt seemed to get better. We prefer the other four character places rather than this one. Goofys has better characters and a large variety of food, ariels also has almost all the princesses and pretty good food.

OP there are NO characters at Storyteller's at dinner, it's "just" a sit down restaurant. That said, it's one of DBF and my favorites!! The food has been very good the times we've eaten there and we are always wanting to eat there. And remember, if you're in DCA it's not much of a trek at all, just exit thru the GCH exit go to Storyteller's for dinner and you can reenter thru the GCH entrance if you're done before DCA closes. The corn chowder is very very good....

Even if you don't eat there be sure to check out the "Great Hall" *lobby of the Grand CA ~ it's lovely. We spent 1 night at the GC earlier this month and I doubt we'll ever stay again but anyone can enjoy the Hall ~ during C~mas time I'm sure it's even lovelier.

I've always enjoyed our dinners at Storytellers. I understand that there is a new manager over there who has been working on developing their menu & buffet. My friend (whose wife works there) said that the quality of the food has really improved.

We just got back this Sunday from a trip to DL. We did not make any PS at Storytellers, even though we stayed at GCH. However, on our last night there, we were so tired, that we decided to eat there so we wouldn't have to walk very far to eat dinner. I have to say that it was probably one of our best meals of the trip. It could have been just the timing and the fact that we were tired and hungry, but it has now become one of our go-to restaurants for future trips. The bread was delicious!

I love eating @ Storyteller's! Every time I go there, unless I'm not that hungry, I always go for the buffet. There is a variety of food from pasta, meat, fish, veggies, etc. & the desserts are wonderful.
I also really like the ambiance & the service is always good.

Do they always have the buffet for dinner? We will be there November 18-23. We usually do the character breakfast but I think that we may do GK for dinner AND brunch instead. But we were thinking Brennan's for one of our early park closing dinners. But I know DD prefers buffet while DH prefers service.

Just nioticed the buffet menu id now on allears.net which I had not seen before. Can anyone tell me what is on the buffet besides the standard fare on allears? Like GK I know they show a limited amount of options

If you don't eat at Storytellers - at least go to the Grand Hall and see the GC Tree! It is epic!

We stayed at the GCH from Aug 30-Sept 2. On our last night, our younger DS got sick and fell asleep in the room around 5pm. DH decided to stay with him so he could sleep, so I took our older DS (5) to Storyteller's for an impromptu sit down dinner.

I had the buffet. It was DELICIOUS. And, a great deal at $26.99, to be honest.

The menu differed drastically from what Allears has posted. For example, there was no salmon or pork. There was turkey (really, really good roasted turkey) and sirloin steak roast. The BBQ chicken was not "standard". It was a chipotle rubbed chicken breast. There was no tortellini pasta. There was a penne pasta dish with a spinach alfredo sauce. The potatoes were not garlic mashed...they were parmesan roasted red potatoes (good!). The salad options were ceasar and mixed greens with cucumber and carrots. I had the mixed greens. The dressing was really good...reminded me of 'Ohanas. They also had fried chicken pot stickers. YUM! There were a few other things, but I can't remember it all. Veggie was some sort of squash stir fry. It was an excellent spread. For bread, you get sourdough and cornbread with honey butter. The desserts were the best! Same stuff they had up in the concierge lounge. Mini cheesecakes, lemon tarts, chocolate mousse cakes, and some AWESOME bread pudding with caramel and a warm vanilla sauce. Oh my gosh...that was the best! I will definitely return to Storyteller's for dinner!

On top of that, our service could not have been better. I ordered Mac and Cheese for my son, and honestly, it was at our table in under 3 minutes. Piping hot, fresh, and beautifully presented with some artfully sliced fruit (and NOT the same mac and cheese that was on the buffet...it was a TOTALLY different type of cheese sauce...more creamy and pale yellow as opposed to the "orange glow" stuff on the buffet). I also got him a chocolate milkshake and it was made with CHOCOLATE HAAGEN DAZS ice cream! That explains the $7.99 price tag....but oh my...it was SO good! Our waiter was always there when we needed him, and he even watched my son while I went to the buffet. Great place...

Did they put a tree up last year? I don't seem to remember it...

I remember a few years ago, there was a fire at the Grand because the TREE caught fire! I thought they stopped putting the tree in the lobby after that incident.

We visit the Grand OFTEN. My son has Autism and one of his fixations is the lobby of the GCH. Another one of his fixations is Christmas trees. I think I would have recalled the tree if it had been there the past couple years...

I second the AWESOME on that bread pudding! We just ate there last week and enjoyed it. We got the buffet, but there were some nice options on the menu too. It was pretty, and we enjoyed seeing the hotel. And it was very convenient from our visit to DCA to go in the entrance to GCH to the restaurant.

I prefer Goofy's buffet and the character interaction, but I did enjoy my visit to Storyteller's.

Wow, I didn't even know Storytellers HAD a dinner buffet! This will work out PERFECTLY for my Holiday trip!

Buffets seem like a good deal as you get such a variety of food. Soups, main courses, desserts, all for one price. But the price is not low and the quality is not great.

If you like lobster, order the lobster salad from the menu. It's a main course. Almost as expensive as the buffet, but a bit cheaper and MUCH better.
